theres an internet link from gamestar saying that and gamestar usually doesn't give out too bad info. i guess however the OP should tell us the line in which it says hes a mage. ill also get that magazine tomorrow and check on it...

Page 42 in the extra box with the companions next to Fenris concept art they wrote:
"Fenris(Mage) A dark new companion, for whom only the concept art is shown to us. Lead designer Mike Laidlaw calls Fenris a serious type who comes to the point fast."

That is the second time Fenris gets mentioned as mage by a previewer and together with his reveal on the DA page I am starting to wonder if he is an elven mage the same way that  Shale was a dwarfen warrior.

So maybe a mage that can't remember he's a mage from the amnesia?

To be fair, out of the "regular" companions we've had (that are mages), three of the four have been female. So if there's yet another mage in the works, maybe he'll be male?

But the amnesia bit, not my favorite plot device. Guess I'll have to see what they do with it.

Direct lyrium injections result in enought pain to induce amnesia apparently.  Kind of like Shale having amnesia after having lyrium poured onto here while sitting on an anvil to turn into a Golemn (I still have no idea how the heck that worked but oh well).

Take a look at this screen, possibly the full team:


First, have to consider that hawke could be a mage, watch careffully his armor and his skin.
Secondly, if Hawke is mage, so Bethany should be dead, right?
Third, if bethany is dead, why do we supposed she is behind hawke?Could it be possible this character is not bethany, but merril?

I suppose if Isabela has been relooked, if Flemeth has been redesigned, it could be possible that Merril could also be relooked, can't she?

So, in my mind, Merril is there and we didn't see her as we were focused by another one.

From this screenshot, we can also see that Fenris is not wearing any weapon and armor, even if we can see one of his arm, should there be a staff in his other hand, that was carefully hidden by those who gave us this screenshot?Anyway it goes further into the mage theory.

edit: oups, it's time to wish everyone a happy new year now, so best wishes to Bioware and all of his fanbase.

I think companions have static outfits, and I'm pretty sure that's Bethany's.

Also, even if Merrill was redesigned, wouldn't she still have her Dalish tattoos? Those, at least, should probably stay. Also, we've taken a lot of information from this one screenshot. There's no way to know if that's our full set of companions or not.

Time will tell.

From all the news I've read Bethany is a permanent companion and Carver is the one who could die. I don't think Hawke's class really matters that much in this case because in Origins they gave you two mages, two warriors, and two rogues regardless of your class and I don't see them changing that for DA2. Furthermore, that person behind Hawke looks exactly the same as confirmed pictures of Bethany.

I really hope Fenris is a warrior, but since it looks like there are 3 rogues (Varric, Isabela, and that lady in red on the right) in that picture having him as a mage is still plausible. I also hope you're wrong about this being the full team because ever since I saw the elf archer chick from the animatics I've been holding out hope she'd be a companion.

OT: i don't really like how BioWare has balanced out the specializations along dps, casting, or more life. I hope they allow a bit more flexibility than that, but i am excited at having another minor Origins character as a companion.

Seems to be some erronious items in this preview. I'd read it, but take things with a grain of salt if I were you.
