Pulling enemy first before using Slam will double Slam's impact force; which 'course increases Slam's damage as well. Pull-Slam is a fun combo, but not the most effective. Better to Warp/Throw Pulled enemies to detonate them or to throw them of the map (Shockwave is awesome too, if you're not playing on Hardcore/Insanity)

Enemies caught by Pull (or Singularity / Slam's lift animation) suffer double biotic damage (Reave isn't considered a biotic power for some reason, it's the only biotic power that doesn't get this bonus).

does it have to do with the ragdoll double damage? Or is that only for frozen enemies?

Enemies affected by Pull, Singularity and Slam('s lift duration only) are considered (bioticly) ragdolled: all biotic powers (except Reave) will do double damage; (Heavy Warp will do 400 instead of 200 damage (without upgrades/bonuses), for example, and like Throw, the impact force is also doubled.).
Frozen enemies are also considered ragdolled, but tech/biotic powers won't receive bonus used against frozen enemies. Only base weapon damage is doubled (upgrades don't count) - enemies suffer same penalty when ragdolled by biotics.
BTW; during Cryo's freezing animation biotic powers are bugged (they don't work properly); completely frozen enemies, however, can be toyed with - it's great Pulling a frozen enemy followed by Heavy Throw, to shatter em.

As a huge fan of Cryo Ammo *and* Pull, I've had too many instances when I set up the perfect warp bomb only for my squadmates to freeze the target just when my Pull lands. Second most infuriating bug next to Charge bugs.
For the OP's topic, Pull => Slam has better substitutes in almost all cases. Against single enemies Pull => Throw has a higher chance of instakill. Against multiple enemies Warp bombs are better. Even Pull => Concussive Shot (from Grunt or Zaheed, who has little other active powers) is better if you just want to watch the enemy fly into ridiculous heights. Finally, Pull => Pull isn't a bad combo at all - if you angle your second Pull right you can double the flying speed of the targets, and if you launch them into the ceiling it's an automatic instakill, no matter how much HP they have left.

Yeah I hate those bugs too. Good thing is; playing Adept doesn't allow the use of Cryo Ammo (and because of the cryo-bug I don't use Mordin much though I really like his character). Bad thing is; Adepts can't use Cryo Ammo
With Vanguard, I either ignore (Shockwave and) Pull and max Cryo Ammo (squad) or I ignore Cryo Ammo and work on biotic powers instead. It's a shame this hasn't been fixed; messing with frozen enemies using biotics would've been great if it wasn't unreliable.

Warp-explosions seem to be the favorite biotic combo for most people, but there are a lot more ways to get the job done, and they usually involve some very spectecular moves. Only with multiple enemies nearby (within Warp's detonation radius) it makes sense to use Warp. Otherwise it's 'better' to use another biotic power (with faster cooldown) to deliver the killing blow.

I just started a new game, Pull, Slam, and Shockwave are really my only abilities so far, so those are the only ones I have for reference.
Don't forget your squadmates; they have (biotic) powers too. If your Shepard Pulls an enemy you can use Miranda's Warp to detonate for example.
