I like the idea aswell but i really think if they did anything it would coinside with Earth. Collecting and spending resources to defend the planet, perhaps in a vague sense or even a very detailed sense. Like building AA guns, bunkers, ships, orbital defenses, etc. Assigning races or factions you've alligned with to defend/recapture areas.

ME definately needs something like your idea, in ME2 you can spend hours scanning planets for resources that you have no use for whatsoever. I have 70k/325k/240k/290k resources right now and I only need like 10% of that for actual upgrades. They have the infrastructure for your idea or something similar already in place and I'd love to see something like that.

It was originally an ME2 idea but I changed it when they said they wouldn't do any more dlc

was thinking about something like this, searched colonization on forums and you'd beat me to it.
would be something fun to do once you'd completed the game.

I was thinking more like buy a some kind of colony upgrade for the Normandy for a high price and pick a planet to dump it on and go from there. Obviously if you pick a gas giant or a planet with depleted resources your colony is going to fail or not do very well.

only down side to this I can see is it might mean you stay on that planet with your colony all the time taking away the 'space exploration aspect'. also it might be hard to stop the quests from getting repetitive after you've been asked to raid camp x or stop the varren eating your food supplies so many times like it is in most games like this.

but your definitely on to something with this idea! they talk about colonization and colonies so much in the games you'd think it'd be obvious to include something like this.

Well, if you have enough generic missions then they aren't so tedious

So, the entire Milky Way is under attack by the Reapers, and you want to build colonies?

It's pretty good idea though and I'm sure it would be loads of fun. It just seems a bit out of place in ME3. Perhaps the guys who made Sim City could make a Mass Effect themed Sim Colonies or something? :P

I think it's a great idea, I could see myself spending alot of time with that part of the game like I did renovating Rome in ACB.

Telex, have you ever tried the Settler mod -or whatever it's called- for Fallout 3?

I tried it for FNV, and got tired of it when I didn't see any townspeople.

Ah, I was just wondering if you were partially inspired from it.

Played it's very first stages with FO3, you could have buildings with specific uses and assign roles to the NPCs.

NWN2 has one of best implementations of such concept. Good balance between strategic control and personal intervention.

The quarians are planning a full scale war with the geth in ME2, would that be a side quest in ME3?

Well, then think of it as a safe temporary shelter for refugees that flee the Reapers; it would make sense...
During your missions you could direct civilians there and (directly or indirectly) contribute to the well being of this shelter/colony (so it can survive) while the Reapers are fought...
This also makes it an excuse to create a "melting pot" of cultures, you'll see Turians, Asari, Humans, krogan, Salarians, Quarians, etc...

Maybe this"colony", could even be considered the "Base Camp" of the joint army (the injured are healed there, refugees sheltered, weapons or other broken things repaired, etc...).
Brings "we are all in this together" to a whole new level, and may bring some minor bonus to your fighting chance... :P

Maybe one of the side missions could even be rooting out indoctrinated sleeper agents that have infiltrated the place...

In short, I support this idea, I see lots of potential in it... As for the reason for it being implemented, the one I posted shows there are good reasons for it to exist, and not too far fetched either... :)

Well done TelexFerra!
