I'm totally in agreement here too.  To compare futher, I've heard nothing but horror stories from friends that have beaten Halo: Reach on it's highest difficulty.  A war of attrition wasn't fun in World War I, and it's not any more fun in video games (inappropriate comparison, lawl).

Anybody that's complaining about ME 2 needs to try Halo Reach on legendary. I've beaten all the other halo games on legendary, but I just started a Reach campaign today on legendary and it's just ****ing retarded. I'm emptying multiple clips into guys just to get their sheilds down, then another to finish them off. Dudes are taking multiple sticky grenades to the face and surviving. This might be the first time I say to hell with it and just not bother with it.

It encompasses everything that's WRONG with what most games do on higher difficulties and makes ME 2's  rock, paper, scissors based insanity look that much better.

I'm sorry OP but it sounds to me like you're making excuses. Insanity was a cakewalk for me, I don't see how anyone can have so much trouble with it. And I'm pretty much the average gamer, I'm by no means a "gaming god". I do like a challenge though.

But yes, the AI of your squadmates is terrible. I always have to micromanage them if I want them to do something else instead of dying constantly.
Jack is also pretty bad on insanity, almost near useless...

- Pull Field on a 4-5 s cooldown (research and passive bonus)
- Squad Warp Ammo
- Even her Shockwave is useful on Insanity (much better than Shepard's)

She is pretty good and powerful. Plus a nice character hanging around with, I love some of her comments :)

Damn.  Coming from you, good sir, that is quite a statement.  I'm blown away, actually.  Well, looks like that's one achievement I won't even bother with! Image IPB

With Reach on Legendary, you should play it the "right way" or not at all.

You can put ten rounds from a pistol into a Grunt without killing it, but you can kill it with one pistol shot to the head.

Even more important on a Jackel. Shoot that shield for five minutes or shoot it's other arm to make it lower the shield, then put one round into it's head.

Elites are an unbelievable pain in the ass, but using the right weapon helps. Hit them with an overcharged plasma pistol bolt and you can instantly strip shields and then shoot them three times with the needle rifle, or six times with the needler, or a headshot with a human weapon.

I remember the first time i stuck a grenade to an elites face.

"HA! Got you, ****!"

~grenade explodes, Elite growls and kicks me in the face~

~respawn~

~stick Elite with two grenades this time~

"Ha! Got you b-"

There's hard and then there's insanity... I think BW couldn't have made the difficulty levels more obvious.

As for harder levels, L2P your class. There are tutorials on youtube and helpful guides here on the forums. The higher levels are meant to challenge you, they wouldn't be challenging if you could just sleep your way through it all.

If you are try to kill the YMIRS with the cain I recommend to it as low level as you can. If I recall correctly at level 10 on insanity one shot is enough to finish the mission. On level 30 one shoot won't even destroy all of their armor.

I am level 30 in Hardcore. For the Smuggling Depot I took Enhanced Stasis (I got the idea from the youtube video), the Cain, Garrus with Heavy Overload and Tungsten Ammo and Grunt with Heavy Fortification and Inferno Ammo. In the first try one shot was enough to finish the mission... Actually, I was too near of the the blast of the Cain and, well, you get the picture... I was a ****** (put the ashamed emoticon here). In the next try (the memories come to my mind like Thane Krios) :
- Fired the Cain from the top of the hill, before the YMIRS spreaded.
- Kaboom! A glorious explosion.
- Serious damage to enemies but still armored.
- Gave one mech to Garrus, other to Grunt and restrained the third one with Stasis.
- Helped my companions with sniper rifle.
- Three together finished the last one.
- Battle is over. Crates count 20/20.

My shortest mission Image IPB. Less than two minutes. However, there is an incongruency: A blast of that magnitude should have destroyed the cargo. I guess the game designers just ignored Newton and Einstein Image IPB. Seriously, besides the non destructible enviroment the scientist context of this game it's pretty convincing. Out off topic, I know Image IPB. My apologies

Elites are really the only ones causing me trouble because shields are really the only things that cause you problems. The unshielded guys are still plenty vulnerable to sniping as well as melee attacks but the elites were giving me fits.  Didn't know about the overloaded pistol shot to take down shields, that should come in handy.

