According to the wiki, Rivaini are "dark-skinned"(as opposed to Fereldans I suppose). Considered Duncan was half Rivaini, we can expect Isabela to be somewhat darker than him. It's true the differences between the various screenshots and trailers are quite confusing, but all in all, I think she has a Latin/mideastern vibe.
She might be a bit darker or the same or a bit lighter. I wouldn't mind if she were darker skinned.
Is Isabella WHITE now?

I recall a writer saying somewhere that she did have a similar skin tone and hair colour in Origins but the lighting in her little nook of the Pearl made it difficult to tell
I remember that too.
Found it hard to believe then, also.

I remember that thread - or one very like it. I'm sure if I searched all 40 or whatever pages that is, I'd find a post of mine expressing my incredulity with the statement that they're the same woman.
I still feel that way, but I've stopped letting it bother me.
I'm just referring to the image in the first post supporting the notion that she does indeed have a similar skin tone without the Pearl's lighting, regardless of how different she looks otherwise.
Ahh, okay.
Yes, her skin tone does seem darker in the toolset picture than in the Pearl - since I'm on the 360, I'd never seen that before it was posted in the various Isabela threads here. Her hair also doesn't look as red.
However, she still - to me - doesn't look remotely the same - not the same skin tone, hair color, body shape, etc.
But, that's not the point of this thread, and as Chris Priestly just said, "her skin tone is correct for someone from her part of Thedas who spent a lot of time in the sun" . So let it be written, so let it be accepted. I don't want to derail this into another "why did you change her?" thread.

Paranoia. I don't recall Sten ever looking like just a black guy, IIRC his hair was different in that trailer, but no other major differences.
I never noticed that Sten's eyes are blue. Observant me!

How could she possibly be African-American?Heather Cline wrote...
If you've played DA:O she was olive skinned but caucasian. She is still olive skinned Caucasian in the second game. Not specifically white but not african american either.

Native Americans, Indians, Africans, Middle Easterners, Asians, Aboriginals, Pacific Islanders, all have very rich cultures ripe for exploration, I think. A good example was the television series 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' (the show not the dreadful film). There was presented a rich fantasy universe wholly seperate from the euro centric norm. Dragon age could use this shows example as a template to incorporate other culture bases into the Dragon Age narrative. Already, Bioware has demonstrated an ability to explore other cultures with Jade Empire. I haven't played it myself, but from the adoration so many have for the game, I imagine it's narrative is at least as rich, if not as deep as that of Dragon Age. Indeed, I've seen on these boards on more than one occasion discussion from posters and dev's about the concept of merging the narratives of the two properties.
It's nice that Izzie and Duncan have a dark complexion, I like that, still, the culture they hale from is a proxy of Italians. Having a culture in the game that was truly an analogue of an African culture (Ethiopian or Nubian or perhaps even Egyptian), peopled mainly by folk with unquestionably African features, personally, would make me very happy.
If only, I guess. MY Hawke wil definitely be black (well hopefully, DA:O wasn't nearly as accomedating in this regard as Mass Effect is) . The narrative, as it is, is already very compelling. I won't enjoy it any less for maintaining a purely euro centric base. I would love it all the more if there was more, though.
