Hey, some positive thinking.

Life can be very frustrating sometimes, but once, I read a post in another forum, with a woman telling what life had taught her.

Here is what she said,
Please, note that I don't necessarily agree with everything, especially in the sentences concerning God (I do not wish to open some religious debate here), but I love the spirit of this text overall.

Written By Regina Brett.

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. [...]

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone...
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion, Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone and everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give it time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

I often read these when I'm worried, and it often helps.

And you what do you think, what positive thinking can you bring here?

Or just react on her statements, if you need to destroy some positive thinking

Positive thinking:

Telling yourself that "it could be worse". Seriously, it works. :P

Suck it up is not really that positive, or you'll explode one day (tested and approved). Life is often easier when you assume your responsibilities and your faults, and when you don't assume these of others. Even if its family.

Most of the time sure. I remember once when having an exam, and I learned that very morning that USA had begun war in Iraq (first day of the attack). Definitly made me think there was worse in life than this particular exam...

I’m a firm believer in sincerity, if not honesty. When I find a positive thought to post, I’ll post it. I won’t fall back on muttering about butterflies and rainbows, or pulling quotes from the internet because I can’t manage something on my own.

Unicorns were considered fierce and lethal creatures. They're only depicted as gentle around virgins.

Hum, sure, it's hard to think of what life taught you, and what positive experience can be extracted from it.

I think I've seen much already, concerning pain and abuse, and that's why the quotes in first post made me react.
My own positive statement would be to ultimately believe in yourself, and in your will. My life is so much better now that I allow myself to disagree, scream my pain at the responsibles, and simply enjoy the rest.

Just for the heck of it, reactions to the statements:
Purple Lady wrote...

"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. [...]

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
It sounds nice, but you have to be careful you're not deluding yourself. Some people have it really bad when life isn't being fair to them.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
Warning: this advice is potentially deadly. The next step can be a pitfall. When in doubt, think carefully before you act - and do not be afraid to ask for help or advice if you need it. Many people out their like to help other people, like you. It makes them feel good.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone...
Life is not short, it is long enough to do whatever you need. But I agree that time spent hating is wasted time.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
Depressing advice to orphans with no friends.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
Better yet: get rid of that credit card so you never get any credit card debts to begin with. Debit cards are so much safer.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
That's the easy way out. If you have time, keep on trying to understand eachother until you find something you can agree on - which may be an argument neither of you started out with.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
At the same time, it also burdens others with your pain. Cry only of those who are willing to share your burdens.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
It's not OK to get angry. Everything has a purpose, so it's better to be thankful for the lessons learned rather than angry. Being angry is like grasping a glowing coal to throw at someone: you are the one getting burned.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.
Check with your government first. To see whether it's necessary.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
Resistance can be trained. It really helps against obesity to be able to resist food - particularly food as colorie-rich as chocolate. Of course, you can still enjoy chocolate, but moderation is very healthy.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
There is no past or future, only the present. Live now.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
If your children see you cry it may truamatise them, especially if there's no clear reason.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
You can learn a lot by learning about other people's journey's. Just don't lose sight of your own while learning about theirs.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
This really depends on the circumstances. If you live amongst racists, you *should* be in a relationship with someone from another race. It is the path to change, even if it has to remain secret at first.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.
How would she know? Has she seen God?
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
Meditate. It calms the mind even more.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
Hang on to everything that may be useful later.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
This really depends on the situation. Some people get broken by adversity, or are left disabled from physical injuries. That hardly qualifies as stronger. But those who adapt and cope with the situation, those do become stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
If you want a second childhood, have it responsibly.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
Stalking people is very naughty.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion, Today is special.
If every day is special, the special becomes ordinary. It's better to let the special remain special, so it really feels better when it happens.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
But keep your eyes open. The flow may not always take you to where you want to go.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.
But mind the occasion. Eccentric doesn't work well in a business setting. Except if you're the boss, but that's something else entirely.
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
Just remember that direct stimulation of the brain with electrodes is dangerous. Do not try to improve your sex life through brain surgery.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
...but others are able to have a large influence. Life deals you the cards (which may be very bad cards), and you get to decide how to play them. You do not get to choose which cards you get dealt. The important thing is, though, to remember that you have a choice in how you play them.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
Why get distracted by the future, when there is only the now? Just do what feels right when disaster happens, and do not worry about it later.
27. Always choose life.
Except when death is really preferable. If your suffering is unbearable with no hope of relief, death is worth considering.
28. Forgive everyone and everything.
But do not forget.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
But it really helps if people like you. Just remember that not everyone has to like you and that, no matter what people think of you, you're still you.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give it time.
But do not be afraid to seek professional help if you have the feeling that time alone is not enough.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
Change is part of life.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
But don't make light of really important things, either.
33. Believe in miracles.
But don't forget to act towards their realisation. You never get something for nothing.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
But just because he loves you doesn't mean he'll protect you from harm.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
A lot can be accomplished by being at the right place at the right time.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
Still, there is something to be said for quality of life over quantity of life. What good does living long do when you don't have fun doing it?
37. Your children get only one childhood.
As children. They'll begin their second childhood without your help. (see 19)
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
And what you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
Everywhere includes inside. Sometimes miracles hide in plain sight.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
Even though it'd be more efficient to share your problems with those who have similar problems, and find the solution together. Sharing your problems gives other people the opportunity to offer advice that may help you.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
Except if you have less than the 1st level of Maslow's pyramid. Some things you really do need to survive.
42. The best is yet to come.
Maybe, maybe not. It's possible, but the chance decreases as you get older. Enjoy the memories of the best so far while you wait to see whether it'll be surpassed.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
And infect everyone else with the disease you're carrying. :?

Really, sometimes it's better to stay home - it's safer for other people.
44. Yield.
If it fits the situation. When pursuing your hopes and dreams, it is better not to give up.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."
So be thankful of being alive, and make the most of this life.

:)

I'm not good at inspirational quotes, I usually just watch cute crap on youtube to feel better about life, haha.
