Why did bioware pick Mark Vanderloo as the default shepard? they treat him like he doesn't even exist...they didn't even think about him on the cast for the movie...i mean, he is the face of Mass Effect literally and why putting him on that place if the are not even going to consider him ?

I mean, they choosed matthew fox for the guy on the movie, because he looks like who? like Mark Vanderloo when he used the bald style with a bit of beard...its ridiculous. I'm not going to see the movie when it comes out. for me, mass effects ends with the 3rd installment. Posted Image

And don't tell me that its because he is no actor ¬¬...dude, everyone can act and even better if he gets a payment, so dont be ridiculous...

Best regards, M4walker.

His name wouldn't sell tickets, and he isn't even an actor.

Anyone can act. doesn't mean they would be any good at it.

And there goes my question....why letting him be the face of mass effect?

It's not like there were plans for a movie when the series was conceived. They didn't sit around going "Well, we'll use this guy's face for the game, but he won't play Shepard in the Mass Effect movie."

They picked Mark Vanderloo because they couldn't get their first pick.

They chose Vanderloo as the face model because he looks good. For a movie, you need both good looks and good acting ability. Besides, Vanderloo may not be in accepting acting jobs in the first place.

He's a Dutch model. He can speak English but to what level of fluency? Would he able to disguise his accent like good actors can? If not, would you want Shepard to have a Dutch accent?

Mark Vanderloo was picked (most likely) because, as one of the most famous male super-models of all time he has a very good looking face.

Bioware were probably looking for a good balance between beauty and manliness at the time, not thinking about the implications of a remotely possible future Hollywood movie.

Well neither does Matthew Fox, well at least not for me but then again I dont really get sold on movies by who is acting in them.

That being said I have no intention of seeing the Mass Effect movie.

Best quote:

I'm going to guess they had a bunch of headshots of actors, they liked his face, his price was right and a deal was struck....

That's probably the extent of it. He's a Dutch model, I don't think he had any sort of "in" with the developers.

In Art of Mass Effect they didn't explain why, therefore, I can only guess. I would think that they chose him because it fits with what they wanted.

Maybe I'm missing something, but are any of the OP's "facts" confirmed anywhere? The Mass Effect movie rumors have been going around for a long time now. If a link could be provided I would very much appreciate it.

Mass Effect movie announcedMass Effect movie announced[/url]

Unless you mean the actors announcements. No. There are no facts, just guesses. And right now, Mathew Fox is the best candidate for Shepards role, simply because he 'kinda looks like him and can kinda act'

EDIT: Yah, I misread your post. It's too late here, don't blame me =]

Nothing in that announcement mentions Matthew Fox.

Unfortunately Vanderloo has a meek voice. He has some acting skills, but notice he doesn't talk in the video:

feels so weird seeing that but take a few editing skills put some reapers in the footage and it will look like an older shepard seeing the return of them on earth lol

I think he was in a couple of TV shows if I recall correctly. Check IMDB. And who says that Matthew Fox is Shepard? Has it been confirmed or anything?

??? I hate to say this, but I'm not sure Bioware has total say in who acts. . . Now they might be able to protest or encourage this person or that one . . . But picking the cast really lies with the Hollywood movie studio's production crew - casting. . . ???

Other things that come into effect, and usually ruin games turned to movies is the studio's desire to redo tons of components that makes Mass Effect . . . Mass Effect. . . But this is done partly due to various things like the movie studio's varied binding contracts between the creator(s), workers, and the like. Plus some things also have creative development contracts. . . ugh. . I could go on and on and on and on. . . *sighs* Nevermind. . .

Here. . .

Anyone remember playing Wing Commander? Then seeing what the movie did to the planes, ships, and story??? Why did it crash? Hello ? . . . did the movie crew pay any attention to the original intent of the games? Did they pay ANY attention to how the fan base attached themselves to the story, fighters, ships, and characters though out that series of games? They completely alienated the fans of that franchise who enjoyed playing it. . . Hells bells the whole point of the game was about fighting the Kilrathi who barely had any appearance in the video at all !!! Plus the movie really suffered from a poor storyline. People couldn't identify with the enemy there, and players couldn't believe what their beloved planes were turned into.

Mario Brothers had a better go at it, but I think it was due to the way fans attached themselves to the actual character. . . Mario and his brother. . . and the story line was more acceptable by a non gaming audience.

The same could be said of Hitman, Lara Croft, and some others I suppose. . .

Doom was a interesting flop of sorts. . at least box office wise. . But it's one of those games that's more oriented on with battlefield fighting with little story line other than. . you must survive. . Which non gamers got alienated.

Now there are other titles out there. . . but I'll let other posters go into speculation as to which ones they loved or hated.

I can cite more than just "back and forth" to prove that he can act, check this out :

he has made a lot of short films for Calzedonia uomo.

and you can add that vanderloo speaks 5 different languages...also, don't you prefer to have the same guy from the game in the movie than a random dude that made "lost"? we all know that there are better actors...choosing matthew fox is only because he is "kinda" shepard...

and for the accent...he doesn't have dutch accent when he speaks spanish..i don't see the why ...he should be on the movie :/

I don't think he's been in too many movies.

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005525/

Plus the short films for Calzedonia uomo don't exactly showcase his acting "talent". Everything he's been in seems to be related to modeling.

And if you check out some of the other videos with him on youtube, he does speak English with an accent. Maybe if the movie were going to be a silent movie, then yes he might be in it.

Finally I would imagine that the movie studio would want someone a little more famous.

I followed your link and I dont see anywhere where Mathew Fox has been cast as Sheppard or any anything specifying the official cast, director, or writer. So I would put any stock in anything at the moment.

Did you seriously just use "choosed" in a sentence OP?

If English is your first language, you sir are going to have some explaining to do.
