What to do with my Bard turned Lawful

I'm near the beginning of Act 2 in the OC and am intending to play through MotB as well.

I've been following a build called 'generalist oc bard', and took 1 level of rogue and 1 fighter before taking continuous bard levels. After 9 bard levels, my Neutral Good character turned to Lawful Good, and I think it's unlikely I'll be able to turn him back.

I was thinking of making him into a Red Dragon Disciple, but didn't have enough lore, so I took another level in rogue to get Evasion, and enough skill points for 8 lore, and my character is now:

Rogue 2/Fighter 1/Bard 9

Now I'm not sure what direction to take the character in. Originally I was going for a strength based Melee/Support character who could deal with locks and traps. I now think it'll be impossible to continue doing so, but I don't mind the idea of taking a new direction.

Any advice on my best options?

There's a big dose of Chaos available in Blacklake.  Just remember, "Let Freedom Ring!"

In Console, type:

DebugMode 1

rs ga_alignment(1,1)
to move one point towards Law

rs ga_alignment(-1,1)
to move one point towards Chaos

rs ga_alignment(1,0)
to move one point towards good

rs ga_alignment(-1,0)
to move one point towards evil

DebugMode 0

As Arkazeth said above me, Eldritch Knight would work wonderfully. Seven more arcane spellcasting levels gives you CL 16, enough for sixth level magic*, and you can reach 16 BAB with it by Level 20.

Alternatively, one more level of Rogue will qualify you for Arcane Trickster, which would let you play your original concept, again get you to CL 16, advance your Sneak Attack progression to +5d6, and give you access to the thief-y array of skills. You'll only get to 11 BAB though, which is really low for a melee oriented character.

Or you could follow nicethugbert's suggestion and cheat your way back to NG alignment. Up to you.

*6th level magic at (effective) Bard 16 requires Charisma 22. Which means 18 base and a Nymph's Cloak +4, for 1 sixth level spell a day. Your choice if it's worth it or not.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone!

I_Raps, I think even the big dose of chaos you suggested wouldn't bring my alignment down enough to go back (annoyingly from reaching 70 lawful, the alignment reset takes me to 85, and I'd need to go back down to 69) and I seem to be picking up lawful points from my conversations all the time unfortunately, so I'd have to purposely seek out all the instances where I could be chaotic. I guess I see my character as someone who follows the law most of the time, but isn't afraid to break it for something he feels strongly about, and under the nwn2 system it seems he's destined for LG.

nicethugbert, the console is a tempting option that I definitely have considered - but I think I want the challenge of trying to adapt to the situation the game has thrown at me.

DragonOfWhiteThunder - I think I'm going to do as you and Arkazeth have suggested and go with Eldritch Knight up to level 20. The Arcane Trickster route looks like it would have been fun, but alas it's non-lawful only.

Any suggestions for what I should do with my 10 epic levels when I get to MotB? My character is Human by the way.

I...can't believe I didn't notice that arcane trickster was non-lawful only. Sorry about that.

Well, I'd get the last two levels of EK as a definite thing, that ensures your Level 6 magic. From there, it's a question of Rogue vs. Fighter.

8 Levels of Rogue gets you 6 BAB (24 overall), Improved Uncanny Dodge, +5d6 Sneak, and a special ability or bonus feat, plus a bunch of skill points.

8 Levels of fighter gets you up to 26 BAB, and yields 4 bonus feats, as well as qualifying you for Weapon Specialization and Greater Weapon Focus. But it does give you an uneven number of fighter levels.

I guess it really comes down to which abilities you want. If that 6th attack is really important to you, you can take up to 2 Rogue levels and then stick the rest into Fighter. If you want Greater Weapon Focus (which does also qualify you for Epic Weapon Focus), you can take 1 Rogue Level for the extra skills and die of sneak damage. You'd have to take the Rogue level last to get Epic Weapon Focus, however, so it's a meh kind of solution. If you don't care about fighter goodies, just take Rogue, possibly going to Fighter 2 for the bonus feat.

So if you change from neutral to lawful, you gain 15 law points automatically? I didn't know that.

About epic: Beware of XP penalty. The easy answer is: Bard. But if you're still lawful, you can:

-Take levels in both Rogue and Fighter (no penalty if you do it correctly).

- 8 Fighter (Greater/Epic WF) or 12 Fighter (Greater/Epic WS). XP Penalty.

-10 Rogue (Epic Precision). XP Penalty.

Yeah, when you change alignment, it automatically sticks you into the middle range. So if I managed to drop below 70, it would automatically take me to 50. However I'm 89 now, so I don't see it happening sadly.

So after I've taken my 10 levels of Eldritch Knight, I'm going to have 8 levels left, and I'm going to assume I won't be able to take more in bard. Will I have to split my levels evenly between fighter and rogue to avoid an XP penalty, so that they're never more than 1 level apart?

Yes, that's the way to go if you want to avoid the penalty. Well, you don't need to take 10 EK levels, but that's probably the best thing you can do.

So you could end with something like: Bard 9/EK 10/Fighter 6/Rogue 5. You won't get the best feats, but you don't need them in the OC/MotB.

Or you can forget about EK and aim for something like Bard 9/Fighter 8/Rogue 10, getting Epic Precision. You'd have 3 more levels to play with, and no penalty. Take Feint or 1 Shadowdancer level in this case.
