I prefer gaming on a console. I play games to relax and to me that means sitting on a sofa in the nice room, dog curled up next to me sleeping, no worrying about system requirements or whatever and a coffee or beer, depending on time of day, on the floor next to me.

My computer is just a netbook small enough to tuck into a manbag or even the pocket of my new coat that I use for Word, email and getting banned from the Bioware forums.

My husband will be playing on the PS3, I will be playing on the PC.

I do a lot of travelling for work, so I like being able to take the game with me to play on the airplane, while sitting in the airport, or at the hotel.

Plus after playing DA:O on both PS3 and PC, I prefer the commands for the PC better (DA:O is the first game I've played on the PC, ever)

Xbox 360. I want to be able to import the decisions I made in Origins, which I played on the 360. Also, I have no confidence in my computer.

Mouse and keyboard are the superior control scheme for practically every kind of game. Computer allows modability.

it's really not - i'm saying this as someone who loves consoles and pcs, plays regularly on both platforms and can compare between DAO on console versus pc. sure, whatever you learn first will be the "best" but generally speaking, learning controls for a gamepad is *easier*. mouse and keyboard allow for better multitasking but can be overwhelming if you aren't used to it. a PC player will have an easier time getting used to a console version than a console player trying to learn all of a pc's controls.

Easier does not equal better. At the very least, all the attempts to make an strategy game for consoles that I know of have failed miserably. Shooters require autoaim or similar helping to compensate the loss of precision aiming from the mouse. Graphical Adventures are usually shoddy ports or box-pushing festivals. None of these issues are present on a keyboard and mouse.
And considering the medium we're using to communicate, I'd say you already know how a keyboard and mouse work, so the scheme doesn't have such an steep learning curve.

I will be getting DA2 for my 360. I have never been a big pc gamer and have grown up on consoles so I'm a little lost without a controller. Have started playing The Witcher recently as I want to get the second game when it releases this year, also trying to get ready for the Old Republic, whenever that releases...

I really don't understand why some (the more fanatical ones, I suppose) PC gamers are always so hostile and angry toward console players, as if the mere existence of consoles offends their "high class" video game sensibilities. The way some people act, you'd think their family was murdered by consoles.

If I came off as hostile, I apologize, as it wasn't my intention. I'm just trying to show where my perspective comes from. The console controls, while easy to learn, and certainly more handy in certain specific situations (I have a gamepad exclusively to piledrive with Zangief), usually hits me as a more restrictive control scheme. It may also be a reason that my favourite game genres are usually almost exclusively on PC (four X games, graphic adventures).

I just meant in general. I've seen a lot of topics locked and warning posts over it.

I'll likely play on my PS3 since my 4GB Xbox can't hold much in the way of downloadable content and I have an iMac, so... plus, I have DA:O the Ultimate Edition on the PS3 anyways, even if I just had to wipe out all of my saves and send my system off to Sony since the BR player isn't working... d'oh.

Am I allowed to snerk at the thought of a current-gen system having such a pitiful amount of hard-drive capacity?

No, but you are allowed to snerk at the thought of someone trying to play DA2 on a mac.

Depends on the amount you need to have occupied, but that's about normal. I'd add "if a bit on the short side" to the statement, but you since you don't need space for non-gaming data and programs, it's fine.

I'll be playing it on my PS3. When I bought my PS3 I had only enough money for the system so I rented the first games I played on it. Dragon Age was the first game I bought for the system. I didn't even know anything about it, I had just finished The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion and wanted another game that had customizable characters so that's why I bought it. Everything else about the game was just a nice bonus.

This is too value-laden a way to frame the issue (for example, it assumes that the increased complexity of a PC is good).

It doesn't even assume that the increased capabilities of a PC is good.  It simply points out that you need to give them up if you actually want to save money by using a console.

Also, it simply never occurs to me that people wouldn't want to know how their appliances work.  What's the sequence of events that takes place inside your dishwasher when it washes your dishes?  Why wouldn't you want to know that?  Knowing that allows you to make more informed decisions about the operation of your dishwasher.

What I really wanted to point out was the the "PCs are expensive" argument usually ignores the cost of the console's display (a television).  And that display is of a lower resolution than most PCs will support.

That might be because the television is regarded as an independent appliance, rather than part of the console.

I happen to have my TV hooked to the PC so it acts as a DvD reproducer as well, so not only I saved in the PC monitor, I also don't need to get a DVD player. And my sound system is the PC as well.
Really, well used, the PC is the cheaper option.

Well my computer was made before the stone age. So 360 it is. Not to mention my Origins save files are on my 360, & I don't want to have to buy a better computer & two games.

I'll be on my PS3. My computer barely has the requirements for PC play so game play would probably be slow, choppy, and miserable.

I do miss the fact that I will be unable to mod; I almost bought Origins for PC just for modding.

The thing is, we as PC players don't brag about our systems unlike certain PS3 fandogs or xbots. Its when stupid and ignorant console players like them spouting lies and BS about the PC platform due to their narrowmind which initiates all this.

PC players hardly spout console wars unlike certain console fandogs, its mainly the latter who does so. Plus its extremely annoying to see how overly devoted some people are to a circutboard, its not as if M$ or $ony is going to give them money for their console loyalty.

And no, im not an elitist, i own a console too.

Xbox 360, because that is what I have. If I had spare funds to get a PC for gaming, I would consider it -- combat looks much more efficient and manageable, and that was what irked me the most in DA:O.

Of course, I could just be bad at it.