Jacob and Samara also have pull, and most of my Sheps have warp ammo as a bonus. How is her shockwave useful on insanity?

Well, it does get enemies out of cover, so it is not completly useless if Jack burns her cooldown on that.

Warp Ammo isn't a very good bonus power, there are much better ones available. If I like to use it, I'll bring Jack.

Pull is only useful on unprotected enemies, Jacob can't do sh-t until defenses are gone - Samara has nothing to use on shields (the most common defense). Jack's Shockwave can be used until defenses are removed and her Pull can take over - Shockwave does stagger protected enemies, buying time to move around / cast powers / use weapons etc. Kronner already mentioned the cover thing. Not the best power around, but it does have its uses.

In reply with the OP, Horizon is easy if you take the defensive position on the right hand side as only a few husk spawn there and the board walk provides over.

But onto-what I think is the biggest problem in single player games- The enemy AI is so stupid its pitiful. So what do they do to increase the difficulty? just make them more powerful. Thats all good but when the lowest tier unit is stronger than you, you really have to question it. Its cool when they make it harder, but just making the enemy so strong they take your hole clip when they are low tier is just stupid.

I want a better AI not a immortal enemy

Try playing on insanity, all fun is sucked out of the game, no one cares for their life and your bullets don't work anyway.

Insanity is the only way to have some fun IMHO

I don't know what you mean by 'no one cares for their life' - I like to play like a suicidal maniac > more fun IMHO

Bullets are just fine on Insanity. The powerful Sniper Rifles and Shotguns can still one-shot 90% of all enemies.

I have died 2 times on insanity (me2) and I'm just past the collectors vessel. For people like me I have to play insanity to enjoy the game cause ill power through hardcore with out a death that wasn't my own stupid mistake-like running backwards into cover and not figuring out i have till I'm dead.

I personally feel that insanity is the way it should be played now, but a year ago when i just started mass effect 1 i would of told you hardcore is out of reach for me. The thing is insanity is fun for the people that can do it easily and hell for others like me when i started playing it.

With all that being said the AI i woeful and still needs help as i do notice everyone can take more bullets than me

Note: every time anyone brings up how hard insanity is someone comes in the thread to go on and on about how east it is. As if to invalidate the first posters experience.

Well, "Harder difficulty levels ruin the game" is not an absolute truth carved in stone.
It is an open discussion. Everybody is sharing their experiences with the game and those experiences don't have to be same. They aren't. Doesn't mean anything.
I haven't read ALL posts in this thread but I don't believe any of the regulars in this forum is trying to invalidate or disqualify somebody else's opinion.

There are plenty of guides here to use if you are having trouble. Or just lower the difficulty. No one says you have to play on Insanity.

Does anyone knows the stats modifiers for each difficulty level? I mean:

1) Enemies Health/Armor/Shields/Barriers/Resistances.

2) Enemies powers and regeneration.

3) Enemies AI/Strategy.

4) Enemies quantities and waves.

I wonder why I finish the missions faster in my second playthrough (Hardcore - Level 30) than in my first one (Veteran - From scratch). I think that the bosses are just the same in Veteran and Hardcore but with more powerful minions.

Player skill and good use of power can realy shorten the fight and save some few hour of gameplay at the end.
May be no matter the difficulty, you get better.

It took me about three days to beat the game on insanity with an ME1 import.

Harder difficulties are supposed to be hard. It may just be above your skill level.

Fighting the Praetorian on Horizon is relatively easy. Just circle around the stacked up crates. The Praetorian in the Collector vessel is much tougher.

The Praetorian on the Collector vessel is pretty easy as well if you know the tactics. Kill the spawns ASAP, then you are free to run in circles with that one as well. Making the AI run up and down the ramp constantly kinda trivialize the fight.
