@Upsettingshorts: You're not the only one who appreciates what Meer does.

And urgh. Hale. /shakes head. Whenever I hear people going on about how great she is I wonder if there's something wrong with my hearing. Her VO is just terrible to me.

On the OP note: A male protoganist will almost always be more popular than a female protagonist. So yes that's why you see the constant "he."

Frankly I don't see the issue with it. It's only when you get morons claiming that FemShep isn't canon that it get's facepalm worthy.

DudeHawke and DudeShep = BW's Ronald McDonald.

...

When I think about it that way, I kind of hope they never show LadyHawke and femShep in ads. :P

I think it will be like that, yes. After all there are more male players and they play mostly males..:wizard:
But I think its a pity than FemHawke looks really beautiful..and better than the male I think :crying:

Indeed. I have heard most when I play. Unfortunately girls are more or less required to play with a group they know are not idiots, without a mic or take the inevitable comments.

AlexXIV wrote...

Just makes me think, My gf also plays, even not as much as I. But I am always buying the games, sometimes we buy them together.. Anyway, if girls would buy more games as in opposite to wait until their bf buys them, then marketing would consider them more? I mean there is always the talk about who plays, but I guess marketing is more interested in who buys.

Girls will become a marketing target the moment there exists statistics to support it worthwhile to do so. Presently, the ratio between men and women in the gaming community is simply far too one-sided to warrant the extra cost. Be thankful Femshep or Hawke have not been subjected to the fanservice angles Samus has endured. Frankly, I am surprised it has not happened.

So in theory, you are correct. Simply put, girls need to purchase more games to force companies to market towards them and not in the horrid baby game things Ubisoft has been tossing out.

Not even Ronald McDonald can escape fanservice ;)

Honestly? I never noticed the consistency. Not because I chose not to, but because I rarely play a Paragade or Renegon. I get why you like him a bit more now, though. It doesn't change my opinion, but at least it makes a bit more sense.

Jennifer Hale overacts. It isn't noticeable most of the time (though I think part of the romance with Jacob is precisely the result of that sort of overactng) but her paragon speaks like she is driven by a constant need to hug everyone as if they were a puppy and her renegade is 30% psychopath.

So if you (for example) pick a paragon line and then a renegade line, Meer sounds like he's gotten pissed off in a hurry, while Hale sounds like she fumbled her meds.

I'm embelishing a little, but I feel the same way Shorts does and it bothers me that Meer gets so very little credit for what he tries to do.

I guess whatever floats your boat. When I played male paragon, his delivery of everything was just so bland I was constantly bored. Maybe renegade just has better lines in the first place, but I enjoyed the female playthrough so much more. I never romanced Jacob and can't comment, and I did pick a number of neutral choices in ME2, so maybe that affects my opinion on her?

I can only assume FemHawke will be tossed aside as an afterthought like FemShep.

Reading through these forums for starters, I'd say that FemShep is totally not tossed aside. She just doesn't end up in the posters and whatnot and personally, I don't really care.

As long as we (FemSheps / FemHawkes that is) get the same treatment on the romances and such, I'm not bothered. Hell, I even feel more blessed being female while playing ME1 & ME2 cos' of Kaidan.

Ah, but it's a space opera.  Overacting is de rigueur.  MaleShep usually sounds like he couldn't care less unless you're going Renegade.  FemShep nearly always comes across as caring a great deal (even about very minor things).  That worked for me.

Well only thing that is argueably about female Shepard having it worse is that she gets 3 alien LIs in ME2. Jacob, Garrus and Thane.

I don't get the connection, but I still listened to the whole thing because Ennio Morricone is the man.

Watch this.

I can't.  Whatever that beat is in the background makes it too annoying to watch more than a few seconds.  Besides, if it's really that bad it doesn't need a parody; it should speak for itself.  Got another link?

Also, I had a hard time with playing paragon because it was too much Captain America, rainbows, and unicorn farts.  Maybe the problem is I just didn't like paragon and I played it as a male.

Can't find the dialogue in general where it almost looks like FemShep is about to sexually assault Jacob but you can just watch the romance scene.

There's another parody here, might be easier to listen to.

Maybe she considers The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly a failure.  It's pretty unthinkable that she could consider ANY Clint Eastwood movie a failure, but you never know.

You think it's a bad idea to try to make the character sound consistent?

I prefer Meer's paragon delivery to Hale's. She acts like she wants to hug the world most of the time. To me it sounds very casual, which is what I like about it.

Jacob is... sexual harrasment. There's no other way to put it. "But the priize" is terrible dialogue on his part, but Shepard just talking to Jacob sounds like she wants to strip him naked and assault him in the weapons room.

The bold is what bothers me about the VO. Regenade Meer Shepard is just, well, angry about things. I don't think care is the right word.

Speaking of consistency, I wonder how DA2 will handle this. With 3 personality types, I hope we have a Hawke that sounds mentally stable.

What would have been wrong with making them different? It is a male one time and a female the other. They are supposed to be different, no? I don't know what exactly is the point of making them consistent. Of course they need to fit the same answers from the people they talk with, but that doesn't mean they need to sound exactly the same just a few pitches deeper.
