hi ill give my pc first

its a q6600  on a gigabyte p31 m/board with 4 gb of ram
1 terabit hardrive
graffics card is ati 5850 toxic with 1 gb ram
windows 7 64 bit

i purchased mass effect about 6 months ago from steam and played it for about  a week

at that time i had a the same pc with two changes  a 4870 grapics card and  a 320 mb hard drive

at xmas i got a new hard drive and reinstalled everything with all the latest drivers

looking through steam to see what to reinstall i saw mass effect and thought id give it another try

but when i click play  it says its stopped working

if i click show details  it comes up with

any ideas how to make it work as i fancied giving it a try again

Did you try the run as administrator fix?

You could also try a cleanboot as some programs interfere with DX9 sometimes and cause games to crash

Find the Mass Effect executable, right click, go to properties, go to the compatibility tab, run ad administrator in Windows XP compatible mode.

k ive now got to the config screen i run the test and click play it just says stopped working so im back to squae one again

Run admin on MassEfect.EXE not the config file. if you use the non config one you should launch the game bypassing the launcher.

k ive run admin on the massEffect.exe and still has the problem
am i looking in the correct place
C:\\\\Program Files (x86)\\\\Steam\\\\steamapps\\\\common\\\\mass effect\\\\Binaries\\\\massEffect.exe
then i go to the massEffect.exe icon click properties and change it to admin and windows xp comp mode? save it and double click it to try and run it
is this correct?
