I seem to recall that the geth shotgun doesn't get a damage bonus at point-blank range. Is this correct? Can't seem to find where I saw it.

It does get the same point blank damage, just like all other shotguns.

I think he was basing it off of this Christina Norman quote

Basic fire with the Geth Plasma Shotgun delivers a payload with a much tighter spread, so it can be used quite effectively at range. The tradeoff is, you don't get the same stopping power at short range.

Yes, that's the one. Thanks.

I'm planning a CQC infiltrator run, where I'll be stealthing up to people and shotgunning them in the face. Does this mean that if I use the geth shotty, I don't need to get quite so up-close-and-personal?

If you take Kronner's word for it NOPE. You can get in close, but with the GPS you really don't have to. I'm working on an adept playthrough right now and I've been using it from range practically exclusively. It one shots defenses setting up EASY biotic combos without really needing a defense stripper in the party.

There is a trick where you can charge the GPS and activate Cloak and you can run around invisible with the weapon charged and when you fire the shot, Cloak doesn't break so you can fire another shot in this state.

I think OniGanon's Invasive Maneuvers videos show this off in his thread, and of course Kronner also uses it in his video.

Does that trick work with the Cain is you have upgraded your heavy weapon ammo to allow for 2 shots?

Stealthy double nuke. Gotta give it a try :D

Never tried the Cain with Cloak, don't think it'd work though just guessing. Would be awesomely overkill though if it does.

Indeed. Having 2 or 3 gps (jacob jack or tali) really adds to it, and I find myself just going *shoot-pull-shoot-pull-shoot-pull-elbow ( ^_^ )*.

While it is awesome. I don't like the GPS at all because of its firing mechanism seems to be shooting when you let go of the mouse button. I frequently die standing there wondering why the eff I didn't shoot the guy right in front of me. I just can't get used to it. Still it strips shields at absurd range in a single shot, if you charge it its damage is unbeatable etc. And yes my observations are that it does extra damage at point blank range.

My guess about Normans comment is that with only 3 shells it has less bonus damage from extra shells hitting at point blank range. I forget the formula, but I think the primary hit does 100% damage and each extra pellet does like 25% damage, so an 8 shell projectile which hits at pointblank gets 100% on 1st shell and an extra 175% damage from the next 7 shells. The GPS is 100% +50%, but all weapons get the I think double damage bonus at point blank. The GPS's base damage is so high though that I think it compensates for its lack of 5 more shells hitting.

it's got 5 shells, charged shots take 2 at once.

Yeah I kept typing shells when I meant pellets.  It fires 3 pellets not 8 at once like the rest of the shotguns.  I do not know how charged shot interacts with the pellets, whether now it is 6 pellets or just souped up 3 pellets.  I think it is 3 though.  This effects damage to some degree but also the effect of ammor powers like cryp, 3 chances to freeze instead of 8 for exmaple.
