Do not let lighting confuse you about skin tone. Isabella has the correct skin tone for a human from her part of Thedas who has spent a lot of time aboard ships in the sun.  :)

Now tell us about her tan lines.  ^_^^_^^_^

You would be right if Gaider did not mention that there were black people (or the Thedas Equivalent) in Thedas.

And I don't see what political correctness has to do with anything, but it seems like something that likes to be thrown around on the internet to discredit things for no reason.

He did, and he stated they were Rivani, so. . .there would be something wrong with that in this particular case.

You're taking what I say out of context. I'm arguing with Ninja Mage who seems to believe Isabela, having dark skin, should appear African. What reason is there to make her African? There's no more reason to make her appear Indian or Egyptian, or any other sort of dark-skinned ethnicity. Ninja Mage wants this altered, and I can't think of a reason besides trying to be politically correct.

I also do not recall Rivain being solely and completely populated by people who have African features--we've met two Rivainis and neither of them did. You'll have to find that quote for me, where he said that Rivain is populated solely by African-featured people.

She is. She is suppose to have dark skin. Which she does not. I guess she doesn't have to be African, but sure as hell alot darker than "Oh look I stepped off the boat from Spain and look Just like Salma Hayek! BEcause Salma Hayek is Dark. Except she isn't, which is why this thread was made in the first place.

Someone call 911 on these people

salma hayek is from mexico not spain.  Spain is in Europe and isen't any sort of tropical island with tanned people to go on holidays!  ofcourse there are beaches, and there is snow, and there are mountains.  and there are people who has dark hair, red, blond or brown.  there is no difference between a spaniard and a french looks wise.

I'll tell you people from where my father is from (Agrigento, Sicily) CAN BE olive skinned in some cases but not most of the time and even they definitely lose part of it if they do not spent most of their time in the scorching sun of their summers.

it gets worse tho when some of them try to speak to me in what they "think" is italian....at which point I just want to throw something at them.

Edit: natural red.......blue eyes........spaniard.........too much to process....stoooooone -faints-:P

That and most Americans typically correlate the notion of "spanish" with Latin America, for obvious reasons.

My grandmother is Italian and emigrated to America after World War II.  She has olive skin.  I believe she lived in or near Rome.  The most Italian I try to speak though is to at least pronounce the food correctly.  I'm still usually wrong.

I'm just going to stop by here and point you all to a good, piratey Coquito recipe, and add in my piratey non-grandmother's explanation for why Puerto Rico makes both light and dark rum: "The rum matches the women."

yes they tend to think that anyone who speaks spanish most be from puerto rico or mexico!   even in mexico or puerto rico there are white people.   latin america used to be colonies of spain that s why there are white people there too.  is like saying that all americans most be black, cause they got a black president!

I don't know about "must be" but "probably are" would make sense to most Americans, given geography.  Granted if they made this assumption while in Europe then they're probably idiots.  Still, the ignorance flows both ways.  Though I think the US suffers more due to the fact it's both a vast country as well as geographically and culturally isolated.

Anyway, though I'm not sure this thread had a point to begin with - I'm surely well off it now.

You're preaching to the choir? I know. I'm explaining why otherwise reasonable and intelligent Americans might not. It's simply a matter of exposure and familiarity. Not all ignorance is contemptible or the result of some oversight.

I might have thought the Moors might have affected the ethnic composition of Spaniards, making them maybe darker haired and skinned in general.

I guess you know better than the writers and creators of Isabela. As well as the writers and creators of the Dragon Age franchise..

One of those guys posted in the thread, back on page 2 or 3. Mentioning that she is indeed the right skin tone. That should of been the end of the discussion. Especially if you take into context that she has already had a 'make over' from DA:O.
