I like the idea but it detracts somewhat to the urgency of the main mission in ME3.

However if Shepard/Laira had a genesis ark project going on in secret your ideas could be used to make an interesting DLC.

Wow...I'm impressed. If only more people had the patience and creativity to make more productive topics like this....

Anyways, I'd support an idea like this. Hope someone over at Bioware considers this, or at least something like it.

This would have been perfect for II and could have carried over to III. But devloping a startup colony at this point is pointless.

Maybe if it consisted of rescued civilians from earth? But unless all the homeworlds (not just Earth) are under attack it still is a stretch.

Yes, rescued civilians sounds a bit more appropriate, but what do homeworlds have to do with this? Are there not colonies spread out across the galaxy? Just make situations where colonies across the galaxy are in different dire situations due to the knowledge/reality of the Reaper threat (crime, slavers, etc).

This idea brought this ME trailer to mind, and I think it fits pretty well.

I haven't read the full thread yet so please don't whack me if I'm repeating someone else but I'm thinking we can add some mystery to the planet by after once factor X such as a special mission or a certain number of scientists are on the planet, the planet is found to be home to a Prothean research base which could have one or more of the following fun tidbits directly related to the planet itself.

-- Have the Planet be the only remaining site of countless civilizations that left data/artifacts/etc behind throughout all the extinction cycles possibly giving Shepard tactical advice on defeating the reapers
-- Have the planet be safe from the reaper invasion, ie somehow shielded/cloaked from reaper technology, but this would require Shepard/Colonists to find this planet by accident
-- Have the planet be artificially made either a massive project of the Protheans or a legacy of all the extinct races before them to either protect them from the reaper invasion or for use as a staging area to attack the reapers with some sort of tactical advantage
-- Have the planet be the last long lost remnants of the Reaper's society before they became Organic/Machine hybrids with a few sole survivors being in stasis deep within the core of the planet to be awoken with a certain condition needing to be met
-- Have the planet be a long forgotten Reaper burial ground
-- Have the planet be the location of the energy weapon used to incompacitate the reaper found near the end of ME2 but have it so the weapon would have to be repaired in a certain amount of time or have dire consequences such as the weapon is powered by an artifical black hole that would devour the solar system if not repaired properly

I've got a bit more floating about in my head but I'll collect my thoughts & post more after I've read all 11 pages of the thread instead of half of them.

-- Edit now that I've read through all 11 pages

I like the idea that was brought up to make it kind of like the Skies of Arcadia base, maybe have the Normandy's engines damaged in the escape from Earth which would throw them off course causing them to require an emergency landing on the planet for repairs.

Or possibly have the planet be Shepard's new home planet as DLC after the end of 3, or if there's a 4 any data imported from the first 3 would have impacts directly on the planet's growth/development and have the main character be either a spiritual sucsessor or even a direct decendent of Shepard

Gotta admit, this sounds pretty awesome. A nice little side base for you to expand and grow. Sadly, I doubt it would happen for the simple fact that you ALREADY have the Normandy as a "base".

Would I love to see this? Oh absolutely. But I doubt it would be included in the game. Maybe as a DLC somewhere down the road if we're lucky. But again, since we ALREADY have the Normandy, I don't think Bioware would take the development time to create a second, expanding base.

I personally like the idea- it could even just be a post-game option, tied in to helping some place rebuild and giving people the option of letting their Shepards having a future outside of being a soldier.

Very cool, obviously well thought out idea. Would love to see it as DLC for ME3. Or maybe it's the direction the ME franchise will be heading after ME3? More "rebuild the galaxy" type than "Save the Galaxy".

I am game for this. I would rather play this than any type of MMO type stuff. I want my Shepard and LI to have something to do after the end of the trilogy. I don't see any problem with BioWare using fan created things from their own fan forums. I can also do another so & so save the galaxy game that is not Shepard.

Interesting.

As everyone is basicly in war in ME3, safe places for refugees could be useful or some science research bases. Also I think Shepard could get clues to something very old and forgotten, like old technology what has forgotten between reapers cycles, like ancient technologies.

Holy crab, it has been half a year.

I still say if you want to do side missions to improve your environment, make a long side-quest secondary story about building an offensive space station!

It wouldn't murder the sense of urgency since it somehow connects to the main plot.

And it would be badass.

These are some really interesting ideas. My only concern is it doesn't seem like Shepard would have time to develop colonies in ME3. Something like this would have been great in ME2 given that you were suppose to be protecting Human Colonies in the Terminus Systems.

Thing about ME3 is the Reapers are attacking, so it doesn't really make sense to try and setup a colony as the Reapers will likely come and destroy it at some point. Perhaps they could be implemented more as refugee camps in this regard? That might work. Although I'm not sure how much inclination Pirates and Mercs are going to have about attacking colonies and settlements as well... the Reapers are kind of a big problem for everyone. I guess they might still try to plunder stuff, but it seems a little self-destructive as what good is money if there isn't a galaxy left?

These are great ideas, I'm just unsure how to make them work in ME3. Also while these sorts of things would be great they're also very time consuming to make. I wouldn't mind a "colony world" or two that had something of a small story arc of its own though (2-3 missions) with some actual choices to be made.
