Rather watch it than these modern OMG T3H BLOOODZORZ EVERYWHERE?!!?!?!?!!? 'horror' films that just go out of their way to be 'horror', when in reality they're rather funny. Bring back the atmosphere and psychological horror aspects! :(

Oh yeah, in total agreement there: I find that excess gore is no substitute for real horror, and while they still make my skin crawl, it's for entirely different reasons...  I much prefer the likes of the old Hammer films, and whilst frequently corny and very under-budget, they often maintained that psychological discomfort that's so often lacking in more recent films.

Carpenter's The Thing, Event Horizon, and the Japanese movie Reincarnation are my favorite horror flicks.  I love the Evil Dead series and Braindead a.k.a. Dead Alive, but what with the main focus being humor, with the exception of the first Evil Dead, I don't really consider them horror films.

My favorite has to be Ring, the 1998 original japanese. Incredibly creepy atmosphere.

I also love The Shining, which is also about atmosphere, but different.

John Carpenter's The Thing as well, but it's more sci fi than horror.

I prefer Aliens over Alien, but the original is dam good and ahead of it's time. John Carpenter's The Thing is a close second. I never get tired of watching either of those movies.

If I'm flipping through the channels on cable trying to find something to watch, and I run across either of those, my search immediately ends.

Not a fan of The Exorcist, but did enjoy most of Exorcist III until the silly conclusion. If you end the film with George C Scott at his home, then it is a taught dramatic film.

Sorry, but The Brood is one of the worst flics ever, IMO.

For pure suspence, Wait Until Dark is my top choice.
