I always found Quarian hate stupid.
I mean it's like hating Germans because of Hitler, only this is even more pathetic reason to hate them.

One slight problem with this analogy. Hitlers SS army is not currently killing and maiming the intergalactic seat of government, waging active (by active I mean full on armies) war against the Alliance, allying with an ancient and nigh unstoppable genocidal war machines, turning living people into "husks" and generally causing quite a mess.

The Quarians deserve some amnesty, but its hard to raise popular opinion, when that mistake you made thousands of years ago is still haunting, and harassing the civilizations of the Galaxy.

Can you imagine somebody putting "not hiring *insert ethnic or race*" sign in democratic 1st and 2nd world countries without controversy all over world?

And the complete opposite is what "only hiring " "insert ethnic race"..... is already done today and we've seen how that works.

both extremes aren't good... quarians are nice species whoever created them went into a great deal of trouble to make their history... very nice.

Still it makes Council big douches to allow it. Also you are a douche for punishing race becouse of it's past.
Also I still don't get it why Turians ain't hated. I mean really Saren is responsible for Eden Prime, Feros and Citadel attacks. Not only that they aren't hated, one racist politician turian ****** is most popular in Ward no matter did you or did you not save the Council, humans are also hated too. HYPOCRITES!

Kinda sounds like with Council letting Krogans to kill of Rachni that lead Saren to get location of Mu Relay from Rachni Queen. What hypocrites.

Because the Council suck and didn't bother helping the Quarians with the Geth before it was too late. That's why.

Well Saren was just one Turian. The Turians as a whole turned against him at the same time the other Council races did so there would be no real reason to blame the Turians especially not when the Citadel attack ended up killing more Turians than any other race. Even if the Council was saved only about 500 humans died in the attack versus one or two thousand Turians.

The Turians have for better or worse gained a place where they've saved the Council from the Krogan and have continued to be the peace keepers of the galaxy for thousands of years.

But now I'm getting off topic. Another reason why the Quarians are hates is because their Flotila is a moving locust that consumes all resources that they see on a planet and then leave. They contribute nothing to galaxtic society so there's no big incentive to not hate Quarians.

You need to pay more attention to the Codex:

As the fleet passes through the a system, swarms of mining vessels work over asteroids for metals and siliceous materials and cometary bodies for water ice and organics. Quarian miners are adept at locating and strip-mining space-borne resources. This sparks conflict with corporations already working the system. Large mining concerns spend millions on lobbyists and public relations portraying the quarians as locusts, devouring the resources of a system before moving on.

The greatest asset of the quarians is their rarefied skills. Most are experienced miners. Due to their life of perpetual salvage and repair, they are skilled engineers and technicians. More than once, the very corporations that lobby against the quarians have made back room deals with the Fleet, arranging for skilled quarians to fill space engineering jobs that other species would demand higher wages for. Quarians are widely hated among the working classes. "The quarians are coming to take our jobs" is a common response to the Fleet's approach.

i am for peace between geth and the quarians...if they could get along they would probably be the most powerful force in the known Galaxy...ok...that might cause some trouble with the Council...but still

Well this is hard to happen as long as we have people like Tali and her father...who believe war with the geth is the only solution or like Admiral Xen who wants to reenslave them .

The war was 300 years ago...now with the Reapers attacking it's the perfect time for peace

Wrong. If you save the council, you lose a few thousand human lives, not five-hundred.

To OP. They are also a part of the homeless, desperate and poor people of the galaxy. Average galactic Joe doesn't like to be reminded of the fact that such things exist. Also the fact that they are weak makes them an easy target for leaders looking for someone to blame things on.

Poor writing by Bioware in that every single Quarian you encounter is more or less "good". Aside from maybe crazy geth lover admiral.

We've had evil/crazy/mercenary turians, humans, salarians, krogans, krogans, vorcha, volus and even hanar annoying people on the citadel. When have you seen a Quarian doing anything annoying?

They hate them because Quarians are morons. They attempted genocide of a sapient race and failed. The Battlestar Galactica reference is just garbage when you have a galaxy of peaceful aliens and the Cylons dont actually want to kill you...

Quarians are far from being moronic.  They have their faults just like the rest.  But they are not stupid.

They're trying to re-fight a war they lost when everything was in their favor, against an opponent that's exponentially more numerous and powerful than it was when it handed them their asses...

...that's pretty stupid.

