I use a windows 7 computer and I figured it would be a candidate to run mass effect perfectly, especially with my new graphics cards installed.

I installed the disk without a hitch, and it was ready to play, but when I clicked the thumbnail, it would go to a screen that said it was checking my computer's graphics capabilities. Then it would say it has encountered a problem and completely shut down.
My copy of mass effect 2 runs swimmingly on this same computer, but for some reason ME1 doesnt.
This is exceedingly frustrating, and I would love any assistance you can give me.

I dont know if it is the version of mass effect I am playing or not. It's bright orange and had BBFO 12 on it, if that helps.

Until you provide us with your full system specs nobody can help you.

The version you are using is the EA value games version it shouldn't be an issue.

Its a windows 7 issue and i am having it too. There are several threads on here the bext one I have found talks about replacing some "dll" files in the game folder. let me know if you get this to work, I have been looking for hours.
