Quarians are a failing species. Nobody likes a failing element taking up space. So they are hated.

Problem: they're not "failing".  Not if you're talking in terms of extinction.   Other problem: not all that many people in ME seem to be overly reductive Social Darwinists, so that explanation doesn't actually explain much.

I seem to remember something in-game being said about the Migrant Fleet dumping their criminals on whatever world they are near in exile because they don't have the ability to form a prison on the Flotilla. Thusly, every Quarian most people meet that aren't on pilgrimage are criminals.

Poor writing by Bioware in that every single Quarian you encounter is more or less "good". Aside from maybe crazy geth lover admiral.

We've had evil/crazy/mercenary turians, humans, salarians, krogans, krogans, vorcha, volus and even hanar annoying people on the citadel. When have you seen a Quarian doing anything annoying?

I don't know about you but I wanted to smack Prazza and his crew on Freedom's Progress upside their heads. Fortunately they decided to be complete jerks, ignored the plan to cooperate and ran ahead to get themselves offed by a YMIR.

The crazed survivor on Freedom's Progress (can't remember his name) was kind of annoying, but he had an excuse. He's still not someone I would want to hang out with.

The "Valley Girl" quarian on Illium ranked pretty high on my annoy-o-meter.

The only other encounters I can think of other than Tali and while on her loyalty mission are all merely inoffensive: The quarian on the citadel accused of thievery, the one that got strong armed by the merchant on Omega, and the one who got herself sold into slavery on Illium. I felt sorry for them more than anything else.

If the quarians have an image issue it's that they're routinely portrayed as victims or sad sacks, not as universally good or virtuous, other than Tali or Kal'Reegar. And that's just two out of the whole lot.

Codex:

Persistent recidivists are "accidentally" left on the next habitable world. This practice of abandoning criminals on other people's planets is a point of friction between the quarians and the systems they pass through. Captains rarely have another choice; with space and resources at a premium, supporting a non-productive prison population is not an option.

If you've read Ascension and know what Cerberus did on the Migrant Fleet,  the initial attitude should only be expected.  Still idiots though.

They are failing. The migrant fleet can only go so far. Without migrant fleet they can't live without burdening other species. Other species don't benefit from their existance so they instinctively hate them. You don't need to be social darwinist to hate parasites.

Thank you.  Are we the only ones who didn't miss this bit?  This is a solid answer to this debate, yet people continue to argue about other things.  Yay, internet!  >_>;

It's because they are narrowminded, much like every european and american. The quarians should be welcome by every other species for their culture and tech skills but because they have, what you people like to call "family bonds", bonds that actually contain family, people can't stand their off-beingness. Don't like the Council for that one reason. (and for wiping out the rachni)

The Council didn't do that anyway.  The krogan did that on their own, because, as it turned out, they were krogan.

It's OK.   The argument, or rather the bizarre non-sequitur, can't really be helped anyway.

Except from what I've seen not alot of quarians go outside the fleet except those on pilgrimage and criminals. Therefore a lot of species would be cautious of them not welcoming because they're either a criminal or someone tring to help their species.

PS Every european and american? You havent met me so you dont know if I'm narrowminded.

This.

It's hard to descibe if you are not familar with the culture but it's more or less the same as saying why do so many people 'Hate' gypsies. There are certain 'stereotypes' associated with gypsy culture, alot of them are true but at the same time alot of them are also false ( ie like most societies you have good people and bad people ).

The Quarian dilema is a bit more complicated in that they have gained a certain reputation and yet most of the quarians that we have encountered in the games and the books are in fact upstanding citizens, hard working people and in general honest folk.  Still, it does not changed the fact that most people see Quarian's as scavengers or as a race of people asking for a hand out ( I personally have never seen a Quarian beg for anything but that is how the culture is percived ).

The 3 fingers and the 3 toes combined with their containment suits ( not to mention the fact you can never see thier faces ) probably hasn't helped how other cultures percive them, people in general are naturally suspicious when dealing with others who wear masks all the time. Add to that the fact that they created the Geth ( as a slave race ) and it's not to hard to understand why some people treat  the Quarians the way they do.

Because their immune systems are weaker than that of a gay ethiopian. We can only assume that they all have AIDS.

Don't judge me; judge the quarians and their filthy "environment-sharing".

You know, there are 17 million Quarians on the Flotilla. Thats it, their entire species comes down to 17 million people. That is one half the population of California. That is about two New York Cities...

There simply is no excuse for them to not of found a colony. They have the resources and manpower to colonize any planet they want in only a couple of years, and they choose not to. All to perpetuate this Battlestar Galactica ripoff...
