I was just wondering this...

You'd think that after the end of ME1 with everything Shep did either for the council or for humanity (depending on your choice..) that they would at least make him a captain?

I guess I kind of understand that for game/marketing reasons its kind of cooler sounding to say "Commander Shepard"...

but still...anyone else find this kind of weird?

LOL the alliance must have the strictest hardest promotion paths EVAR.

:P

Spectre status supersedes position in the Alliance. Thus, Shepard is not technically a part of the Alliance and retains the title of Commander strictly out of courtesy.

I think it's weird people have an obsession with the captain rank.

I blame Picard for this.

Even if Shepard was promoted to next rank, he would still be a Commander.

Lieutenant Commander >> Staff Commander.

Hey, Shepard's considered a Captain by the Quarians. That's enough for me.

LOL Im not obsessed with his rank:huh:

All I meant was that after everyone pretty much agrees that Shep saves the galaxy at the end of ME1 he doesn't even get a promotion? Or some kind of recognition? All we got was that weird council meeting in the middle of the presidium where they say good job or your human leaders saying it.

I was just wondering cuz it felt kind of underwhelming to be the savior of the galaxy and not only no one knos about it because of the whole "hush hush Reapers dont exist shut up" thing, but at least some kind of recognition from the Alliance or the council?

I realize its not some kind of game defining element. I just thought it was kind of weird. I mean, at least give my Shep a frigin medal or something. :(

the alliance might not be able to promote him for spectre work as it was non-alliance work also as of ME2 he's not even in the military

He's no longer in the military. He's either vigilante or Spectre, depending on how you handled the Council.

I understand and agree with the whole "hes not part of the military" thing, but come on, at least give us a medal or something? I dunno...maybe it's just me that felt like Shep didn't receive any kind of recognition for his accomplishments in the game's story...

Captain Shepard wouldn't roll off the tongue so well when Bioware has marketed Shepard as Commander Shepard for so long.

That said, I do wish the Alliance would give Shepard a retroactive promotion though.

Yeah, either that or at least some kind of recognition, I was expecting all throughout the beginning of ME2 to get some kind of Medal in a display sort of like getting my old helmet from the Normandy Crash.

Its not really a big deal, just something that I found kinda weird.

*Shep saves the galaxy*

"thanks!"

*shep walks away*

 It sounds nice.

All though I'd prefer Lieutenant Colonel Shepard

Hell if some people in the Alliance had their way, Shepard wouldn't even have a rank anymore. Thankfully Admiral Hackett denied such a request that would have caused said situation to occur ;)

Sometimes when thinking about things like that and listening to how Hackett talks to Shepard it really starts to sound to me like Hackett is Shep's dad.

That would kinda choke me up a bit if it came true in ME3 lol.

You died.

And not only did you die, but you test-marketed better as 'Commander', which everyone remembered you as, than 'Captain.' So they chose not to post-humuously promote a corpse.
