How much of that is serious?

Why? Does it sound ridiculous?

Well, come on, we have to have interesting and insane characters on this colony, right?

I love the idea, but as others have said, it doesn't really fit w/ the countdown to doomsday ME3 scenario. That's not to say it couldn't be made to fit w/ a few tweaks. Still, it's outstanding.

BIOWARE DO THIS PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE

seriously though, OP, this was an amazingly simple and great idea. The only down side I see to this is the fact that our exploration on this world alone would limit the possibility to see new space vistas such as different stars/nebulae/quasars/black holes/meteor showers whatever. While I applaud everything else, the lack of sky variety would become tiresome I believe.

Kind of like in ME2 now, how wherever we go with the Hammerhead its almost always purely a garden world...

I'm glad to have your support Bianco :)

I'm not proposing this be the only source of exploration or missions. I would be dissapointed if it became that. As for the sky, it could be different for each section of the planet. The entire surface isn't going to be grassy planes. If you read the Explroing Gaia mission and the Poseidon mission, you can see that there are oceanic, tundra, volcanic, and cavernous regions as well.

An interesting idea, OP, only problem is that ME3 probably will not have the physical timescale to see the fruits of our labor from colonizing a world.

In other words, if the trailer is any hint, we will be on a bit of a time crunch to save the galaxy, as the Reapers are already here, and all forces really would be best spent on defeating the threat versus cultivating a colony for resources later, as this takes years.

Yes, the Reaper invasions, as indicated by the Prothean/Collector cycle, can last several generations, however, this is merely to clean house entirely. I just don't think there will be enough "time" to colonize in ME3. Would have been a great idea for ME1, but I just don't know lore-wise it would work, seeing as how damn efficient the Reapers are at wiping out worlds.

Sorry to be a debbie-downer. Props to a great and refreshing idea.

Could be a colony being repurposed into a launching point for all the allies you're gathering. Kind of like how you see people in Redcliffe in Dragon Age as you gather allies.

Indeed, the complication is without knowing the particular context of how the main plot is going to play out, it's hard to say whether colonization is a "snug fit" to the ME3 structure. Nonetheless, you have to admit this has potential.

How long did you think the ME2 campaign took place over? I had a feeling that Shepard was galavanting around solving daddy problems for weeks.

Me likes. Me want.

But seriously. It's one of the most original and genius ideas for "exploration" ever.

I also thing that you can travel to other world and use your influence not only to recruit colonist but also ,for example, negotiate contracts with Corporations or creating trade rodes that might supply you with upgrades or even new equipment. And later in the game maybe even having opportunity to build small space port on the moon of planet you colonized. And with time your small colony will turn into world of possibilities that many species will travel to.

So in short. I fully support this.

As for mission idea. Well I'm thinking about sudden discovery of new non-activated mass relay. We might have chance to use it. But it will carry great risk. After all we don't know what might wait us on the other side. It might lead to some lone solar system( like Arcturus relay is the only relay connected with Charon relay) with planet great for further exploration and mission opportunities. Or unleash new thread on galaxy like Rackni.

Not bad, not bad at all. Perhaps it's too late for such things but let's just dream.

How about three progress scales of the colony? Economical level, technological level and military level. When they grow you can get more resources per time, exclusive technology or better defended colony.

About mission.
Fragments of the past
(unlock when Shepard recruits enough colonists)
Colonists discovered that under the colony  is some kinf of ancient bunker, but no one of them can get in. So another work for Shepard(hello, Cypher). Lock on the door was just simple prothean check that you are not an animal or husk, but if you want to go deeper you have to solve few puzzles and deal with still active defence systems... in the end you'll discover functioning generator which is the only really usefull thing here (I don't consider some details about prothean history and purpose of this bunker  usefull).

P.s. Rewards for missions are too high, imho.

Such as what? I think the rewards on the missions are actually quite low. I could go out and 2000 Palladium in two minutes.

But there is also other resources and credits

+7000 Credits per half hour
+Tech damage upgrade
+Biotic Countdown upgrade
+Biotic damage upgrade
+5000 palladium per half hour
+4500 Platinum Per half hour
+4000 Iridium per half hour
+25 Element Zero per half hour

and all it will be given again and again.

