Garrus is the man, if we could choose I'd put him next after Shepard.

Miranda's a much better task manager than Garrus is, Garrus would suck at managing the crew. Like anothe rposter said Garrus is a good leader in combat, but Miranda's better with Logistic and she has the respect of all the non combat crew members. Also RE: Jacob and Tali. Jacob warned Tali about EDI ebcause I doubt Tali would have loved being int he middle of something and then EDI stops her and suprises her because she didn't know the Normandy had an AI. While it's touchy to mention an AI to a quarian, it was nice to let her know before she found out and freaked out.

I thought VI/AI handled navigational and weaponry calculations, not administrative issues. I'd be hesitant to put a computer in charge of crew evaluations.

Really?
I think an AI would be perfect for crew evaluations.

Shepard: Miranda, I hate you, you're such a b*tch, I don't want you as my XO.

Miranda: Okay. Who do you want?

Shepard (smugly): Garrus. You just watch. Garrus will be an awesome XO!

Miranda (*pages Garrus at the forward battery*): Garrus?

Garrus: I'm in the middle of calibr -

Shepard: FOR ONCE, WOULD YOU JUST LISTEN?! I NEED YOU NOW, BRO!!

Garrus (sighs): Fine. What?

Miranda: Shepard would like you to be his new XO, Garrus. Do you accept?

Garrus: What exactly does that entail, Shepard?

*Miranda glances at Shepard with raised eyebrows. Shepard shuffles back and forth uncertainly.*

Shepard: Miranda! Tell him what it means.

Miranda: Paperwork. It means you do paperwork.

Shepard: Wait! I thought it meant he manages things for me -

Miranda: He can't do that, he's too busy doing calibrations.

Garrus: It's true.

Shepard: - and, and commands the ship when I go out on missions!

Miranda: You always take him with you when you go out on missions.

Shepard: Well - well what happens when I take you out on missions with me, then? Who commands the ship then?

Miranda: No one, the position of XO is a joke in ME2, maybe Joker commands the ship, I don't know. That's what happens when they make a squadmate XO. Garrus, do you accept your new role as paperwork handler?

Garrus: ... Paperwork?

Miranda: That's right.

Shepard: C'mon, buddy! Paperwork!

Miranda: Paperwork.

Garrus: Okay, tell Shepard this: Take your paperwork and shove it up your ass, I'll do your f*cking paperwork when you lend me your goddamn dermal regenerator so I can fix my f*cking face, you selfish dirtbag. As if I f*cking left C-Sec to do more paperwork for your sorry ass, why don't you just rename yourself Executor Pallin and put me behind a desk while you're at it, oh and why didn't you tell me Dr. Michel invited me to come by, I always thought she was hot, thanks you damn c***blocker. F*ck off.

Funny that this is always brought up, yet no one ever rages on Jacob who wears an identically 'revealing' outfit. In addition, his ass also have significant screen time.

This. Really, the only difference is that Miranda's got cleavage showing. Hell, their alterate color outfits show this off really well, since they're the same color.

How she decides she's all of a sudden Shepard's main assistant. I'm playing through ME2 again and she says to Jack, "I'm Shepard's second-in-command." Even though I'm mostly full-Paragon, I'd renegade interrupt that right there and say," Actually, Garrus is, because you know, he helped me defeat Saren and he doesn't work for Cerberus." And then slap her. B**** needs to learn her place on my ship.

Pretty much this. Garrus and Tali are my 2nd and 3rd in charge.

Strictly on evaluating crew...An AI could evaluate completely unbiased by personal attitude, emotion, or desire to protect a friend if they suck at something. An AI could do it faster too. So I think an AI is better suited.

That said, this is Cerberus we're talking about, they wouldn't trust an AI if it just saved your ship from the Collecters' attempts to capture the crew and (probably) destroy the ship.

One thing I didn't like was how she seemed to make certain uncomfertable/bad situations worse (did she have to be so mean to Jack after their loyalty missions? or get mad at Joker for something that probably wasn't his fault?) I really didn't care much for her attitude at the beginning, but she wasn't as bad as some here seem to think. I hated how she was automatically 2nd in command due to TIM and pointed it out often, but that's my opinion.

I'd have probably chosen her anyway (Because EDI would DEFINATELY be OOTQ on a Cerberus vessel), but I didn't like it being forced.

Dude.

She's got bewbs. Like. Big ones.

And a plump round but in tight spandex.

And black/dark hair.

And a "I'll kick anyone's ass but not you Shepard *bats eyelashes*" attitude.

What else could you possibly want???

But if you want Garrus so you can...uh...um...you can ..no....uh...OH YEAH... talk about calibrations...well...who am I to judge?

Edit:

Also, Nightwriter's theory is just pure win.

<_<

Ew.

I know I'm a guy but still. Ew. In ME2 I think they tried too hard to turn Garrus into a space Frat bro. I just got really grossed out/creeped out whenever he talked about his sexual exploits. I don't know if it's because of how his voice gets creepy growl when he does, or because his original voice actor is ...well...yeah.

Anyway, the point is Miranda beats Garrus hands down in ME2. It's sad but it's true.

Hell, even the trash compactor beats Garrus in ME2.

At least you can interact with it, it won't just brush you off for calibrations after three lines of dialogue.

Ew.

Now you can never look at Garrus the same way again whenever he talks about calibrations!!!!!!!11 Mission accomplished.

Seriously, Garrus over Miranda?

Okay, you don't like her, but don't go around pretending she's inept for the position she's in.

She's assertive, independent, highly intelligent, composed and extremely rational, all those are qualities highly valued for my view of a second-in-command as basically s/he has to do everything my Shepard has to do should s/he be unavaiable.

Garrus is more emotionally driven, and virtually bows down to anything Shep says and I can't see him really dealing with paperwork or solving conflicts on board. How is that better?

If there is anyone that should replace Miranda, it's EDI.

The squadmates are Shepards problem. That's why TIM had to spend 4 billion credits ;)

But I hear nothing but good things about her work (crew banter)
