I have a FemShep for every class (gun-slingers, tech experts, biotic powerhouses)...don't feel any one class or play style is better suited for her.

My ME1 FemShep is an Infiltrator with Shotgun training and is mostly Renegade, there would be nothing more satisfying for her other than disabling a lowly merc's weapon with tech powers with sabotage, activating Immunity as the poor guy attempts to melee her but ends up hitting a solid rock and then humorously blasting him in the face with Carnage from her trusty shotgun and seeing his ashes fly.
So yeah pretty much female empowerment I'd say why FemShep is fairly popular, and this is also coming from a guy so yeah FemShep is indeed badass.

I was in this position when I played me2 for the first time.I thought "why is there a female option when all the commercials and trailers have a dude. I decided to paly femshep after I realized you could customize shepard and that sheploo was purely for Marketing and I loved it. Jen Hale and Mark meer both do outstanding work for Shepard and add intersting dynamics to Shepard. As for class, every class has it's ups and downs for both male and female, but if you want a hardcore smackdown dragout playthrough I suggest a Renegade Femshep Vanguard but ti's all up to you and what you wanna experience.

Played ME2 14 times - 4 as MaleShep, rest as FemShep. Like FemShep better, especially as Vanguard (watching FemShep charge and shoot, I kinda like that), Sentinel (tough to kill w/tech armor, and watching all the blowback when it "goes", makes me smile) or Infiltrator (nothing like a female holding a kick ass sniper rifle, seen Predators yet?). But, your personal choice re:class. I don't like Engineer or Soldier for either gender and have no opinion on Adept (it's just "okay"). Romance #1 is Thane. #2 is Garrus for FemShep. MaleShep #1 is Jack, #2 is Tali. Used mods to romance Samara as Fem & MaleShep...too creepy........Also, LOVE the Tex Mods 4 FemShep hair, eye color and clothes. Only reason I played it so much as FemShep (well, that & Thane as LI, I'm just putting that out there, as he's the best, imo)..Okay, summary - just have fun experiencing both genders. Just be sure to make different choices for export into ME3........

Why do people say female Shepard is a better character? Their dialogue is identical.
Their dialogue is not identical. The writing is identical, but dialogue is about the written lines being delivered by the actor, which makes a massive difference.
Like this.
Side by side comparison of the Meer's dialogue with Hale's dialogue.
The more believable and engaging dialogue is pretty obvious.

I always play as a female shepard. Having tried to play as a male Shepard, I found the line delivery worse than expected. So I kinda stuck to the female version.

Funny, I always play my femshep as either adept or engineer, and always paragon. I've just started a renegade vanguard femshep, let's see how that works out

I love Female and Male Shepard. Their voice acting styles are very different. My main Shep is a paragade femshep and she is a tough b***. Hale is very stern. My broshep is very real to me- he is very human and comes off to me as a really decent guy. It is a completely different experience and I'd argue Hale and Meer are both brilliant actors.

I think Jennifer Hale is overrated. Not that I think shes bad, but the whole widely held opinion that shes far better then Mark Meer is just silly to me. I don't think one is really any better then the other, and personally I get more into the game playing a male character, its just more relatable. The written dialog is hardly differen't anyways. Plus (and I seem to be as alone in this opinion as I am in my opinion of the VA's) the new default femshep face is soooooooooo fugly. Looks like an awkward cartoon character.
