The fine folks at Dark Horse Comics have teamed up with the io9.com website to give you a preview of isue one of Mass Effect Evolution. This comic is again written by Mass Effect 3's Lead Writer Mac Walters and is drawn by artist Omar Francia. The comic features some background on an important character from Mass Effect 2, The Illusive Man.

Check out the 2 covers to Issue #1 and the first 5 pages for your first look at Mass Effect Evolution. :)

I have a question: Is the one named Jack Harper TIM? It's really not easy to make out faces when they're drawn like that.

Read the last page..there's your answer..

Looks ok, but it is still only a comic. Book would be better.

Not just any turian either, that looks like Saren! He was the only one with the long side parts on his head fringe.          It could be Saren's brother though, the unique headfringe might be a family trait.

I don't know if it is just me, but are they understanding each other's languages?

Yep, looks like it.  I think the humans just happened to find a translator and perhaps its one of those made-for-idiots contraptions which is intuitive to use.  Regardless, thank you very much for the preview Chris!  I can't wait to read this in full!

I thought that aswell, but at the end it insinuates that the Turian was wearing some kind of communicator.

And Jack Harper, what an original name.

Most likely the turians compiled a quick and dirty translator update so they could deal with human captives or captured territories effectively, as well as make surrender demands (something we know they did to Ashley's grandfather).   Something like that has to have happened anyway, given the way events played out.  It would have been required for the Council to hammer out the truce, explain exactly what the hell that turian attack was all about, and offer humanity associate membership.  Since the First Contact War was so short to begin with (only 3 months), it just moves the timetable for that up a few weeks.

TIM shouldn't have an "original" name.  He was just, to all appearances and even in his own mind, a fairly average, if privileged, human before the Mars ruins and Charon relay were discovered, so he should have a fairly average name.  Having an "everyman" type of name is also a nice fit because it goes with his conceit that Cerberus (by which he of course means himself) "is humanity".  Besides, it's not "John Smith".

Awesome indeed. And I also thought that turian looked like Saren. Wonder if it really is him or his brother?

Why do comic book art always looks like theres a bomb going of in every frame these days?

It's beautiful! Really excited about this. =D In my opinion, the art style is infinitely better than in the last comic series. Awesome!

Hmmm, I'm torn, because I love the Illusive Man and he's one of my favorite characters in the series, but his mystery was part of his draw. I hope the comic still leaves the reader with a lot of questions about him.

I agree, and besides... he kinda DOES look like a Jack...
