I found a new preview with several new spoilers in the German gaming magazine PCGames. So be warned if you read on spoilers ahead.

Harmeless ones: Hawke´s mother´s first name is Leandra and Aveline´s last name is Vallen.

Gameplay: There are three mage specialisations: Force (more damage), Spirit healer ( more mana) and Bloodmage ( more health).

Companions: Fenris ia a mage and not a rouge or warrior as the community assumes.
Merrill from the Dalish Origin will be a companion.

Obviously Fenris is the only character that can be an arcane warrior.

Gaider said he wasn't a mage, so I'm confused.

Wow, really? Merrill?

Huh.

That's...good news. I'm impressed, writers. I thought for sure you guys would be retconning something done in DAO to bring back one of the companions. Well, shame on me for doubting. Looks like guys might get their elf romance. :D

Anyhow, is the Fenris-a-mage thing misinformation, perhaps?

So does  mage Hawke in the trailer.
This is the second time that I saw Fenris mentioned as mage otherwise I would have assumed that is a mistake on their part, but I do not believe that both previews were wrong, especially considering that the PCGames preview was written before Fenris was even officially announced (They mention that only concept art is released at the time of writing the article)
Edit:
The article is from a print magazine, so no link or scans but this online article from Gamestar after the confirmation of s/s romances also mentions that Fenris is a mage.

Fenris is a mage? Are you sure?

And I'm glad to see we may finally get a Dalish companion. I was actually expectng one since we all knew we were going to interact with the clan form Origins in order to deliver Flemeth's amulet.

Thanks for sharing. Is there any more?

Interesting if it's correct. Could be that Fenris has a unique magic skill tree designed to complement melee combat rather than the usual artillery types in that case. Sort of an "Arcane Warrior lite" ? Good to see Merrill back, wonder how long it'll be before there's a "Merrill for LI" thread ? Hours, minutes ? :)

Why would bioware give these guys companion information before they officially announce it themselves?

We found out about Aveline and Fenris that way...

More people are likely to read a gaming magazine than check the official website.

The community assumes Fenris is not a mage because David Gaider explicitly stated he wasn't a mage.

So we would run about speculating, increasing our engagement with the marketing. Think it's pretty ingenius personally.

Merrill? Really? Well, that's cool. I really liked her design, actually...wonder what she'll look like in DA2.

See, I believed this until you have: "Fenris is a mage and not a rogue or warrior as the community assumes". Ser Gaider himself has said Fenris is NOT a mage and has pretty much said Fenris is a two-handed warrior.

Perhaps Gaider was being tricksy and saying he's not a "mage" in the sense that people in Thedas are born with magic, but he can cast magic anyway thanks to the experiments which left glowing lyrium runes on his skin.

Man, now I need to find the quote to see if he worded carefully and everything.

Mind you, he did basically say he was a two handed weapon wielder too.

Well, a bunch of guys will get their wish. They have a pretty female elf now. Can't wait to see her redesign, after seeing how they changed Isabela.

And I think David Gaider knows more about Fenris than previewers. I bet Fenris is a special class that is a magic-augmented warrior. Sort of like the flipped version of an Arcane Warrior.

Merrill could very well just be temporary for all we know.

Can someone find the quote where he specifically says Fenris is not a mage? I can't remember it.
