Yeah, I sorta feel like no matter how she looks, there's going to be a very vocal "Oh my GAWD! What have you done to her?!" reaction.

I sorta like her face tattoos, so I have to admit I hope those don't go away. However, even if they do, it won't really be the end of my life.

I don't mind if the facial tattoos change a bit, but those tattoos are a major part of being a dalish elf, and it would make no sense for her not to have them.

But her clothing, hair, and even voice and eye color and things like that, should be changed in my opinion.  The new art style and face morph system aside, a full companion that can be with you for a large chunk of the game should look more interesting than a minor NPC who accompanies you in one origin story for fifteen minutes. 

Personally, I'd like if she grew her hair out to about shoulder/ear length, and had mage robes that didn't look Tevinter.  I'd keep them short, or even give her pants like Bethany, and I'd love for some hide and fur to be a part of her look since the Dalish primarily live in nature.  Some feathers in her hair would be awesome as well.

Nah, she's going to be wearing pasties and a g-string, but they'll be made of dragon bone so it's okay.

Oh, I agree with you completely. I think that of everything, it makes the least sense to change or eliminate her tattoos althgether. However, as I am in no way in charge of design decisions, and complaining vocally wouldn't do anything other than annoy posters and developers alike, there isn't much I can do about it besides remember in the back of my head that I objected and hop on the new bandwagon.

As for the rest of it, I'm not against it being changed at all, because she was so minor. I replayed through the Dalish origin story last night, and I [i]still[i/] can't remember much about her appearance, besides some very basic things. Now, if Morrigan returned and looked like Shaquille O'Neal, I might, despite the futility, voice some concern. But as I doubt it'll happen, I think we're safe.

Well, she needs to be able to fell her enemies, you know. And only in anime can cutsey things annihilate.

I thought those robes looked a lot better than the Circle ones in Origins, but that's in comparison to the robes in that game.  Overall, I thought the robes were mostly boring, as was all of the armor.  In general, the armor itself was okay (not great, but okay); it was the lack of variety that made me yawn.  Most of the robes were just different colors of each other.  Morrigan's robes, on the other hand, were awesome and unique looking, which is why I'm glad they changed the way the companions' armor works in DA2.

To be fair, at least Merril didn't look like an arcane horror like Isabella in DA:O.

Swap the elf for His Varricness, the other elf for Aveline, and you've got a deal.

And which is something I'll never understand. Elves have absolutely no appeal whatsoever. They must be tolerated because they've become fantasy set pieces, much to my chagrin. I still long for a setting having only dwarves and halflings.

Whether Aveline or Merril are romancable, my Lady Hawke will probably not get a chance with either. That said, I'm going to guess that the Merril is seen as more 'romancable' than Aveline. If she's a permanent companion, it's more likely she's a LI.

those who're proposing Merrill as an LI, just remember that she's dalish. We've only seen how she interacts with others of her kind (including the dalish warden) and a respected grey warden; there's no telling what she thinks of humans on the whole. And even if she defies the usual dalish trend of being very mistrusting of humans, I have a hard time believing she would so readily betray her people by starting an intimate relationship with a human. She can grow respect for Hawke - like she had for Duncan - and perhaps even become a friend, but I just find it hard to imagine that she would be romanceable. Not everyone with decent looks has to be a romance.

Assuming she is an LI, I bet the big conflict in the romance would be her aversion to being with a human because she feels she has a duty to marry another elf in order to make more Dalish babies, not humans. After all, she's been training for years to take on a leadership role in preserving elven culture.
This might make her the hardest character to romance, really. It could even take years for Hawke to wear her down.

I also highly doubt she'll be as abrasive as Velanna when it comes to interacting with humans. I think she'll be a bit awkward and uncomfortable but overall do her best to be civil. Even if she despises them as much as Velanna she seemed like the sensible, rational type who can control her emotions.

Again, all hypothetical.
