Hi guys,
I'm using Leliana as my ranged rogue, but I'm having trouble setting her tactics.
Right now, I want her to rely primarily on her bow, but to switch to her melee weapons if she comes under melee attack. To do this (I'm using advanced tactics, btw), I've set her tactics as follows:
1. Self --> Health<30% --> Use least powerful health poultice
2. Self --> Not under melee attack --> Switch to ranged weapon
3. Self --> Using ranged attack --> Activate Supressing Fire
4. Self --> Under melee attack --> Switch to melee weapon
5. Self --> Using melee attack --> Activate dual striking
However, I' noticing that, while Leliana does use ranged weapon primarily, she gets stuck in a loop of weapon switching when she comes under melee attack. Basically, she'll take out her daggers, and then immediately switch back to her bow, and repeat. What is causing this loop?
Thanks!
Tactics for Leliana (ranged rogue)

I can think of 2 things, but I've never used that mod or have any NPC's switch weapons without me telling them to do so.
But my guess is that she is either under attack from both melee and ranged weapons or you have her set to ranged and that somehow messes it up.

Maybe you have her set to the "ranged" behavior, which automatically has characters use a ranged weapon. That's what I'd do in any case. The default behavior will basically do what you're wanting, except it won't switch back to ranged. I think one of your behaviors (top right dropdown) is interfering with your tactics.
With "melee archer" there's not much need to switch, though. Also, dual striking isn't really worth using--it is bugged and causes you to miss a lot. It's only worth getting for Riposte.

Why bother using daggers, anyway?
After taking the Melee Archer talent, is there a downside to using a bow in melee?

Leilana is a poor archer unless you Cun build her and even then you can get good reseults from making her a duel wield Cun rogue.
But you can certainly build a tactic tree once you have alot of tactic slots. You need to order her command list correctly and to react correctly this will include some "if this = that go to tactic X" kind of commands. It is really not needed since she is better off focusing either as a Cun build Bard/Assassin with duel wield only or a cun buidl Archer setup for auto crit. Dex Leilana is the best plan.

I've always had an issue with this when I use any "Self --> Under melee attack" tactics with my ranged fighters. The best I can figure that is happening is that once a character is targeted by an enemy regardless of their proximity, the character switches weapon sets. So, an enemy on the other side of the battle could be headed towards Leliana to do a melee attack and all of sudden she'll switch weapon sets as if the enemy is on her already. Then, possibly an archer is also targeting Leliana at the same time; so, she'll switch back and forth because she is being attacked by more than one type of attack.
So, I now manually switch her if I feel it is necessary.

arrows of slaying? I have that in my tactics because its too good a talent not use as much as possible. Have her clean out minions in a fight while you concentrate on bosses with the tanks. That way she doesn't even draw too much aggro as she is one-shotting all the little annoying enemies.

Like the others here have said, she's probably being attacked by both melee and ranged (which includes spells). Also consider that her melee skills may be cooling down and are therefore, unavailable for her to use whereas her ranged skills are available - maybe that's why she's switching back and forth.

I have set her tactics right now based
1. enemy armor between medium and heavy --> shattering shot
2. enermy location short --> activate Defensive Fire
3. enemy location short --> Pinning Shot
4. enemy location between shoft and medium--> Aim
5. enemy location between short and medium --> Crippling Shot
Still thinking about removing that Aim, and doing that manually or something (or wait for more tactics points), since I also wanted to add Critical Shot on medium/heavy armor.
