I completed Golems of Amgarrak on 'Normal' and the final boss whipped me good a few times. I must be insane, but I want to try defeating It on Hard or Nightmare. What kind of character should I use for this fight? I defeated the boss on Normal with a sword/shield/spirit warrior. Would that work for this fight? What kind of character did you use?

Lot's of folks have used different pc to do this. I tried many times on hard with my mage...who i thought was awesome!...errrr...not so much!!! I was finally able to do it on hard with a DW rogue STR build as in the second phase the DPS and defense against the skellies gave just enough time to finish off the Harvester while chugging potions...

Good luck!!!

It can be extremly useful to bring good gear for your two dwarf companions and respec book/potions to re assign their stats and skills.

Yeah, I thought of importing gear and manuals of focus once it was too late. I'll have to play Awakening again from the beginning, but oh well

Make sure to bring all the top gear from Awakening, a couple of extra manuals of focus, Paragon Stout runes for everyone's armor, and LOTS of potions.

The first time I tried it on Nightmare, I imported a level 30 Orlesian warden but didn't take any extra gear. It was simply an impossible fight

The next time, I equipped Brogan with the Sentinel armor (with three paragon stout runes), Vigilance (with three elmental runes), and re-specced him to make him a champion (while also dumping a lot of points in constitution). With Jerrik I gave him the Battledress, re-specced him as an archer (with the Accuracy talent) and gave him the Sorrows of Arlathan. Everything was MUCH easier, including the Harvester fight iself. It also helps to play it with a mage, preferably a Spirit Healr/Arcane Warrior/Battlemage.

I just beat this on nightmare with my lvl 35 dw rogue assassin/duelist/scout. Like everyone else I found that fighting it with only melee companions was impossible. So I respecced them both to archers and kept them near the switch along with the golem. Rapid shot + suppressing fire... As soon as any corpses appeared I focused the archers on them and slammed with golem. Only time i used the switch was for the orange harvested corpse. Warden was full of evasion and intensifying runes and with ghost and strength of stone didn't really loose hp in the battle. Items were: Vigilance & Heirsplitter, Corruption, ferret gloves, battledress, some boots from awakening and ofc the best rings available. Companions only needed their default gear really. And Jerrik was naked...

The archers really made this battle especially in the second part since they can constantly damage the harvester and don't loose time in drinking potions since they are too far away to be dealt any dmg.

Equipment as above is good. Bring an archer (or re-spec Jarrik, since tends to die in his vanilla version). Put the archer next to the switch and press it in the red Fade phase if you're getting swamped, That'll kill them off. Tank the Harvester with a close eye on the health meter and bring many potions. Avoid using the Runic Golem for anything except occasonali heling, since he doesn't last in the long run due to lack of healing options. Ignore the skeletons as much as possible, since the Harvester spawns them quicker than you can kill them.

I went into the fight on Hard with my lvl 34 Warrior with reasonably good gear. Made it on the third try after respecing Jerrik as above. You could also let Brogan do the tanking, I guess. A mage would have been nice.

Alright, I tried the Harvester in Nightmare for the first time last night. Sword and board warrior, decent kit out. Got the first phase boss creature down to about a 1/3rd health, then it spawned a freaking boss skeleton. Didn't last too long with both of those smacking me around. Couple of questions:

1- How many times can you use the switch? I didn't use it because I remembered the skeletons in the second boss phase being much tougher and there being more of them, so I was saving it. Fat lot of good that did.

2- Why the hell is the Varterral an achievement, taking that down on nightmare was a freaking cakewalk compared to this...

3- I guess I was being kinda ambitious trying to solo it on my first attempt (which is what I basically did on normal). How high are people's Dex values that consistently avoid getting hit by the skellies?

1 - all the way up to part two, then it vanishes.

2 - Different mod; different focus

3 - I mostly solo the last battle, as the party dies rather quickly.

Killing  the Harvester   also nets you an achievement.

I think the overall reason for both being acheivements is sort of an advertising gimmick for DA2, seeing as both  Varterrals and Harvesters are  going to be in that game.

Meh,  My dex was minimal... maybe in the low 20s?  However, My armor rating was stratospheric....  50 or so.  So I wasn't taking much damage from the skeletons.

On a sidenote, my experience, for both times I've played  the Golem's DLC is similar to Elhanan's.  That is to say, I learned pretty quickly to just save myself the headache and ignore my party members in the Harvester battle.  They simply die way too quick and concentrating on keeping them alive is such a chore, so basically I just solo that battle..  I also ignore the Harvester's minions in that fight.  I'll take them out with a Massacre or whatever  if they bunch up  around me or  get in my way, but otherwise... I just concentrate on the harvester.

You can't avoid getting hit by the boss skellies and you can't hit them either.  I had a rogue who invested every single point in Dex and all my gear had dex bonuses and its hopeless to fight the boss skellies.  Just ignore them.  Pop a swift salve once the Harvester's head detaches and chase him down.  You'll outrun the skellies who are chasing you.

Hmm, thanks for the advice. Yeah the party is a bit rubbish, thankfully I brought plenty of healing pots. Didn't realise that the killswitch was available all the time int he first phase and not at all in the second.
