if the things you are building are going to help stop the things that are coming to destroy everything on every planet then yes, it will be the best time to build them. thats also assuming that the reapers would already be there since the start of the game. they could easily come in at the middle or even the end giving the player plenty of time for side quests.

as for the side tours it could also be said that those few hours could have been a few more spent stopping the collectors/reapers/geth instead of say finding a lost credit chit or arguing with a pregnant lady.

EDIT: for the colony idea it could be said that since its a new colony it wont be on official records so the reapers have no way of finding it right away like Ilos giving shepard a place to build up his forces. for the station idea, same thing, it gives shepard a place to help boost his forces to fight off the reapers.

Don't you think the colony/starbase idea would be a good place to allow user-created content?

That's if they even can release modding tools.
Correct me if I'm wrong but there was no easy way to mod ME2, and it will probably be the same in ME3.

Besides that, an excellent and refreshing idea admist a forum full of trolls and complainers. I hope Bioware implements this.

to be honest user-created content is a mixed bag for me. some can seem like parts of the game that have always been there while others feel really unbalanced and out of place.

if bioware looks over the user stuff and gives the green for it (for quality control, continuity, ect) ive got no problem with it.

as promise it looks i know bioware will not listen to you bud. bioware is saying it is listing to you but listens to the mass effect of a group of people rather then 1 person with a idea... i stopt believing that a long time ago. further then that. awsome mate

TelexFerra...OUTSTANDING idea. It is obvious that you put a lot of thought into this and it seems like a great way to fix the resource mining drudgery. I liked planet exploration in ME1 TONS better than the linear N7 missions in ME2, even if the Mako was a little unwieldy. I was thinking that a happy compromise for ME3 would be to incorporate some wide open planet exploration (a la ME1) with the M44 Hammerhead then do a little bit of resource mining. Kind of a half and half deal with less of each being more in the long run. I like your idea better however, and sincerely hope Bioware pays attention to this! More than anything though, I think the linear level design has got to go in favor of a more, "sandboxy," game style. (Totally different kind of game but look at RDR for example). Sure, I understand that if you put me on a derelict starship for a side mission that it's going to be pretty, "linear," in design, but a planet?!? Come on!

Don't give up with this TelexFerra! They have to listen!!!

I like the idea, it gets rid of the boring mining minigame and gives sidemission a meaning.
This should be implemented where can I sign.

I think I posted my approval a while ago but I recently reread all the cool ideas about colonization and it got me excited again. Very awesome, well-thought out idea.

Even though we are gonna have to save the world and all and won't have much time i approve this idea. I'd like some more content in mass effect, more mini-games like this, especially when it's building something. Just one question, would we have the option where we could build things or would it be automatic, like in nwn? and if we were able to build i don't think it has to be too complex, maybe a system like dark cloud (if any1 ever played that).

oh and an idea for that water mission, maybe have follow-up mission where we have to defeat some kind of sea monster that attack the refinery? : )

I have to say that the idea intrigues me... not sure if it would work main game, but I love the idea as DLC. Thanks for actually posting something worthwhile rather than a bunch of "PC is better" or "I am not buying ME3 because..."

People should post suggestions more, they give BW a sense of what the fanbase likes.

Argh, four legions in a row; I need to get my custom avatar done.

I like the idea though I think it would be better if it was changed to more or less a military base. The colony seems kinda like running a government and making decisions, though your a soldier and not a politician

I haven't read the ginormous first post yet but it is obviously a very elaborate concept... and therefor it is probably way too late to put it into ME 3 ._.

By now it may actually be time to make suggestions for ME4. That game however may have completely different gameplay requirements so... idk maybe bad timing to post this? =/
Hate saying it because I love dreaming up mechanics and ideas myself and know how much effort goes into them...

Edit:
Assuming that ME3 may start with a Reaper attack it may not be the best idea for Shepard to go around on uncharted worlds to erect new colonies while the rest of the galaxy gets destroyed and indoctrinated... This would have been a good idea for ME1... or ME4?

Having a common base for all allies against the reapers sounds interesting though. Mabe not an uncharted world but a Ship or Space station instead that could be upgraded and expanded?

PS: Without knowing the rest of the game's mechanics going as deep as specific rewards isn't really neccessary since those are part of a rather though balancing act that needs t be done with the big picture in mind. Maybe some of the rewards and mechanics you considered don't even exist in ME3 :?

Those things aside it sounds good though and hey, anything that reminds me of Skies of Arcadia should be used somewhere :innocent:
(In skies of Arcadia you strand on an uninhabited Island at one point survive there alone for a while get rescued and later on you make the island into your main base which can then be improved by recruiting new crewmembers and doing some sidequests)

I also vote for a ladder like this in that regard.
