If Merrill is a companion, has the voice actress been changed?
Merrill in the first game gave a rather lackluster performance. She also spoke with a North American accent and the Dalish in this game are all supposed to sound Welsh, are they not?

the isabela romance has some psychological ramifications that appeal to a lot of my preferences. Namely, if bioware does not treat her simply as a **** buddy then there is the possibility of being able to sway her from being very open with her intimate partners to being solely Hawke's woman....
what can I say I'm a possessive guy...
on the other hand Merril is an elfette...which means the whole cultural barrier and interspecie romance thing happening....
nahhh I'mma stick with the sexxxxy pirate girl

Some of the banter between the two was amusing, however the loop bug banter (below) was just annoying... I am sure it was said at least 100 times during my Awakening playthrough.crimzontearz wrote...
on the banter...I loved that Nathaniel was courting Velanna.....and that velanna was all flustered by it....giggity
Have I ever told you that I find tattoos on women incredibly attractive?
Have I ever told you that I find most humans physically and morally repulsive?
Good to know!
I think this may have actually been one of the reasons I ended up disliking Anders.
That banter was from memory too... that's how many times they said it.

I think Isabela's romance is definitely going to be a "only Hawke's woman" thing. That was the vibe I got from the part in the trailer where she throws her arms around him and kisses him, and the camera pans away while they have their moment. I just think she looked head over heels in love in that scene.crimzontearz wrote...

I hope all the romances in DAII have epic-y cutscenes like that one. <3

oh like that dipping kiss in the rise to power trailer did not have a possessive vibe?
every time I see it my heart skips a beat -sighs dreamily-

You know, the way men talk about women honestly really bothers me. So much of it in this thread. Velanna wasn't good enough because she was bitter and combatitive, Isabela isn't good enough because she's a "tramp," Aveline isn't good enough because she's strong and handsome.
What do you guys need, a frigging geisha?
As if women don't talk about men in the same way? The Fenris thread is over 9000 pages because of fangirls swooning over him. If he was a gruff dwarf with scars all over his face that thread would be 40 pages.

It probably means Fenris isn't a born mage, but a turned mage -- through all the experimenting done on him.filaminstrel wrote...
Perhaps Gaider was being tricksy and saying he's not a "mage" in the sense that people in Thedas are born with magic, but he can cast magic anyway thanks to the experiments which left glowing lyrium runes on his skin.
I'm pretty sure he's not a mage at all. Has anyone quoted David Gaider's post in this thread?
I mean, maybe he's being triksey and false, leading us about by the nose through a veil of half-truths, but I'm going to take him at face value.

I'm going to come out and say that, while I enjoy the inclusion of Isabela, I'm completely baffled by the inclusion of a character from a singular Origin. Merril didn't really interact with anyone besides one origin story.

I think the cameos should be really limited personally. It could get silly fairly soon if half of ferelden happens to have migrated independantly to the same place.Bryy_Miller wrote...

But I can see a sense in this one, if they want to include a dalish perspective (which is I think their main foundation for companion inclusion) we know the clans moved up there, and she fits the bill. They could have introduced a new dude from the clan, but we already have one archer, and she was the one they sent to the mirror to check things out.

On the completely contradictory flipside, it makes me interested to see if there's any new dialogue because of my Dalish Warden Import. Anything along the lines of "I knew the Warden" and such.

I had never played the Dalish origins, so I went back to see what Merrill is like and it's true that she doesn't do much even in that one origin. That aside, I like that they acknowledge her existence in the world, and how it's independant of your Warden. Also, her part is so small in Origins, that I would argue it's hardly a cameo at all. We know practically nothing about her, so for all ilntents and purposes, it's as if the writers are designing her for the first time when they write her character for DA2. Using a Dalish character with presumably little experience with humans or even cities gives an interesting perspective for the writers to explore, as well as other facets of her personality we've yet to see. They could have used any character for this, but since Hawke is visiting her clan, it might as well be someone who was in Origins in a limited capacity, and the continuity of the world is reinforced a bit.Of course, when people see her redesign, they'll freak out about how she looks different just like with Isabela, but I don't really care.

Yeah, I sorta feel like no matter how she looks, there's going to be a very vocal "Oh my GAWD! What have you done to her?!" reaction.
I sorta like her face tattoos, so I have to admit I hope those don't go away. However, even if they do, it won't really be the end of my life.

I had wondered this, as well, just as I'd wondered if having my "main" Warden (F!Amell) will get mentioned because Hawke is sorta distantly related. Any mention would be great; I don't think many people can resist hearing about their past exploits via a new game's NPCs.
