Okay, so I've played Awakenings up through all the maps and just before starting the sequence to the final battle.

One minor complaint I need to express is that I have found the combat to be a bit weak, even using the nightmare setting. For most of the game, my party has been under no serious threat from anything. Any one of us playing solo could have defeated 99% of the encounters in this game without breaking a sweat or using a potion.

BUT, I finally got a worthwhile, challenging combat tonight - I fought the Blackmarsh Queen. Yay! I beat her. It took all my tactical management skills. I wish more combats in Awakenings were of this level of challenge. The Baroness before her had also been at least a halfway decent challenge.

As a catlover, I really appreciate Anders and Sir Pounce-a-lot. Finally, a game that rewards catlovers as much as doglovers! I think the last couple of acknowledgements I got in games were from the black panther in NWN and the cat pet in Fate.

And then, the interactions between Oghren and Justice! OMG, I laughed so hard I nearly split my sides!

The character interactions and stories in Awakenings may require more work to get to than Origins did - you can't just go "make the rounds at camp", and you have to rely a bit more on those trigger points that make interparty dialogue happen, but some of it is so worth it!

"Buttering the Southern Pony." OMG that is so hilarious! I'm still ROFLLMAO! I think that little expression is about to enter my private scatalogical lexicon permanently!

I love the new character build progressions and spells - I just wish you could carry them backward into Origins (I know about and am using the mod) with less than a 20th level open requirement, at least for the first couple of tiers.

I am finding the story to be pretty good, now that I'm thoroughly into it. It isn't perfect, but I find that I'm getting my money's worth quite well for a $30 computer game. The whole idea of the Mother, the Architect, and the ramifications of experimenting to grant intelligence to altered species (humans, elves, and dwarves to darkspawn, originally intended to be near-mindless drones) in order to create a superarmy, strikes me as pretty good sci-fi writing. Not original or anything, but pretty good for a game.

So, let's all butter the southern pony and give it out for Awakenings!

Not to mention Ser Pounce's remarkable special ability.
