NON Signature Edition on Steam?

Now that we know that the Signature Edition, unfortunately, won't be available through Steam, can someone from Bioware please confirm whether a non Signature Edition of DA2 will eventually come to Steam?

I'd like to know this before the 11th of January because, if DA2 won't come to Steam at all, I'd like to quickly pre-order a Signature Edition disc while I still can! But if it is known that it will come to Steam further down the track, I'll probably forego the Signature Edition and wait for a Steam version.

And while I'm asking this, I'll ask one more quick question, even though it's probably too early to be asking such things: are there plans for a DA2 Ultimate Edition (on Steam :P)?

Personally I imagine some version will show up there as soon as the bean counters figure they'll make more money by having it on Steam than not. It's possible that Steam wasn't willing to pay their asking price for it - just a thought. Since Steam virtually monopolizes the digital download industry that is a possibility.

Just as likely, though, is that the publisher is going to wait til they figure a large enough amount of people have purchased it elsewhere (other stores remaining unnamed), and then it'll show up on Steam. Then a set amount of time later they'll start dropping rumors about an Awakening-grade expansion for DAII.

If you recall, the Steam version of Awakening required the Steam version of Origins. So everyone who picked it up elsewhere could end up being forced to buy from someone other than Steam.

But it'll show up there eventually... heck, even the infomercial stuff on TV eventually finds its way to Wal Mart.

Why wouldnt DA2 be on steam?...You can purchase every single "big" title of the recent years on steam. I dont see any slight chance that DA2 wont be available on steam.

I understand why you feel so certain, because, until recently, I felt just as certain that the Signature Edition would be on Steam . . . but it's not. So now I wouldn't be too surprised if DA2 won't be on Steam at all. Some clarification from Bioware staff would be useful and keep us from guessing.

Re every big title of recent years being on Steam, how about StarCraft 2? Bioware might be doing a Blizzard.

it will be eventually when EA realizes how many sales they've lost.

The only clarification you'll get is a lockdown from Priestly once someone mentions that buying from EA Store means you can only download the game for a year; after one year is up, if you want to download the game again you have to purchase it again.

Well, then it's a good thing the EA store is not the only place to buy it from then.

I bought my game in Play-Asia. There is written Signature Edition (U.S.).

It is certain that this edition and not the other?

Why would you buy from steam for 60$? When impulse is selling it for less.

You wouldn't. You can't. Steam isn't selling it at all.

Except that other "big" EA titles (example: The Sims 3, yes it was a big deal) aren't on Steam, but are available at Impulse.  So, there's a chance DA2 won't be either.

I will pre-order my copy if/when it appears on Steam. I will not elect to choose another form of Digital Distribution service. Steam, over the years, has gained my loyalty through their excellent customer service and support. As such, Steam is the only Digital Distribution service that I will choose to pre-order products through.

It is disappointing that BioWare has entered into an agreement, through their EA partnership, to limit which distributors can sell enhanced content. This act, in general, of allowing exclusives via different retailers is a ridiculous practice, and one I am sad to see BioWare engaging in.

I'd like to know too because I was waiting to preorder on Steam as well.

Some people in the other thread seem sure that it's just the Signature Edition that Steam users are missing out on, but with no response to this thread, I'm starting to worry whether DA2 will be on Steam full stop.

C'mon Bioware, let us know what's going on. Or at least let us know when you can let us know. Pleeease?

I wouldn't count on them responding, they've shown no interest thus far. If you want a digital Signature edition you better grab it off D2D or Impulse in the next week before the free upgrade offer expires.

1. BioWare doesn't handle distribution. EA does. I'd suggest that Steam users start a group and then lobby EA directly for the game.

2. We're not going to get an answer from until after the SE end date - the 11th - passes. I think it's very likely that at some point, some version of the game will appear on Steam, but there's no way to be sure.

Yes, you can download it for one year. After one year, you have to buy it again. Just as I said. Now if you think I'm wrong, please post their updated terms where they've removed the download sunset clause.

EA sets the recommended retail price and has to keep it by law. Other retailers however are free to loose some of their profit and sell the game for less.
As for why EA does not sell the SE on steam. One of EA´s stated goals is to include social/muliplayer components like the BSN in all their games to increase the life span of their games (and have more time selling DLC). Steam already comes with it´s own community service and anyone buying DA2 from steam is more likely to remain loyal to steam than to EA´s own services and so having more than minimum support for steam is contradictory to that aim.

You can download your game at least a year. The possibility of downloading does not end after the year the guarantee that the download is available ends. (Steam is actually worse because they do not give you a guarantied minimum time during which your game will be available for download or even just being played.)
