indeed it sometimes feels on here like The Reapers are the subplot behind Shepard and his/her...ahem Adventure of Luurrrve Image IPB

One glance at the kink meme will tell you what ME is REALLY all about :o

But in all seriousness, there's a reason for the LIs being a powerful emotional link for the player, and a great tool for the writers.  Without that emotional link, it's like an action flick--amusing, but ultimately forgettable with no real impact on the player.  David Gaider addressed this in an interview on DA2: companion friendships and romances act as a cipher for the game, allowing the player to form the emotional connections that get them to really care about the game and the world beyond just asskicking.  It can be done with friendships or romances (TBH my favorites are friendship-only), but obviously, the romances inspire more...dramatic devotion :D

Yeah, I suppose that counts. You know, Shepard being the savior of the Galaxy is enough for me, so I try to make him seem like the average joe, if not less so, as much as possible, almost kind of a loser with the ladies (I purposefully attempted romance with Samara.) You know, to keep his ego under wraps. JK But seriously, Shepard is all ba and sh!t, he's got no time for schmecks, he's got a friggen Galaxy to save, my Shepard is above the physical state of mind anyway.

My Mass Effect 1 playthrough doesn't have a romance. I only chose a romance in Mass Effect 2 for the extra dialogue.

PS: being single rules! D:<

Depending on how ME3 goes, I've been toying with the idea of creating a Shepard who stays single through the first and second games, but falls in love (or realizes that she's in love, finally) at the end, right before battling the Reapers. I think it would make sense for a Shepard to turn down romancing a subordinate in the first game, and after being resurrected, not being in the mood for starting a relationship. We'll see, however, if it's appropriate. If handled right, it could be epic.

I've stayed single (a.k.a. "faithful") for all of my ME2 playthroughs. I was resentful, at first, that I couldn't have my chosen romance, but now it feels right and natural that my Shepard would be alone for this part of the game. I doubt I'll try any ME2 romances until after I've finished ME3, there's just no burning desire there.

Yes a majority of my Sheps are single to the end. Most of the romance options either disturb them or they're not interested.

No I never played Mass Effect 1 and 2 without romancing granted its more realistic that they do not romance but I feel you do lose a lot of dialogue towards the end and i am sure you will lose dialogue in ME3 as well because of it

Not in ME 1, but my carry over Shep which I plan on using for ME3 didn't romance anyone in 2. Hoping for some kind of proper reunion with Ash at some point.

My single Shepard is single. Ashley is not an option because he makes no exception in the anti-fraternization regulations for himself. And Liara is not an option because she is recruited post-Virmire for the hilarious dialogue. In ME2 Miranda is not an option, because he sides with Jack, and Jack is not an option because of the "quickie". And Tali is not an option because she is Tali. And Kelly is not an option becasue she dies. And Morinth is not an option because he is not idiot. And Kasumi is not an option because she prefers the Priiize. And Gianna Parasini is not an option because BioWare sucks.

yeah. In ME1 you just stare into your screen until you get to illos.

In ME2, you do the same.

I'm not sure this is true; as far as I recall, it just skips directly to the final scenes.

In ME1, yes. In ME2 Miranda comes and says something cheerleading, and you can respond with one of three little inconsequential personality defining phrases. Then she salutes you and leaves and you're taken to the Illusive Man's office.

Plus Mordin instead of giving his immodest advices suggests that you have a crush on him and tells you to bugger off!

Is it ironic that when I first saw that convo, I said out loud "I love you, Mordin!"?

I have. At first I couldn't figure out how not to romance Ashley without being a douche. That made me romance her almost every single time. But once ME3 is out, my first character I'm gonna import, my 'canon' one, has no relationship with anyone.

Yes Mordin's convo if you don't romance anyone is hilarious. Especially if you pick the "Other species hit on you?" - line lol

I haven't romanced anyone.

Ashley is ugly and she's not my type.
Liara is an alien and I don't like the idea of romancing an alien.
Same goes for Tali.
Miranda is pretty good-looking but her personality is not my type.
Jack is ugly, mentally unstable and not my type either.
Kelly is ugly and not my type.

They need to make a female human with blonde hair, I like blond girls.

Does anybody here (or rather has anybody here) made a playthrough of ME 1 and/or ME 2 without romancing/sexing a single person? I have, I do it quite frequently. IMO it is more realistic, as you would think Shepard's first and foremost concern is the fate of the Galaxy and its people...

Obviously he has more important things to do than romance.

After the suicide mission though Kelly strips for you if you did not reomance nobody.

She only does that if you flirt with her enough.

???/ I have tried everything including the middle options and she always sends me the email.... wth do I have to do flick her off or something because short of choosing the lower options she still sends the email

It's tied more to two flags in particular: 'keep it professional' (which cuts out about half of her dialogue), and the dinner date. (And, of course, her surviving. So three flags?)

Have one not romanced femShep in ME1 (for two romances in ME2 and one single save. Now finding out what is where is problematic), one strict and professional maleShep, one loser maleShep (romanced Ashley - she died, romanced Tali - she died...) and one downloaded ME1 save from masseffectsaves who became full renegade femShep in ME2 (obviously no romances... maybe with exception for TIM)

There should be an achievement for this. Call it: CLEAN SHEETS.

0 GS, though, because you didn't score.

I haven't romanced anyone with my MainShep, a.) because it kind of goes against her personality type (she doesn't like the idea of complicating things) and b.) because the one person she would be interested in is non-romanceable. Ah well.

I dunno. None of the romances really interested me, that's all.

Though I was tempted by Kaidan for a moment there. >.>

I am a male. On Mass Effect 2, I have a single female shep playthrough, in which she has no romance. I felt really odd romancing a character, with a female. So after I lost all my game saves and had to replay Mass Effect 2 for every male romance, I knowingly left my female Shep single, just like Mass Effect 1.
