At the risk of turning this into a flame war, may I ask why you feel one is ok and the other isn't? Or better yet, why do you feel it's ok to download music without paying?

Moral ambiguity is much more fun.

Nice generalization PC players all steal period.
You don't pirate movies or games so I guess you pirate music :P

all joking aside I believe the term Pirating has been used in the wrong context.  Pirating in general is stealing and selling illegally.
raise your hand if your selling what you DLed.

I've downloaded games in the past (mostly to test out something before I bought it.)  I'm not about to say its not wrong but almost every game that I have enjoyed I bought eventually.

I wouldn't flame you. I was concerned another might...

Actually, I was expecting you to say something about "recording companies making too much money" or something along those lines. I was going to comment about how much a regular music artist makes, but now that point is irrelevant.

Horray for evil!

I am a frequent gig-goer*, and many artists said, that they don't care where do people get their records as long as they are coming to their performances.

*Power Metal mostly tho', maybe other performers are greedy douchebags afterall (*cough*Gene Simmons*cough*).

That's good. All I know is the few I met, MetalCore or Death Metal bands, who aren't the Britney Spears-es of the world only end up making like $30-$50 grand a year. That's like barely enough to pay for the tour bus, food, and booze.

Not that they make much on the CD sales anyway. It makes more sense about the venue sales.

Is this actually a thread about whether something illegal is good or not?

While it is indeed a generalization, I daresay PC players have more of a valid complaint than any other software users. Some of the anti-piracy measures that come attached to PC games these days are so bad they sometimes prevent people who bought a game legally from playing what they paid for. I remember Ubisoft had software-protection on one of their games not long ago that required a constant internet connection to even run the game. That's ridiculous. I can easily see why someone would opt to download something illegally rather than have to put up with that garbage. I think anything more than a simple disc-check is overkill, and has the potential to screw over your paying customers. Because if there's one thing we've learned, its that copy-protection software will be hacked sooner or later, so attaching it to a game is just an exercise in futility on the part of game publishers.

Game piracy can often be explained like that.

1. You're a poor or greedy person.

2. You want to try a game and there's no demo available and the ****ing CGI trailer is not really a seller.

3. You're too young to pay for games on Steam and/or other online shops and pirate.

I did it of reasson 3 and since I turned 18 I have never pirated a game.

Hmm... I'm not against it as I'm not 100% for it. Like if you see something really expensive at a store and you know a place where people stream it, don't bother and go watch it online. But when it comes to gaming, I'd rather buy the games to encourage companies to sell more games.

So you're saying that you do not believe in gray shades? Your question is very general and only vaguely related to the topic so my response will be just as general and vaguely connected to the topic:

Sometimes what is right
becomes wrong and what is wrong becomes right. Sometimes someone had to
do something to prevent another worse thing. Is it wrong to kill a
killer? The law says that anyone who is blasphemic towards islam should
be executed. In comes Christian tourist and is blasphemic towards Islam
because she thinks it's fine. Before you know she is executed.

Do
i actually think something illegal is good? depends on what it is. I
just HATE to watch the law be unjust. Nothing worse than someone losing
their life and future on a technicality, aye? The legal system is broken
as **** in almost every country. Illegal!=bad, you should know that
unless you're twelve.

I just proved your post to be too unspecific.

Not when the thing in question in either legal or illegal, no.

Sometimes what is right
becomes wrong and what is wrong becomes right. Sometimes someone had to
do something to prevent another worse thing. Is it wrong to kill a
killer? The law says that anyone who is blasphemic towards islam should
be executed. In comes Christian tourist and is blasphemic towards Islam

We're talking about digital theft here. Not killing someone. Taking someone else's property without paying for it.

Not killing someone.

I repeat.

Not killing someone.

Do
i actually think something illegal is good? depends on what it is. I
just HATE to watch the law be unjust. Nothing worse than someone losing
their life and future on a technicality, aye?

A technicality is not a law.

Illegal!=bad, you should know that
unless you're twelve.

Funny. What happened to "gray areas"?

Sorry, but we're not discussing the merits of software piracy in this community. THank you.

End of line.
