Honestly, this is kindergarten stuff, fighting over different opinions, even though we're all old enough (or at least I damn well hope so) to know we won't change anyone's mind.
However, such is not the case with this thread. The title, original post and subject are poorly constructed and inflammatory. It brought no worthwile discussion on the actual subject, just supporters of the supposed cause with equally lacking arguements, the only real discussion here is regarding the nature of the thread and those similar to it.
I have no real desire to see this thing continue, but considering the moderators have not taken the effort to set up proper rules on discussion outside of very specific threads, there is nothing truly against the rules here.
That said, I can imagine that if this thread continues, it'll derail at some point, after which a moderator will feel obliged to lock it.
