In the graphics settings for KotOR, it won't let me push it higher than 1024x768.  It doesn't stretch across the screen, but it has black bars on the sides.  Is there any way I can force the resolution higher, to something like 1280x720 of 1366x768?  Or is the game just too old?

It is too old

however there seems to be a guide via Wide Screen gaming althought it's quite a process.....

What mad825 said. A word of warning though, the WS patch is usually great but be prepared to uninstall it every now and again if you want to finish the game. For some reason it makes the game crash every time you fight Rancors.

And another thing: It doesn't support widescreen resolutions lower than 1440x900. If you set it lower than that, e.g. 1366x768, you'll have the lower portion of the screen cut off, including dialogue options, or for lower resolutions just a crash on startup, essentially making the game unplayable.



I'd recommend just keeping it at 1024x768, unless you have a monitor with a better resolution, like 1680x1050 or 1920x1200, since the benefits aren't worth the trouble.
