two months till release....less until going gold

can we know whether NG+ is in or not?

Seriously it's not like asking to reveal pivotal plot points....... just a metagaming feature.

I mean even for DAO it was revealed waaaaaay early that it was not going to be in.

please?

I'm guessing it would spoil their fun if they told you.

To anyone who might have been confused by what he's asking, I assume he means New Game+, the feature introduced in old RPGs in the Super Nintendo days to restart a game on the same game file after completion, with additional features unlocked and sometimes even your inventory or levels being inherited into the new playthrough because you've beaten the game once before.

I would say it's unlikely, but there's always a slight chance since they did have such a feature for both Mass Effects in place. Until a developer comes out and confirms it, or the game is in your hand, it'd be safe to assume no.

And give people more reason to cry to the heavens that DA2 is Mass Effect with swords? Rather not incur their wrath of a million pointless threads.

i don't think NG+ is a good idea. Mass Effect 2 for example only did it to allow you to avoid some mining, a feature that gets veeerrryyy repetitive. without "pointless" features (things you only do to get ressources) NG+ isn't really necessary. on the other hand, giving the player gigantic amounts of gold or something right at the beginning is annoying since it kinda destroys the game... at least for me.

An honest question to the OP:

Why do love NG+ so much?

I probably haven't played as many games as you have, and the only one I've NG+'d in was Chrono Trigger (that I can remember). For me, it wasn't too much fun in there because I was way overleveled for the enemies

NG+ is only good in games like Borderlands where it is optimized for it. I doubt it will have it though

If I remember correctly, the reason he wants to know is so he can decide whether to spend the money on it or not; I've seen posts from him saying that if DA2 doesn't have it, he won't be buying it. The reasons given are mainly so that he can replay it again, without having to create a new character.

the enjoyment of NG+ varies much from person to person, some like it for one reason, others dislike it for that same exact reason.
i don't mind being overpowered myself, i can have a lot of fun just toying with my enemies in various ways.
basically to me NG+ is the answer for the console users that would like to begin their second/third and so on playthroughs with the stuff and powers from the previous playthrough as pc players can always use console commands to do it, something console users don't have access to.

wooooooo

wait a moment.

1: NG+ is totally optional so if you find it useless just do not use it. I donot play as a female.....ever...and I find it a pointless option from that perspective....so should we strip it from the game then? of course not!

2: I will buy DA2 regardless. I already paid in full. The point is I seriously dislike grinding for more than 1 or 2 playthroughs above all if each time you have to start from zero, one work playthrough is enough for me. The point is without NG+ I will only replay DA2 couple of times (as opposed to MAss effect 1-2 which I finished about 20 times apiece) at best and I would like to know if that is the case. that's all really

I wouldn't mind being without it, though I dislike reaching the end of the game and then having to restart with a new character. There's a few characters I have that I (personally) love in the character creator and whenever I try to recreate them it's 100% horrible.

Though this wouldn't be as much of a problem if there were face codes. :P

Also, wasn't it mentioned by somebody (Darrah?) in a preview that we're unlikely to ever reach the level cap? That sort of implies no NG+.

It was impossible to reach the level cap in ME1 without NG+.

"progression. Going from level 1 upwards?"

problem with the ability to restart the game with a high level is of course that the game has to remain challenging. thus, the enemies must adapt to your strength.

I think crimzontearz would dispute this.  And to an extent, so would I.  Part of the fun of NG+ is blowing things up spectacularly with endgame-level abilities for more than just the endgame.

Sometimes you just feel like the "difficult" bits are getting tiresome, and would rather just plow through mooks and get on to the story.

Then why not play on the easiest setting, or better yet, cheat?

challenge is NOT the point of NG+ but to focus on the story permutations and such. Even then that is what scaling is for.

On PC? Sure.  I often (after a few legitimate playthroughs) use the console to set my level to 7 upon reaching Ostagar to unlock a specialization, and give myself some gold.  I don't believe this is possible on the 360/PS3.

because even on easy you are starting from zero re-obtaining what you already worked for... and for the last time CONSOLE PLAYERS DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE CONSOLE COMMANDS

Maybe some people start on the easiest settng already. And cheating is not an option on the console.

It would require all new balancing, would it not? Otherwise you are tens of levels above enemies.

NG+ would be great if we had a true insanity difficulty to complement starting at a high level. (Icewind Dale fans should be familiar with Heart of Fury mode). :D
