Got a few freinds that's interested in redoing baldurs gate 2 with the DA:O toolset. Thou they havent got the game
Is the toolset freeware, or do you need to own the game to be able to use the toolset?

(I have the game, but can't get them to buy it) :wizard:

No, you need the game's files to be able to run the toolset.

Besides, having the toolset without the game is kind-of pointless, as you cannot test anything you create.

Of course someone without the game/toolset could still do useful work to contribute to a mod, like making custom music, custom models and so on - basically anything that is created with external tools, and then someone with the toolset could integrate the work into the project.

But then again...what's the fun in creating something if you cannot observe how it turns out in the end?

Well, we could test it on my pc, since i have the game. Would be nice if they made the toolset freeware so that my mates could help me with redoing BG2. :wizard:

From what i understand you can download the toolset without the game but if you do it is VERY limited on what you can do with it. Like the person above said... Probably custom music / models and so on....

I am not too sure how much if anything you could do with the toolset without the game. Any type of level editing will require the games models in order to be able to build your levels. And since they do not have the game they will not be able to do that.

There are also core scripts that the Toolset needs to do scripting that are only included with the game.

At the end of the day there is a reasion they made the toolset require you to have the game to download it. It's for the most part a pile of nothing without the ability to export or anything else without the game installed.

Not to mention they won't be able to access the Toolset wiki without being logged into an account with the game registered to it.
