I doubt they have the time or the willingness to put the effort into it.

It's a thought that admittedly has passed through my mind as well... it could be either way, I don't know for sure. I suppose I try to support and contribute to this thread in the hopes that the idea has a possible use in-game. It solves many 'issues" gamers have had with ME2, and could(at least potentially) contribute to the ending of ME3. With millions dead on the first day, attempts to help bring growth and life back into the galactic civilizations may very well be a necessity... take it as planting a seed for future generations. It may not seem like much now, but perhaps millenia after helping these colonies develop, each one could be another Illium(And hopefully not a tuchanka!).

I'm going to think about changing the rewards as posted on the previous page.

@ the two mission ideas, I don't want to have a whole bunch of Quarian missions. Missions involving the other races would make the missions more diverse.

Mission Idea.

Operation: Nova Interception

Shepard get some intel that small pirate fleet of (few frigates and one light cruiser) will soon attack our colony. Best form of defense will be direct attack on them in space. But attacking with Normandy alone is to risky. Fortunately Blue suns contact with Shepard and offer their help ( Blue suns have few frigates).

Nows here what we can experience depending on decisions made in ME2:

a)Pirate Fleet is commanded by Vido

OR

Pirates are leaded by one of the power hungry commander that whant to gaind some resources in order to take over Blue Suns since Vido died.

b)Blue Suns that Contact with Shepard are splinter group leaded Zaeed.

OR

Blue Suns that contacted Shepard are leaded by other high ranking Member that want to take over Blue Suns

Now we can accept offer of Bule suns or not.

If we accept their offer we will be supported in space battle that will destroy all enemy frigates and end with boarding action on light cruiser with enemy commander on it.

If we refuse offer Normandy alone will mange to board light cruiser but couple enemy frigates will attack colony in the mean time. Witch in the end of mission will consequence with lost of many colonist and damage to most crucial buildings.

Second half of the mission is fight with blue suns on the deck of cruiser. Depending on our earlier decision we will be fighting alone with our team alone or be supported by blue suns.

After some shooting we finally manage to capture enemy commander. Here we can make another decisions.

a) Let him go ( The less profitable decision but some players might complain that it wasn't there)

B) Take him to intergeneration ( Our ally BS Commander will be most happy from this option while Zaeed will have a Mixed feelings)

c) Kill him ( Ally BS Commander will be neutral about that while if BS were leaded by Zeeed he will kill him personally)

d) Ally with him. ( This will lead to another fight against splinter group of Blue Suns. In the end Enemy commander will become our ally.)

Rewards:

If we let enemy go free:

Credits -5000 ( Blue suns what to be paid)

Risk of attack against colony +10%

And no further offer of services.

If we Take enemy for intergeneration ,allied with him or killed him:

Credits +8000

Also blue suns will make few offers of their services:

Slue suns will offer a ocasional space patrols against pirates.

Cost Credits 5000

Risk of attacking colony decreased by 5%

Blue suns Will create small post on the colony

Cost Credits 3000

Defence of colony increased by 5%

Also one offer extra for taking enemy commander alive or ally with him ( or if he was killed by Zaeed):

Blue Suns offer their frigates as escort for colony trade ships

Cost Credits 6000

Chance of attack against your trade ships decreased by 10%

Sorry guys I've got a backlog of things I'd like to do for this thread.

Unfortunately it needs to wait for a bit. I'm in the middle of some personal calibrations.

I think your ME3 side mission and exploration proposal is awesome. You obviously put some time into it and  it shows. Hopefull Bioware listens to this. The planet scanning mechanic was a time waster and gave the perception that the game was longer than it actually was. I spent lots of time doing mindless mining. That was not fun at all.

Yes, you have put a lot of time and thought into this but I don't think ME3 is the right place for it. I think a theme like this might be a good idea for a game after ME3.

Really well thought out idea OP and one i'd love to see implemented. This is something that would not only work, but be hugely enjoyable. And it'll really add to the replay value of the game. Definately gets my seal of approval. With any luck the Bioware guys are still open to new ideas for ME3 and give this idea the consideration it deserves.

I haven't had the chance to read all of the posts and ideas in this thread yet. But from the little I have managed to so far I can only say...

... Oh Hell YES!

Missions with differing outcomes or locations that change dynamicaly over time are something that would be awsome in this setting.

Off on a slight tangent - there was one thing that always bothered me in the game Oblivion, Kvatch, it was a great set of missions that just ended with "Oh yeah we can rebuild now", but nothing ever came of it, it would have been brilliant for something like this, but was turned into an utterly wasted oportunity .

I believe there is a mod that allows you to rebuild Kvatch. :wizard:

Make them Turian law enforcement.

I'll add it soon, but I don't think I'm going to involve the cage bit. :P

I think its an interesting proposal but I don't think it would work. Exploring a planet is no where near as exciting as exploring planet'/s. The reason why ME1 was exciting was because each planet had its own weather and secrets. Staying on one planet for the majority of sidequests would be...boring to put it bluntly. I wouldn't mind it being a hub for missions that you could take offworld, but not staying on the same planet.

As I said, the planet would not represent the majority of the game's side missions. Ideally, this planet would be one of many that you could explore, but the only one that you could colonize.

The planet is also intended to have diverse regions so that you're not driving through grassy planes the entire time.

I know this reference in ME forums is done over and over again, but it must be done here - you could say the same about halo 1. Like Telex mentioned, "The planet is also intended to have diverse regions so that you're not driving through grassy planes the entire time." Enough clever level design and unique environmental work, and you just made a whole lot with very little. Hurray? :P

i like this idea very much, but think bioware would have to weave it into the story in a way that would make shepard seem like he is still doing something to save the galaxy, and not just help out colonists.

To reiterate from a previous comment I made on here, think of it as a seed for future generations. If Shepard manages to stop the reaper invasions, the population loss is still going to be nothing short of staggering. As colonies continue to grow and develop, within a time frame long after the events of Shepard's story arc, what were once just colonies could be fully developed cities, civilizations, doing literally worlds of good for the galaxy. This isn't just a clever excuse to add "side quests" to ME3. What we're trying to do is heal the galaxy, figuratively speaking.

I'm not usually a fan of side missions unrelated to the main story but this is an absolutely fantastic concept. I might consider sacrifycing N7 missions and planet scanning altogether for one long spiralling side mission that we gain our credits and resources from. The sad part is that I doubt the ME team would put it in exactly like your concept for fear of critisism from taking mission ideas from fans. The best to hope for would be they put in something similiar.
