I started playing Origins on the PS3 platform but switched to PC when I noticed certain discrepancies in quality and support between the two versions. For DA2, I'd *probably* return to the console version if there was a way to transfer my save files, and I say that as someone with Crossfired 5870's; case in point - I'm getting the PS3 version of ME2 when it comes out.

Here are my reasons (in order of most to least important to me): I miss my controller and radial menu; I have a general feeling that Bioware has learned from its past mistakes with the consoles; the ports are being done in-house this time; some of the PC advantages are up in the air or gone completely (toolset, overhead camera view); I miss stretching out on my comfy sofa in front of the big screen.

The overhead camera view will be in the DA2 PC version it was comfirmed on this very forum (and a few other places the links to the PAX game show and others are also on this forum...) the toolset is up in the air though.

That said I had originally rented DA:O on the PS3 and a lot of stuff in the game was bugged (I didn't really know how bad it was until I did some research a few months later...) I eventually picked up the PC version which had a long wait for the patches but nowhere near as long as the PS3 version had to wait to get that stuff fixed.

After the "Ultimate DA:O Version" DLC and all of the patches plus gamebreaking Awakening bugs I'm waiting it out either way if DA2 is as bugged as the first one with no toolset for bug fixes well that's a very hard sell for me.

Building a PC is not easy, and most people will not want to deal with this. Saying that the solution to making PC gaming as affordable or cheaper than console gaming is to just familiarize yourself excessively with hardware, know where to find deals, buy all the components separately, them assemble them yourself is silly.

I see nothing wrong with taking the time to familiarize myself with hardware. I'd be lazy otherwise. I regret not building my own pc. I have friends who did it and it wasn't torture for them. There's nothing silly about it - it's just buying responsibly. But I understand as a pc gamer I'm in the minority here. I just don't understand the hostility toward pc gaming. It's like me hating my neighbor because he drives a better car than I do.

Some people do hate their neighbors for driving better cars.  I don't get it either.  Image IPB

However, as a primarily console guy, I find it odd that you think there's hostility towards PC gamers.  I see it mainly as hostility from PC gamers towards those on consoles.  I don't get that, either.  Image IPB

However, again, building your own PC is not really "easy", and not everyone has the time to learn to do so.  I work 10-12 hours a day, and do a ton of research for work.  Poring through litterally HUNDREDS of articles, magazines, websites, etc, to learn the difference between one motherboard and another, one video card and another, one processor  and another, how large a fan is needed, etc, is not something I have the time for.  Frankly, at this point, I barely understand the difference between one video card and another.  Image IPB  Luckily, I have friends who do - who actually do IT work of various kinds for a living.  So I have that easy resource for learning, but it doesn't change the fact that I have other calls on my time that prevent me from spending the time to purchase and build my own PC.

All of this has nothing to do with why I play most games on console, however.  It's just why I don't go build myself a PC.

The majority of consumers don't have the expertiese neccesary to understand and appreciate the difference between various types of hardware. Before you get to the stage where you can research which hardware you want you first have to learn what the hardware does, what different features there are, and what the trade-offs are.

So first you have to actually understand how a PC works from a hardware standpoint. Then, you have to accumulate the knowledge to build one. Then you have to build one. Then you need to install the software all on your own.

This is putting aside other costs like actually researching the hardware you want + finding the parts at a cheap price.

All of this compared to going to a store nearby and laying down $300 for a console.

It just isn't going to happen for most people, and acting like this isn't a big deal is really missing the point. It's not a matter of hostility. It's just a matter of appreciating the difficultly.

I have been a PC fan for ages upon ages. I played ME, ME2, DAO on the PC. That being said, I have a PS3 that I use mainly for my Blue Ray player and I have a few games for it. DA2 might be the first game I switch and go console. I have a pretty good PC but it is probably due for an upgraded mobo and processor, but the thought of playing DA2 on my 60 inch tv and ps3 is too tempting!

PS3 for me. If the game is really good and mods become readily available I may pick it up for the PC when the time comes that I can replace the one I have.

It's clear that for some people, making sure EVERYONE knows that PCs are better than consoles, and that PC gamers are "the chosen people" who will inherit the Earth, is the most important thing going on in their life. Video games are serious business. Considering just how ridiculously worked up and hostile people get simply because some other people play video games in their free time on a console instead of a PC, I'm surprised there isn't more war and ill will in the world then there already is.

I don't think PC Gamers are better. I just don't appreciate the lies perperutated by some console gamers.

Each platform has a purpose and a place.  :D

Definitely PC, for many reasons, including the fact that most of my saves are on PC, and the possibility of a toolset.

But I'll probably borrow my friend's XBox copy after he's done, just because it was really fun to play on the console at PAX.

I'm with this guy, Huge TV, Lay-Z-boy and some chips plus DA2 will see me set down for a good day or two. Already applied for some of my paid leave off work.

Though I would be tempted to play DA2 on PC if It got the Kinect effect like WoW. :innocent:

I prefer a controller in my hands over a keyboard and mouse when gaming.

I'm a console gamer too, so I bought DAO on the 360, though now I'm kinda jealous of the PC version. Then again, I knew nothing about DAO when I bought it other than that it was made by bioware (I had only just begun to get into their games with Mass Effect), so I saw no reason not to pick the 360 version. But as I said, seeing all the cool mods and the very tactical aspect in the PC version made me kinda regret that. Luckily, DA2 seems to have improved console gameplay (especially the "move to" order - it was really annoying trying to get characters where you wanted them to be in DAO) :)

I read this and thought, "Wait, did I already comment on this thread?"

Everything you say is the same for me. I only got into BW games through Mass Effect, then DAO came out and so I naturally got it on 360 too.

That said, I have a Mac, so gaming is limited from that respect. I'm considering bootcamping though so I can get the most out of my steam account, and if I do I'll likely pick up 2nd hand copies of ME and DAO for the mods. I've had a play with a WINE port of ME, and the controls are so less intuitive than using a controller. That said, I can't play Half Life 2 on my xbox, but I can on the Mac. I think I'm better at first person games using keyboard and mouse, and third person using a controller. Heh.

My preference when it comes to controllers depends wildly on the game in question.  Which is one of the many reasons I ultimately wouldn't consider myself a PC gamer or console gamer.

I will be playing one my 360... All I have pc wise is a laptop... a laptop of which I only game on on occasion.

Also I'm looking forward to the changes made to DA2 to make the gameplay more console friendly.

Plus laying down in my bed and looking at my big tv beats my ass hurting on my desk chair any day of the week.

You don't really need your arse to play anyhow.

That's what that lever is for on the side of your chair. :)

PC, but I have no problem with the console versions, or even "consoleization," so long as the PC version has 1 to 1 mouse control and all that. The reason *I* play on PC is just because I suck at playing games on console, I never actually PLAY them. It seems like way too much of a time commitment to haul bum over to the TV, set it up, press the button, sit on the couch, get popcorn, whatever. I'm always on my computer, so I can just boot the game up and play it, even alt+tab out to talk on irc or whatever.

Just my way.
