It seems to me that you can only unlock locked chests... Not bash them.
What skill determines how good your character is at opening locks? Stealing or what-it's-called?
Am asking as I have run into quite a few chests I couldn't open now, and Daveth couldn't do it either.
Just about to finish the Joining quest.

Lockpicking. It's a rogue-only talent.

It's a combination of the lockpick skill and cunning if I am not mistaken.

Device Mastery and good amount of Cunning. Still find some that make me mad and just wont open

Verhalas is right, lockpicking skill is called device mastery. Device mastery is needed, and higher levels give a bonus, but the base ability to open them is cunning.



I find Liliana is the best at this - she starts with the skill, and her plot bonus is to cunning.
