hur hur hur. Where is azn shepard where is black shepard?
the trailers are misleading me, How am I supposed to know that shepard can be customized?

As part of a racial minority group, I feel left out

I refer to my Shepard as "he" because he is male. I refer to my Grey Warden as "he" because he is male. It has nothing to do with how Dragon Age and Mass Effect are marketed.

It's the industry, not Bioware. But I have no reason to complain, being multi cultured and not really feeling that I belong to any culture or race at all.

It depends of what gender the player chooses.

Personally, I think that calling Hawke a "he" is easier than typing he/she all the time.

DudeShep doesn't exist in my world, so I pretty much ignore everything that involves him advertising wise. He kind of creeps me out, so Shepard has always been and will always be "she" for me. I'm annoyed that the marketeers seem to think that allowing her to grace the cover of the game/advertising posters/commercials would scare the demographic away, but I can't be too mad about it because at least we have her and she's not just a throw away option. And LadyHawke is already shaping up to be a fantastic character, and she has a bit more love from the marketeers than Shepard does, so there's still hope.

It's true that you can't please to everyone. You will always find someone that is displease by your content. But since I'm used to Bioware games, I know I can probably play as a female character, even if the box cover and publicities has been made with male characters.



It's true that I would like advertising with female characters that aren't just eye candy for male gamers. But I'm sure that dual gender publicities wouldn't have a bad impact on their sales, it could even bring them more female gamers.



As for the racial issues, I'm for racial diversity too. I'm asian and I would like to see an asian looking lead. But I know it won't happen because this game primary market are North-America and Europe and the demographic is speaking by itself. But should a black lead would make poor sales game ? I don't think so, Grand Theft Auto San Andrea has a black lead and the sales were good. I think the ethnicity has nothing to do with the number of sales. Bioware's Jade Empire sold well too, and all the playable characters were asians ( I wish for a Jade Empire 2).



After all, people shouldn't care about the advertising itself, but the content of the game. And maybe Bioware should show in their advertising all the customization you can do in the game.

Well I am gettnig DA2 signiture edition no matter the advertising, but my First Hawke will be a female Warrior, like my first warden was a Human Noble Female Warrior, in ME I don't think I have played through it at all with a Male Shep. so in my Eyes Hawke will be female, the Warden is female and Commander Shephard is Female, I could be missing part of the story because I have not done the male characters, but I don't think I am missing much.  Just as long as I have the option to choose my heroes gender I am happy.

Errr...will she be hugely popular with the fanbase despite not being the sole focus of the marketing campaign? Will gamers of both genders commend her for kicking ass in such a believable fashion? Will she be voiced by an immensely popular and talented voice actress? Will she be generally lauded as a positive and kick-ass female role model in a hugely popular game franchise?

Oh, woe! Let's hope FemHawke never dares to suffer such a fate!

Oh now I understand what the discussion is about... It takes a little time because of my bad english (i am from austria) and because of the differenz between the english and the german language...
In the german language we have 2 different words for "the": "die" and "der" (female and male)
When they talk about "the (female) warden" they say "he", it would be grammatically incorrect to say "she"...
Oh Moment... But why do they say "der wächter" and not "die wächterin"... You are right, thats politically incorrect...

I see people using female pronounds for femshep and LadyHawke quite a bit actually. And I see some he/her. I don't think the OP is corect, atleast not on this forum.
