After a year's worth of play, the only deaths I seem to suffer is not at anything especially dangerous, rather its the PESKY VORCHA PYRO that hides around the corner on the shutter section of Garrus' recruitment. hate that thing!

The Praetorian on the Collector vessel is pretty easy as well if you know the tactics. Kill the spawns ASAP, then you are free to run in circles with that one as well. Making the AI run up and down the ramp constantly kinda trivialize the fight.

or just use the cain  (does it one-shot him on insanity too? it does on hardcore).

Nah on insanity it knocks him to about 1/2 armor.  Still it saves a lot of time.

Especially if you time it right so it wipes out the Collectors and Husks as they come through the door.

I just take cover at the corner next to him, he'll fire a stream pointlessly into the air and miss, and then he's meat.

Best way I have found for that bugger, is to change my bonus power to inferno grenades just for that mission. Unless playing Infiltrator, then its just cloak and shotgun to the face.

Insanity does have a bit of a learning curve at first, but it actually becomes very do-able. I'm doing my first full insanity playthrough as a Soldier and at somewhere around the second round of recruitment missions things seem to get a little easier; probably due to upgrades. I've actually decided to avoid ever using the Mattock since it totally trivialises any difficulty.

Still, I had to triple check on Haestrom whether I was still on Insanity since myself, Zaeed and Garrus were shredding through Geth so easily. Team Disruptor and Overload paired with Avenger ARs and Incisors all round are plain deadly to the poor buggers.

However, since I'm typing this before doing the collector vessel and Reaper IFF missions, I suspect that egg and my face will come into alignment very shortly.

I used them too in Haelstrom with Concusive Blast Heavy Disruptor Ammo, Inferno Blast Grenade, Area Overload, Tungsten Ammo. Unstable Warp, Wide Singularity, Bastion and Enhanced Stasis for me. Piece of cake. I didn't even used a Heavy Weapon for the Geth Colossus, just my handgun...just kidding, my sniper rifle.

For the IFF I used Garrus and Jack (with Heavy Warp Ammo).

For the Suicide Mission, Samara's Area Reave and Mordin's Incineration Blast are very useful. Moreover, I brought Mordin with me to circumvent his tendency to die if left in the rear squad (another way is to use him as the crew's escort).

By the way, Mass Effect 2 is pretty easy if compared with others games like Oblivion and Dragon Age. In those games, there are no walls or crates to take cover.
