I think Mark Meer is an amazing VA for shepard, atleast if you dont play pure paragon. Alot of his paragon lines sound weird, but think he really nails the renegade ones. So if you just play paragon shepard I can see why you have a hard time with his voice.

On the other side I found Hales renegade voicing to sound completely ridiculous, while her paragon lines were good(imho). Her renegade/tough lines just sound very forced and... well, forced.

Mark Meer=excellent renegade VA
Jennifer Hale=excellent paragon VA

Hmm, maybe there's a hidden misogynist in me that cant take a woman trying to sound tough seriously?^_^ *Hides from the forums angry feminist brigade*

Haha, I also heard him speak several other characters in both the first and second game. Like that random guy at the hotel on Noveria.

He also voices one of the salarians that gets rescued by Shepard on Thane's recruitment mission. It's high-pitched though, so you have to listen closely, but I found it to be hilarious. He's a good voice actor, no matter what the haters say. Haters gonna hate, skaters gonna skate, and I'mma go or I'll be late.

Maybe I'm weird, but I enjoy Mark Meer and Jennifer Hale a lot more outside of Shepard. They're both excellent VAs, and to me Shepard is always directed as being sort of monotone.

The greatest villain he voiced was probably Niftu Cal, the Biotic God.

Not a villian, but possibly the greatest savior the galaxy had ever seen... until Sheppard killed his resolve. Killed hope. The galaxy is now doomed.

Mhh, that might be because Shepard is an open character that has the personality you want him/her to have. The only reason why s/he's voiced at all is probably to make the scenes more cinematic.

I love his Shepard. He's understated and dry. Very straightforward, and he changes his tone where appropriate.

His critics want more emotion, but it his dry and understated tone which makes him perfect as Shepard. He sounds like a career military man, so much so that Mark Meer's take on the character often reminds me of some of the Staff NCOs and Mustangs (prior-enlisted officers) I served with in the Marine Corps.

Perhaps that's why Mark Meer does a better job as Renegade. He sounds genuinely evil & cold-hearted. Jennifer Hale's Renegade sounds like she has a bad case of PMS.

Paragon MaleShep is like Clint Eastwood's Man of No Name - I may do good things, but I'm sure as hell not one bit excited about it. Paragon FemShep has so much compassion in her voice - the badass action girl with a heart of gold - there's few things hotter than that.

Dr Chakwas was played by Carolyn Seymour, not Gates McFadden (Beverly Crusher in TNG).

Carolyn Seymour did have a handful of guest roles in Star Trek, a couple of Romulans and a character in Captain Janeway's gothic holo-program.

Anyone taking bets on which Star Trek main cast member will appear in ME3?

I support Patrick Stewart as an Alliance Admiral.

My speakers would most likely melt out of sheer epicness.:D

Patrick Stewart would be awesome as an Alliance Admiral or General.

Actually, he'd rock as a Turian military officer as well. Though of course his voice would have to be altered somewhat to sound Turian.

Patrick Stewart can't be a good guy. That's not the ME tradition. He has to be a secondary antagonist like Benezia or Uvenk, so if he's Alliance, he has to be, like, one of Udina's cronies/sycophants who thinks Shep is menace or somesuch.

Agreed. Unlike Femshep's voice which always sounds the same. The same droning tone in which words are spewed out lazily.

I have to agree. Not dissing Hale at all, but it does always sound like she's speaking her lines "lazily". It's like someone's forcing her to talk. It also sounds like she's always angry all the time, or in a bad mood constantly.

Ehh, different strokes for different folks.

This. I have tried playing HaleShep several times but I just...cant...get...past...her...VOICE! DX

If Patrick Stewart is a VA in ME3 and they go the villain route, they could alway have him voice the main antagonist. One thing ME2 lacked was a good foil for Shepard like Saren was in ME1, so I think we'll be seeing a Saren type character in ME3. I think the books hinted at this as well, with Paul Grayson being cybernetically altered and indoctrinated. I think we'll face a similar opponent in ME3, and if so, Stewart would be excellent as the VA.

He could pull off a great scenery-chewing Reaper. Ever heard him on Castlevania LoS?

It's nice to see a thread that's actually giving Mark Meer some credit for once. B)

I don't agree that Hale is particularly bad at any of her lines (not so much that I actually noticed, anyways), but Meer is just fantastic (particularly as that one merc that gets murdered by Thane and chucked down the ventilation shaft on Thane's recruitment mission). :P

Funny, I think he does a very good job (much better than Hale imho). :)

How's he better than Hale? Everything the man says sounds like he's talking on the phone while reading a newspaper. Hale sounds the way the character is. The man (Mark?) sounds the way the character thinks he is (drunk or dead or something).

As much as I love Meer and think that he's a boss.
I believe one of the best renegade lines is by Hale, on Mordins recruitment mission whilst talking to the Guard

"Do I look like a looter to you?"
"Uhh... No?"
"That's right..."

The way she says it makes her sound like a complete ****. I love it.

I know, it's weird. He's clearly capable of awesomeness. I mean look at this video, just look at it:

He's hilarious in this, what gives? Why does he hold back when he's doing Shepard? Mark Meer, tear down your wall!!

He tries to stay neutral because the player decides how nice or badass he is. If I choose a paragon option and choose the renegade option in the enxt sentence, it shouldn't sound like a completely different character.

Yes it should, depending on the situation. For example if you're just threatening some one for information, yes it shouldn't sound like a completely different character, but if you're say going from being a compasionate and open person talking about the benefits of humanity working together with aliens to a complete racist **** talking about human dominance in the galaxy, it should.

Meer is my preferred actor. Hale is great in everything else she does, but as Shepard she sounds like a butch ****** to me.

Don't let the haters convince you that their opinion is the only "right " one; a lot of people quite like Meer's performance (they're just not as obnoxious about it as some Hale supporters).
