Path of Evil: Released

Also uploaded patch 1.07 and am uploading a new version of the base files so all those fixes are baked in (as well as a few things that can't be fixed via patch, but we'll see how long before Vault admins put it on the page). Only remaining bug is Carcarin's quest, still investigating that.

I just started a new game with the updated base files, and it seems the AI issues from the original release (related to the CSLAIntelligence folder in Campaigns\\Path of Evil) are back. I was wondering if using the alternate Campaign.7z provided on the Vault would still include all the updates (i.e., I am not sure if any updates were made to the Campaign folder of the newly uploaded files or if all updates were confined to the modules).

If that is the case, I am a bit confused as the modification dates for those files (in the newly uploaded archive) are still in December 2010 (I would have expected something within the last couple of weeks). I am assuming that I no longer need the 1.07 patch.

- Spoilers -
I finished hearing the history of the Tortured King from Talabwyss, the Drow Matron. However, there was no update in the journal, or any XP awarded. Tortured King's relevant dialogue also remains unchanged. Is this a bug, or the expected behavior? Is the quest complete or do further steps need to be taken?

A nice touch that shouldn't have been effected by the bug is he should have a name now.

So it is a bug and that is the end of the quest?

I don't have confirmation but I am almost positive. I was obsessively thorough on my first playthrough and never encountered anything that seemed to relate to his subplot. That said, I did miss some content relating to another character due to a bugged journal entry so it is possible a trigger never happened for me relating to the Tortured King.ThePulverizer wrote...

Getting the history from Talabwyss (so much as she knows) is the finish. I understand the Tortured King journal didn't close, correct?Quixal wrote...

The TK adopts a new named based on speaking with Talabwyss. It is the drow words for Tortured King, not his actual name, which is lost. All drow text was translated via an online english/drow translation.

Correct. The journal does not close or even update to indicate something was learned.kamal_ wrote...

Interesting. I remember wondering why the name sounded more drow than human and sort of just assumed that he assumed a drow name when he got brainwashed and started worshiping Lolth. Conversion often seems to be accompanied by a change of name as a symbol of leaving your old life behind. I suppose that didn't make sense given that the TK went back to ruling his old kingdom after said brainwashing.

As I figured it, the drow simply referred to him by this name, dehumanizing him by not using his given name. Anyway, after his experience in the Underdark, he helps a drow incursion back to the surface (the drow taking advantage of his knowledge of the kingdom). The incursion is successful and he is set up as the puppet ruler of his old kingdom. Formerly
a good king, or at least not an evil one, he now ruled the people with an evil iron fist and the drow were free to come and go and do whatever they wanted to do on the surface as an untouchable elite.
The evil kingdom eventually fell to revolt. The people, recognizing that he was once a normal king, bury him as such (instead of say tossing his body to wolves or something), but put various guards into place just in case. So the monsters in his dungeon are guardians put in place to keep intruders out, as well as the magic that prevents him from leaving on his own. His kingdom is not supposed to be one of the major kingdoms in Faerun history, just a minor nameless kingdom and some artistic license to give him a backstory.

the journal is tking_compquest, it should be set to 11. Also there's 3,000 xp for finishing it. Not sure on the console command, but there is one.ThePulverizer wrote...

I looked through the dialogue tree for Talabwyss and found the problem. The action (the script "ga_journal") updating the journal is set to execute only if the player chooses the "I have more to report" option after Talabwyss completes relating the story. This wasn't possible for me as the tentacle rod quest was the last one I turned in to her, so I had nothing further to report. Perhaps setting the action on the last sentence in her tale might be a better option.
Also, the console command would likely be: rs ga_journal("tking_compquest", 11, 0, 0, 0). Fortunately, I had a save from just before I talked to Talabwyss, so I turned in the tentacle rod quest the first this time and it worked fine. Still didn't get any XP, though.

So, I forced Carcarin's quest to progress by executing "rs ga_jump_players(wp_carcarinN", 1, 0)", where N was replaced by 2, 3, and 4 for the sequence of summoning circles.
However, I am stuck at the end. After summoning Opehexh and some dialogue with him, he attacks (proclaiming something about teaching a lesson) and eventually gets killed. Nothing happens after that. From the toolset, I can see that the conversation "side_car_hezrou_death.DLG" should fire at some point, I am unable to determine what the trigger for that is. Opehexh simply dies leaving behind loot, there's no deathbed dialogue. What is supposed to happen there?

He has some dialog on death. It's from a trigger you walked across, not his death script. (Exactly the same way I did it with the guard confrontations in Neverwinter, which is what is so frustrating)ThePulverizer wrote...

I can understand your frustration with not being able to identify the cause for this behavior. I am not familiar enough with Ipoints to be more help. In the meantime, I'll just execute the actions in the side_car_hezrou_death.DLG converstion through the console to see me through the quest (and get back to the overland map).

Forgive me for sounding like a total noob, but how can I solve the priest quest at the very begginning? I'm playing as a favored soul of Bane, and I've searched every part of the beggar's nest with a fine-toothed comb, but I can't find the skeleton warrior knuckle, or the powdered goul dust anywhere! Please help!
