Fenris? Force Mage?

Seems to be some erronious items in this preview. I'd read it, but take things with a grain of salt if I were you.

[smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/devil.png[/smilie]

Do
you mind please clarifying what else might be wrong? I mean, I'd guess
the purpose of the preview is to inform us, so it'd be good to know
what sort of stuff we should jump to conclusions about.

Yes,
some more clarification would be nice. These are reviews of the game,
after all, which will influence people to buy the game or not, and it
seems problematic that there's misinformation being given out.

True, but someone (Gaider? Or possibly Laidlaw) said if they really
wanted to bring a character back they'll disregard the epilogue cards
if it conflicts. I thought there was a good chance that Nathaniel might
be brought back as an LI, and I'm still sure we'll be seeing him in
some form, but because Fen is sorta stoic, the final LI will probably
be more outgoing. So something like Anders' personality would be a good
balance. That and the suspiciously Anders-like character we've seen
make me think it might be him. However it could also be an entirely new
human male character.

I'm
feeling more confident every day that Anders will be a companion. If
we're wrong, we're wrong, but whatevs. I liked Nathaniel as a character
a little more than Anders, but I'd actually prefer Anders as a
companion and LI in DAII because I like to pretend that Nathaniel is
living happily ever after with my Warden. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

Nathaniel would propably be your better bet then. im not sure but i think hes leaving for "new adventures" after awakening if he survives. besides, you would meet him before awakening starts in kirkwall, while Anders was only going to Amaranthine for his Phylactery. And i also think anders tends to stay with the wardens, even tough im absolutely not sure of that. besides, Nathaniel would make for a great character. First he'd run of murdering the guy who killed his father and then he'd come back believing his father was evil... great change of character. besides, hes not stoic or something, when you first meet him he's just sad and kinda desperate.

Wait, really? Nathaniel is absolutely stoic! At least I thought so. Never heard the guy crack a joke, unless it was an observation that reeked of dry wit. Reeked in the best sense of the word.

In some epilogues, Anders does stay with the Wardens. However, aren't there Wardens in Dragon Age II? It says he stays with the Wardens, not that he stays at Vigils Keep. Though maybe he goes back and then leaves again for Kirkwall. I don't know, I realize it sounds like I'm grasping at straws. I don't necessarilly believe any of that, but I can hope it strongly.

@Negix his personality is too similar to Fenris', I think. He is pretty stoic.

He assumes his family dead and everything they possessed lost. the fact that he came back to kill the warden (original intention) shows hes not that stoic. he feels revenge. when he sees his sister happy he's confused but hes not like "meh dont care". so he kinda loves his sister. when he reads that letter right in the beginning on that noblewoman he says something pretty emotional ("WE MUST SAVE HER!"). just because he doesn't care in the beginning of the game doesn't make him uncaring at all. he actually doesn't want to become a warden. death before whatever? thats kinda emotional...

keep in mind what he assumes happened to his family: heyyy my father was slaughtered, my sisters maker-knows-where, my possessions are gone and my familys dishonered... lets make jokes. yeah.... know. not joke making doesn't make him stoic tough..

Why would bioware give these guys companion information before they officially announce it themselves?

Because the word 'exclusive' sells magazines.

What interest would Bioware have in helping the sales of a german PC gaming mag?

The word 'exclusive' only helps the magazine if it's on the cover. Thus making it 'exclusive Dragon Age II.'

BioWare releases screenshots, trailers, interviews, and previews/reviews to gaming sites and magazines because they're a form of advertising.

Stoic doesn't mean feeling no emotion, or angsting without reason. And those things, you're correct, are huge deals to him, and they should be, so I would expect him to express emotion, especially anger, at those times. However, once most of his problems are resolved (he knows his sister is safe, he's come to terms with what his father was), you have to admit he's not the most. . . emotive person. I woudln't necessarilly call him broody, but he's certainly not the life of the party, either. Perhaps instead of "stoic" I mean instead "serious" or "solemn."

Well, I thought he was stoic, anyway. And not that I don't love him! He's one of my favourite companions of all time, Dragon Age or otherwise, and I'd love to see him return.

im with you there, Nathaniel FTW. I guess it would be kinda interesting to know how he was before what happened to his family. i guess well find out sooner or later, since him being in kirkwall makes him most likely show up^^

You've confused me.

