NG+ wasn't really an issue for me in DAO, as I had pretty much finished every quest I could get my hands on. Since my character is never going to be evil, restarting it with her and then being evil wouldn't have worked for me. The only benefit I felt it could have been is to start a new game with the exact same looking character as a previous game. Designing a character in the CC is hard and I've never been able to replicate my main character exactly.

At least the second if my memory serves me.

It seems like a simple question though, and unlike most issues the opposition to it is vague at most.

1. Well in DAO max level was 25 and you cold  get to  about 23ish without any exploits.  Say you only get to 18 though; on your NG+ playthrough you  get another 7 levels and hit max level around, what?  The first or second army quest perhaps?

What happens for the rest of the game?  Max level restricts NG+ almost completely in DAO (were it to exist).  If DA2 is similar, the max level of 50 means we will get to somewhere  in the 40s if we do absolutely everything.  Once again when we start over, we stop leveling after a few hours.  Playingwithout leveling doesnt seem amusing.

Am I reading NG+ wrong, or is  that an accurate interpretation of how it would go in DA?

2. Another thought: Would BW not need to go back and rebalance for the second playthrough?  I know DAO scales to level, but now Ostagar needs to not only accomodate levels 3-5 or whateever, but also 18+?  That seems to  warrant additional balancing, unless the initial scaling in place already would accomodate for this.

If you don't see how it would be fun, then NG+ really isn't for you?  But that's why it's optional.

Only if the people asking for NG+ care deeply about balance, and I haven't seen anyone advocating for it who do.

Ashaman X, aye, same here... Never been able to replicate my character exactly... That's why I'd like Bioware to implement some sort of feature where each custom-made character is then added to the pre-set models for future use... Surely that feature wouldn't be too difficult to implement (if not too late by now).

I'm sure there'd be no opposition to that (sadists, perhaps, but I'm sure there are no sadists on these boards, right?).

The reason I would've liked New Game+ on Origins was because by the time you got to the higher level with the shiny new gear, you'd find yourself enjoying it very briefly. You'd eventually be thrown into camp and told "Enjoy." with nothing to do.

New game+ would make it so you can keep on going, fighting the scaled up enemies in your shiny new equipment and abilities. Though I can see some problems from the companion side of things where they'd be pre-built from auto-leveling, you still enjoyed what you gathered through an entire playthrough.

Dragon Age 2, if I remember reading correctly, is getting rid of the auto-leveling companions and allow you to distribute your stats as you recruit them. This would make it so a high level character won't receive an inferior party member, it lets you customize and removes one of the flaws of NG+ that Origins had.

because ME2 got its NG+ added late in development and because of a 100+ page fan request thread, there is a precedent to continue posting about it for DA2.

-high fives-

not to mention that the devs have been ridiculously evasive about it

I'm still not sure they didn't include ng+ in ME2 solely for the mineral bonuses. Maybe late in development they realized what a bore it is.

I don't think so. I think if this were the case they would have just added the mining patch that was released for Xbox internally, before launch. Devs had said that the huge fan request for NG+ was a big part of the reason they added it.

I think dev silence on the issue is actually a good thing at this point. That these threads haven't been answered with a Sten-like "No."  is a good sign imo. I think any question asked as many times as this would haven't been denied if there was no feature to speak of. Hopefully NG+ exists and DA2 is designed to accomodate it :)

Yeah, I didn't think of that. Maybe the silence up to this point is a good thing.

two months till release....less until going gold

can we know whether NG+ is in or not?

Seriously it's not like asking to reveal pivotal plot points....... just a metagaming feature.

I mean even for DAO it was revealed waaaaaay early that it was not going to be in.

please?

yes id like to know this as well  cos the freach said the max level cap was  level 50  and in DAO it was hard leveling just to 20  so there must  be NG-+

DAO != DA2, just becasue it was hard (well, depending on how much you do sidequests) to reach 20 there, it don't mean you gain levels at the same rate in DA2.

Just found this while listening to an interview and sorry, looks like you are going to be disappointed.
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9355418 - Interview with David Gaider, lead writer for DA2.

Skip to 19:10. "Will there be play after the end? No. It's not going to happen."

I don't think that has anything to do with NG+. NG+ is restarting the same charactewr from the beginning, not playing after the end.

NG+ isn't play after the end?

Complete game -> import completed character into new game, with all your items, stats, etc. = play after the end (at least, in my opinion).

It may of course be possible that I misunderstood the context, and David would not include NG+ in that context, but personally I would have thought that it did.

yes you are wrong for 2 reasons

Bioware makes a distinction between post end play and NG+. Look at ME1, the devs lamented the lack of post credits play in that game BUT they had NG+ in it.

secondly, not a month ago a Gaider (and Laidlaw) personally told me he could not comment on NG+ at the time. If he meant "no NG+" with that statement in the podcast he would have simply said no to me a month ago and this thread would have been locked by Chris

come on devs don't make me beg
