On a semi-related note, this made me literally laugh out loud:

Retroplayer- Do you have any favourite Shepard quotes or scenes?

Mark Meer (Commander Shepard)- The quote I usually pick is “I should go”, solely for the sheer number of times I said that phrase in the booth. The infamous reporter scenes and the scenes with Conrad Verner were fun, especially because the other characters were played by my good friends April Banigan and Jeff Page. To this day, whenever I see them, I punch April out and wave a gun in Jeff’s face.

ME Hale >>> Meer

ME2 Meer >>>>> Hale

Hale took "dark 2nd volume" to heart. While It made FemShep tougher it lost the some of the qualities that made me wnat to play FemShep in ME1. Meer just improved overall. He took the criticism and used it. As many said he shined in DLC and in the main game Horizon and Suicide Mission sticks out. The "I've had enough of this colony" line was perfect. He came across as hurt without sounding like a vagina, very Commander Shepard-like.

This is very surprising. He does a good job with all these other characters and roles but with Shepard it's meh. It's a dam shame.

It's on purpose. He said in one interview that his goal is to be as stable as possible so that switching from renegade to paragon, even within the same conversation, can seem like calming down or getting angry. Regenade Shepard is pissed off; Paragon Shepard is nonchalant or sympathetic.

I think he deserves credit for that. I prefer it to Hale's overacting. She either talks like she's about to hug puppies (if paragon) or stopped her meds (if renegade). Her neutral her only stable tone.

I love Meer's performance in both Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2. That voice IS Shepard. Honestley I can't stand Hale's voice and performance. Its a shame. I can't get passed the intro with a female character.

Why? Why is there so much Hale-bashing here? She's a great VA, better than mr. Vorcha at any rate. I know of a few people who could have done it better but the male choice was poor.

Hale bashing? Aren't you overreacting just a little bit you think? Most of the posts were quite diplomatic I think and consisted of people simply saying that they did not find Hales voice acting for some lines to their liking.

Your post is filled with far more rancor and vitriol directed at Meer (or mr vorcha as you so eloquently put it) then the majority of posts filled with "hale bashing".

Funny, I think he does a very good job (much better than Hale imho). :)

I prefer Meer over Hale. Hale gets too emotional for me. Meer delivers the most of the lines the way I would.

*laughs*   You should see the sheer amount of vitriol Meer is subject to on these forums (and beyond). How Hale has been treated in here is absolutely nothing compared to the bashing and general nastiness that Meer receives. In this thread Hale has been respectfully criticized; elsewhere, Meer has been villified and viciously insulted in a manner suggesting that he had dropkicked a litter of puppies.

Perhaps if people don't like their preferred voice actor getting bashed they should not do the exact same thing to the other one. Just a thought.   *eyes Sandbox47 pointedly*

i think that meer and hale both have lines that go awry, the difference for me being that when meer doesn't deliver a stellar line, it sort of just falls flat, whereas hale seems to...ooze...her line. I can take falling flat, but at times hale makes me cringe a teensy bit. That being said, i have no problem getting through a playthrough with male or female, i find them both believable, i just prefer a male shepard, probably because i used a custom male shep for my first playthrough