But I just woke up after sleeping for 14 hours and I'm stuffed with cold meds so I'm going to wander off and see if this make sense when I'm properly caffeinated.

So the LI lineup will probably be something like this:

Isabela
Merrill
Fenris
??? : most likely a human male. Could possibly be Anders!

Sounds good to me. Posted Image

I liked Nathaniel better than Anders, but I do want a male mage in the party.
If this line-up is true, then BioWare are giving quite a few fans what they've said they want. Posted Image

ZOMG, SPOILERS. I swear, the high you can get just readin' that stuff is uh-mazing. They really should come with a Surgeon's General Warning or something similar, yes?

Ah, so Merrill may be the elven Dalish mage companion/possible LI most of the lot's been wanting? If it is true, then my ma owes me a beer as I called Merr being a companion (and an LI) a few weeks ago. If not true, I'm minus one beer and must marry my neighbor's longhorn... Maker, let me be right, PLEASE. Posted Image

Now, as to whether Fenris is a warrior or a mage... If Fenris is a mage, it would make sense if it's revealed that his name before the amnesia was not Fenris; therefore, DG's comment about Fenris not being a mage would ring true. Still, I'm more inclined to believe Fenris is a two-handed warrior, until proven otherwise. Really, just look at the size of his sword! It's HUGE! (If someone mentions it's because Fen's overcompensating for something, you shall meet my hidden-blade; 100,000 florins says you won't see it coming. Posted Image)

Moving on, I'm still confident we will be getting a human male mage as a companion and he'll more than likely be the bi-LI option. I still say Fen's fem!Hawke-only, if he's an LI at all; no to Aveline, no to Varric (please, don't hit me), Isabela is a hit-it-and-quit-it option (again, please, don't hit me), and Merrill to be m!Hawke-only, if she's proven to be a companion and an LI, of course.

If the male mage we get ends up being Anders, will I complain? HELL FRIGGIN' NAW, because I loved that snarky, blonde pony-tailed, cat-lovin', man-skirt wearin' freak. He, Nate, and Sigrun were my fem!Warden's main buds in DAA and my fem!Hawke will feel no different towards 'em. In fact, if it's revealed that both Anders and Nate are returning companions as well as LI's... well... I think you know what that means! Posted Image

FRIDAY NIGHT STRIP-POKER AT FEM!HAWKE'S HOUSE! Where everyone's a winner; yes, even the losers. Good times guaranteed! Remember, if you don't leave with a smile on your face, you're doing it wrong.

Yeah... I've had one too many Cola's tonight. Me + Cola + New Year's = INCOMPREHENSIBILITY. Wait, I spelled that right. Dammit, must not be buzzed enough, yet. To the fridgemobile!

ROTFLMAOOOO! Dude, that ia hilarious and you ninja'd me to it!.

On topic.... interesting preview...I'm on the side of believing Gaider about Fenris being a warrior(2-handed) and if Merril is a companion and possible LI, depending on who is the healer between her and bethany...she may be in my main party replacing beth...though I could just travel with them BOTH as well as Isabella and have it be a hotgirl party and listen to them all gossip along about hawke in the party banter...esecially if I can romance/bed them both at the same time and NOT be forced to choose between them TOO quickly....

im not sure about the fenris part....
but im really excited about the mention of merril. i liked her character she wasnt anything like velannas bitter character. maybe her spec will be similar to a spirit healer considerong they have awesome healing magic. kinda be sad she wont use any plant spells though being as keepers not a spec.
as for force mage i wonder if it a spec that just enhances the force/knockdown effects. like with fireball etc. thatd be sweet coz itd mean earth spells would be much more powerful than in origins.
can anyone confirm the facts in this article?

Posted ImagePosted ImageWhat you said about Merrill may not necessarily be true.  She needs a unique talent web, right?  Wouldn't Keeper make sense for her?  For that matter, Fenris could have an Arcane Warrior web, although I still think it's dubious that he's a mage.  Maybe the lyrium can give him surges of strength or speed or something, though.

I'm happy for a female elf to possibly be in the party as it has been too long, I would have preferred Zathrian's apprentice based on what little we saw of the characters in DA:O but beyond that I'm in a state of contentment pending how the character turns out in DA2 or Merrill is even in DA2.

I didn't bother to read the whole thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned before but could Fenris be some sort of hybrid or dual class (Warrior/Mage)?