Right. You can easily mine all that in 30 minutes. The point is partially to eliminate the mining minigame. The upgrades are to add variety to the rewards.

If you have a proposal i'd be more than happy to see it. :)

The mission rewards should be a one time thing.

After you get them, you get 10% of it added to your daily mining rewards every half hour

So getting 5000 Pallidium would give you 500 more each subsequent half hour.

Same with making a 100,000 dollar investment on the colony:10,000 credits.

Just to make sure you don't get way too many upgrades way too fast.

Mission:Rogue Corporation: A ship from a genetics company(ExoGeni?) lands near the colony mines. They set up stations around the colony. The leader calls you to make a deal. They'll protect you, if you protect them. See, their ship is on the run from a large number of quarian ships who want to destroy them for performing extremely lethal experiments on several of their ships.

If you accept the deal with the genetics company, you will lose the loyalty of the quarians. In turn, the genetics company will provide you with shielding for your colony, and defense turrets as well. Not to mention a faster growth rate for your colony, which will get you 2000 credit reward that will increase each half hour by 500 credits. If you decline them protection(Paragon), they will knock Shepard out and leave him inside a cage. You will have to escape from this makeshift prison and escape the mines while fighting Klixen. You arrive outside just in time to see the mines explode behind you. The genetics company has left.

The quarians give you a specially made weapon and their enduring loyalty.

TelexFerra, why aren't you working at Bioware??!!!

This seriously has to be in ME3. I'd even pay for it as DLC.

BTW Telex, make sure to check out the new idea off of page 2, worth a look and tried to keep it relatively vague so it's easier to adapt into a viable mission.

Edit: It'll be easier just to copy and paste:
So I've been cooking this idea in my brain for a while, let me know if it's a little too radical. On a planet that has a large body of water on it(a "lake" or something fairly large), A ship visibly crashes near a colony, and you investigate it.
It turns out to be a quarian vessel, the Telah'Ver. Even more bizzare, the passengers inside are not actually quarian, but thieves who somehow(Don't ask me!) managed to grab one from the thousands traveling in the flotilla, and got away. Unfortunately for them, a geth dropship was traveling and spotted them without their knowledge. Geth infantry and a collosus spring instantly. The collosus launches an enormous energy blast that tears the Telah'Ver to pieces.

Of one of the few things left from the rubble, bizzarely enough, is the equivalent of a Quarian Life-raft. Surrounded by geth and only a lake-bed, shepard takes the last 2 survivors and points them into the raft, taking cover and protecting the survivors as best he can. The turian thieves brought long, thin metal scraps from the blast of the Telah-Ver. Eventually they manage to get to the colony after a tight battle on the lakebed with a number of options: You COULD just kill them, or give them a second chance, send them to the proper authorities and call the flotilla... or just punch them or something >:)

Mission Name: Crossing the Telah'Ver
That's right, it's a radical re-interpretation of the most well known colonist journey, Crossing the delaware. O_O

You guys are moving into management territoriy, like a Mount & Blade in Space. While I do agree that Bioware should make ME3 absolutely grand considering it is space, the one place we can only dream about going, and add lots of stuff like this Colonization in Space and elements of Mount & Blade's Diplomacy Mod, I doubt they have the time or the willingness to put the effort into it. It's a story they want to tell, not create a long lasting strategy game.

If that happens it is well justified within the time crunch of saving the galaxy.  But this also means it no longer feels like a side mission anymore.  Its now more like a subplot to the main mission itself.  Kind of how like TIM encourages you to make sure your team is strong and what not.  AKA doing loyalty missions for squadmates.

While entirely optional it integrates right into the main mission itself.

The way side missions works, I feel would be like most of the N7 missions you pick up in ME2.  Sure they provide resources but most don't integrate directly into the main plot itself.  Or like in ME1 where you discover an abandon vessel with the crew turned to husks.   Mission itself does not really further the mainplot but helps fill out some fluff / lore about the game's backgrounds.

Edit.

I personally feel that the idea presented by the OP is rather good and has lots of potential to expand rom.  But the impact and scale of it seems too grand to be classified as a side mission.  It should be another main-game by itself.   It will make a good exploration spin-off based on the ME universe though.  OTOH, the core-ideas presented by the OP can work for any other space sci fi settings as well.
