Gaider said he wasn't a mage, so I'm confused.YoziMaiden wrote...
Obviously Fenris is the only character that can be an arcane warrior.

Huh.
That's...good news. I'm impressed, writers. I thought for sure you guys would be retconning something done in DAO to bring back one of the companions. Well, shame on me for doubting. Looks like guys might get their elf romance.
Anyhow, is the Fenris-a-mage thing misinformation, perhaps?

So does mage Hawke in the trailer.Atakuma wrote...
How is fenris a mage? he uses a sword.
This is the second time that I saw Fenris mentioned as mage otherwise I would have assumed that is a mistake on their part, but I do not believe that both previews were wrong, especially considering that the PCGames preview was written before Fenris was even officially announced (They mention that only concept art is released at the time of writing the article)
Edit:
The article is from a print magazine, so no link or scans but this online article from Gamestar after the confirmation of s/s romances also mentions that Fenris is a mage.

And I'm glad to see we may finally get a Dalish companion. I was actually expectng one since we all knew we were going to interact with the clan form Origins in order to deliver Flemeth's amulet.
Thanks for sharing. Is there any more?

Why would bioware give these guys companion information before they officially announce it themselves.
We found out about Aveline and Fenris that way...
More people are likely to read a gaming magazine than check the official website.

The community assumes Fenris is not a mage because David Gaider explicitly stated he wasn't a mage.

So we would run about speculating, increasing our engagement with the marketing. Think it's pretty ingenius personally.Atakuma wrote...

I found a new preview with several new spoilers in the German gaming magazine PCGames. So be warned if you read on spoilers ahead.

See, I believed this until you have: "Fenris is a mage and not a rogue or warrior as the community assumes". Ser Gaider himself has said Fenris is NOT a mage and has pretty much said Fenris is a two-handed warrior.

Man, now I need to find the quote to see if he worded carefully and everything.filaminstrel wrote...
Perhaps Gaider was being tricksy and saying he's not a "mage" in the sense that people in Thedas are born with magic, but he can cast magic anyway thanks to the experiments which left glowing lyrium runes on his skin.
Mind you, he did basically say he was a two handed weapon wielder too.

And I think David Gaider knows more about Fenris than previewers. I bet Fenris is a special class that is a magic-augmented warrior. Sort of like the flipped version of an Arcane Warrior.