The novels, iirc. Also there's a mention of a quarian serial killer or something among Garrus' kills in his SB dossier.

Because of old grudges? The made the Geth and then tried to kill them, then they walked away from the Council when they wouldn't get any assistance. Do you know why they wouldn't get any help? Because the Council deemed it illegal to make AI to avoid situations like the ones with the Geth.

Granted they are better minded now but they are a species to consumes to much and doesn't produce anything for any other species in the Galaxy. The hatred for them is based on old bias. The general dislike of them stems from their consumption of resources. It's really as simple as that.

Im explaining that there is a reason why quarians are prejudiced against but this isn't reflected in the game because it casts all quarians as good.

What I find, let's say "not quite intelligent", is people somehow failing to notice that they're not actually doing that.  What they're really doing is what they've been doing for 300 years: subsisting, traveling the galaxy, going on Pilgramage, raising families, repairing ships, asteroid mining, so on, so forth, ad nauseum.

Some of their leadership is making noises about a war.  Other parts of their leadership are opposed to that.  For almost everyone else in the Migrant Fleet, we have no knowledge about their thoughts on the subject.  Odds are very, very high that opinion is divided and many are entirely undecided.  And yet people insist on talking about quarians as if they were some undifferentiated, monolithic entity.  Kinda silly.

Great thread! A new conversation. I still want to know why they don't share their porn so we can all see what they look like...

On topic, I like the idea that they're well educated cheep labor and are essentially a cross between a self loathing mongol horde and graduate students.

Agree for the most part.

1.There strip mining and general homless standing is not well looked apon.

2.Not being able to look people face to face might be fround apon by any number of races (makes you look like you got something to hide).

3.Not being as numerous in most areas make them always seem like outsiders (theres nearly a million humans on omaga bet there arent 10000 quarians).

4.People here dont like gypsies travelers the general thing is there thought of as all being theaves its an awful stereotype as then no one will hire you and then you do have to steal to get by its harsh.

Quarians though for there part dont mix they dont take many people of any race back to the flotila so total outsiders and as they move around they dont get into the normal frendly neigbor situation.

Its very disconceting for a system goverment haveing 50000 extra ships in system when you can maybe keep tabs on a few hundred.

The Quarians didnt losse there imune systems over night if they had colonised a planet in the first year of two after getting booted out of there own system they wouldnt have this problem so the geth the fact the stuck wondering its all there own doing but its not the current generations fault tough brakes for tali.

EDIT
Something i just thought of or maybe just remember i thought of
Most of quarians
you meet are young freindly youths on pilgramige the quarians they come and go the ones the galaxy gets stuck with are the outcasts thieves murders malcontents and all there other garbage bet that doesnt do much for there galactic image.

Its not that different from real world animosities between nationalities. The Quarians did something 300 years ago that was an absolute no no by galactic standards that left a stain on their reputation. As respected as the Quarians may of been when they were with the council 300 years of constantly moving, going into other races territories, taking resources, etc. has cast them into a bad light with the rest of the galaxy. I'm not a sympathizer but its understandable why the other races of the galaxy, especially long lived ones who were around when it all happened, still hold Quarian today accountable for the mistakes of their ancestors.

Yeah. Imagine how bloody scary it must have been at the time. It was something like the rise of the Terminators in real life. Such things are hard to forget, even if the responsible quarians are dead.

The problem with that is, the geth never attacked anyone except the quarians, who they nearly wiped out. Everyone else? Just fine.  They never made moves outside of the former quarian territory.  They didn't like people coming in, but that's a very different thing.

All the Quarians I have met have been quite nice and civil, so it's not there personalities at question, unless you just love to hate. Unfortunately the modern Quarians have to pay the price for their ancestors creation: Geth. The Geth nearly wiped out the Quarians so it would seem natural that the Quarians want there Home World back as they probably feel it is rightfully theirs and can undo the Geth mistake in the process. Well, at least help.

Of course, this is speculation as is much of this thread.

Quarians really need to put their foot down and do something, playing the victim isn't going to save their race, neither is trying to reignite a war they already lost once for the sake of racial pride.

Also, it's about time the council extends the olive branch  just give the quarians a world and get it over with. They'd save themselves a lot of headaches in the end.

The quarians would need to do it properly this time though, not try to weasel their way through the system again, they did it once with the Geth and then again by 'stealing' a planet which got them evicted.

Quarians are a failing species. Nobody likes a failing element taking up space. So they are hated.
