I have had a few troubles with DA lately. One being the stupid unauthorized DLC which I have yet to fix (because nothing has worked yet, even after over 5 hours of searching and testing) and now this weird loop which prevents me from even playing the game. When I launch DA from anywhere, it starts off normally but once I press play from the launch menu, the process restarts. It goes from clicking the icon --> ask if allowed (yes I gave it admin rights) --> launch menu --> ask if allowed --> launch menu --> ect.
IN SHORT, HELP!

I was just coming on to post this exact same issue. I'm running this on Windows 7 x64 via Steam. I originally had an issue where it would crash with an error to check with Microsoft for possible solutions (which found nothing, of course), but updating my Nvidia drivers corrected that.

I just bought the game and have not been able to get into it yet. Exact same symptoms as above. Click on the link to start up, get splash screen, click Play, see my keys, back to splash screen, start the process over. This is with Run As Administrator. If I turn off Run As Administratory, it just closes when I hit Play.

I've tried running in compat mode for WinXP and for Vista, no help. Also tried running directly from DAOrigins.exe, but that just loops back to the splash screen. Tried verifying the cached files, but no errors found.

Get no error messages, just the looping, or the shutting down, depending on if Run As Admin is enabled. Any help would be appreciated.

Please disregard my post. I never rebooted after the initial install of the game. After rebooting, the game loaded correctly, and I have been able to redeem and download my downloadable content.

Major brain fart on my part.

Well I have restarted my computer 3 times and shut it off for the night twice since I downloaded DA. I don't think what you did will help this.

I have contacted ea support again and have been told that someone will actually take a look at this problem. I guess some computer information might help.

Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium with Service Pack 1
Meets recommended system requirements.

Windows, DirectX, and my Video Card drivers are all up to date.

And when I say infinite loop, I mean whenever I press play it goes away for a second then comes back.

Edit:  Really? You need more than this?

When you said you would provide "some computer information, that was as far as you got.  Only "some" of it.

This is the hardware part:

Basic Hardware Specification Chart (Empty so far)

Processor Manufacturer: AMD / Intel
Processor Name / Type: Athlon X2 / Pentium D / C2D / dual core / quad, etc.
Processor Speed:  ?.? Ghz
Operating System / Service Pack: WindowsXP with SP #?, Win7, Vista ?
System RAM: ? ? GBs (MBs, if less than 1024 ? )
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: ATI / Nvidia (only those two are supported, PERIOD, so please answer which of them you have)
Video Card Model: (examples) Radeon HD 5670 / Geforce GT 240
Video Card Driver Version: Catalyst ?.? / Nforce ??.??
. . (please use the numbers, and dates, *not* the word "latest")
Video Card onboard RAM: ? ? ? MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer:
Sound Card Model:

(And this is only for the raw hardware & driver variations.  Potential software conflicts are far more likely to be game play problems, and developers cannot test for all possible program loads.)

P. S.  Please use every day business style paragraph breaks, punctuation, and spelling.

And this is the Symptoms part:

3.  Problem Details (Chis Priestly)

[quote]  a.  When it comes to problem details, think
about the five basic questions: Who? What? When? Where?  Why? Okay, so
“Who?” doesn’t really apply here, but the others do.

  b.  What?  What is the nature of the problem that you’re seeing?

  c.  When?  When does the problem occur? Every time you engage in a particular action or only after so many hours of play?

  d.  Where? Where does the problem occur? Is the problem localized to a particular planet or does it occur everywhere?

  e.  Why? As much as possible, can you isolate the problem to a specific set of steps?[/unquote]

Thank you for your quick and to the point response.

Basic Hardware Specification:

Processor Manufacturer: Intel
Processor Name / Type: i7-Q720M  / Quad Core
Processor Speed: 1.6 GHz
Operating System / Service Pack: Windows 7 (64-bit) Service Pack 1
System RAM: 4 GB
Video (GPU) Manufacturer: Nvidia
Video Card Model: GeForce GT 330M
Video Card Driver Version: 266.58     2011.01.18
Video Card onboard RAM: 1024 MBs
Sound Card Manufacturer: Conexant
Sound Card Model:Integrated

Problem Details:

Double click on shortcut to launch game.
   - The executables are set to run as an administrator, this would include:
      DAOriginsLauncher.exe
      DAOrigins.exe
      DAOriginsConfig.exe
      DAUpdater.exe
      DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

The Splash screen appears with all the buttons and the annoying banner at the bottom.
Click on play and the program freezes for a second before dissapearing for three seconds.
The splash screen reappears, thus I cannot launch the game, but am stuck in a loop with the launcher.

This problem happened on my old computer, but was dissmissed since it did not meet system requirments.
Now on a computer that should be able to (It has played the Mass Effect Series) the problem persists.

Followed Recomendations:

In reguard to program conflicts, I have done the reccomended procedure of disabling all programs and processes, resulting in the remaining processes as follows (besides taskmgr.exe):
     explorer.exe
     winlogon.exe
     csrss.exe
     nvvsvx.exe
     NvXDSync.exe

In addition I have also deleted everything in the Temp folder.
And much to the amusement of tech support, reinstalled five times.
For added kicks I did a boot-time virus scan and defraged.
The only thing not attempted was a windows reinstallation. That is not going to happen.

Sorry you're having troubles. I am curious, if you go to Program Files (x86) > Dragon Age > bin_ship and click on daorigins.exe ... does the game start then?

Okay... it is possible your issue is related to how Steam installs the game or the relationship between the Steam software and the games it installs.... This thread may be of interest you...

You have solved my problem, turns out during installation registry keys were added to the executables at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\AppCompatFlags\\Layers

Removing all keys related to:
DAOriginsLauncher.exe
DAOrigins.exe
DAOriginsConfig.exe
DAUpdater.exe
DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

Solved the launch issue. Finally I can play this game.

Not too sure about that particular laptop's specs but it should at least run the game. Directx needs updating maybe?

Edit: Nevermind you fixed it anyways.

Required DirectX Files are installed when the game is.
And this laptop plays Mass Effect (1 and 2) without issue.
(Paradoxical when a laptop is better then a desktop)
Otherwise thank you all for your help.

One final, pedantic note, if you'll indulge... please keep in mind that the Mass Effect series uses a completely different game engine than DAO.  So comparisons in performance are difficult to make.

Nonetheless, I am glad that old thread helped.   It was nice of those posters to followup and explain in detail.

I was not aware, usually developers stick with the same engine. I hope this thread becomes useful to other people because I've had quite a time getting this to work.
