My simple question to you guys and girls is this. In ME2 you have a human, Miranda who is a possible LI but yet some opt for the "aliens" or non-humans, Samara, Tali, Aria etc. But why? Why get it on with an alien when you got Miranda around? Just curious on some reasons IMO i think it's weird, creepy and disturbing but hey thats just me. So you people that have romanced the non-humans, why did you do it? Hell, i might do it if i find a good reason.

I like to romance aliens because it is a sci-fi videogame and it is fun bit of escapism.

And I find the humans look weird (excluding Jack and Kaidan. Who don't suffer from the uncanny valley)

Romancing aliens is anti-scientific and therefore withdraws from the sci-fi component of the game, replacing it with fantasy.

In ME1 only one alien race was romanceable and the authors went to lenghts to add some sci-fi-ish plausibility to it. But in ME2 it's just blatant fanservice.

And then there is also this (18+).

Well, since I mainly play FemSheps(I'm actually playing my first ManShep now) I can't romance Miranda anyways. I romance the aliens because I like them better as squadmates(I just don't really like the human squadmates) and it's a sci-fi game so why not? Even though they are aliens they still are very human in someways. I don't have any problems with it.

Seriously?

Well, if Miranda were an option for my female Shepard, I would definitely have a character that pursues her. As it stands, I don't like playing male Shepard, so Miranda remains my female Shepards' second.

But even then, my canon Shepard would still romance Garrus. Why? Personality counts for A LOT. I don't see the big deal. You don't have to like it, but people like the alien characters for their personalities, actions, and yes, even their looks. It's a matter of taste.

It's not really any different than romancing an elf or a dwarf in Dragon Age. It's a sci-fi setting and you see lots of examples of inter-species relationships between NPCs in the game so it's not so farfetched of a concept for Shepard to do the same.

I always romance the romance interest I like most, regardless of species/race and I would do that in real-life as well (well, I am married now but I mean if I was younger and still available). I never understood why people only romance people because of what they look like or what their background is. There's much more to a relationship than skin colour or the number of tentacles on one's head.

Answer #1: Because I only play FemSheps, so Miranda is right out (and even if she was a bisexual option, I probably wouldn't since most of my FemSheps are straight and if they WERE interested in other women, they'd be all over Ashley.)

Answer #2: Because Brandon Keener has a sexy voice.

It is the age old debate of whether or not personality trumps appearance, and for many. Such is the case be it real world or in video games. Tali's idol admiration of Shepard and her partial "girl next door" demeanor are thought more attractive than chiseling through the colder and more complex Miranda. Personally, I find Miranda's personality more attractive once you see her vulnerable side but that is just me.

For Femshep (who I play a majority of the time) it is hardly different. Garrus is a compelling character, who stood by your side throughout two games, is openly ready to die for you however he is emotionally jaded. Live fast, die hard. Some fancy offering him a sense of tranquility, something he has never had the luxury of. That there is something, someone worth not throwing away your life on reckless mercenary undertakings. And above all, he is worth experience it.

I do not feel the need to elaborate on every alien. Suffice it to say, you should appreciate the fundamentals behind a character's personality. Of course, the fact Jacob's romance scene is horrendously written is not about to win him many favors. :P

And leggy is correct. Brandon Keener has a sexy voice.

Mostly this ^_^

More seriously?  Because as far as I'm concerned, species is a secondary concern to the characters complementing each other.

Also, strict realism is overrated.  If you wanna get down to the nitty gritty details including bladder management, play the Sims.  Mass Effect is a heroic space opera, and in the grand tradition of heroic space operas like Star Wars and Star Trek, that means alien sexytiemz.

Well for me it's because I don't like Miranda and nor would I want to romance her.
Although I didn't romance an alien either, I went with Jack.

My two femsheps romance aliens, my original Shep had no romance in the first game, in the second, she romanced Thane, my canon femShep romanced Kaidan and then Garrus, my one and only manShep, who I've only ever played ME2 with, romanced everyone he could get his hands on, hell if Chakwas and Edi were options he would have done them too.

I suspended belief at the door when I started playing these games, romancing aliens may be fantasy, but gee they are hell fun.

I will be the first one in line to date an alien, male or female. And if you dispute me on this I will fight you to the death. haha

Anyways, my Sheps romance aliens. My male Shep romances Liara and my Fem Shep romances Garrus. I don't see a problem with it, that far into the future it's probably common fare.

I was romancing Jacob in ME2 until Thane came along, at which point I dumped Jacob like he was on fire. lol

Don't get me wrong--I thought Jacob was physically attractive, well-acted, and (contrary to popular understanding) had a pretty good romance for the first part of the game.

But alien romance? MUCH more interesting than another human.

I can romance a human in reality. I don't need a game for that. Additionally, I like the way the aliens are written/look better than I like Miranda.

I can't give you an honest no bs assessment as to why I wanted to get into Liara/Tali's pants more so than Ashley/Miranda/Jack. Well, I did romance Ashley before but never Miranda or Jack (just didn't like those characters all too much).

Perhaps, as someone else pointed out earlier, for the sake of escaping reality in a way, doing something that isn't even reasonably feasible in real life in a video game. Idk.

Besides, interspecies relationships are clearly prevalent in the games, so why should a human restrict itself only to other humans?

I know that the first time I played ME1, I chose Liara specifically because she wasn't human/wasn't the "default" human male option.

Make of that whatever you want.

a) I can't play a male Shepard to save my life.
B) If I could, I probably wouldn't go for Miranda.

As it is, she was okay, but the permanent wedgie and shelf bra were offputting to me, at least. Granted, I'm female and hetero so they weren't designed with me in mind.

1. Personality. Aliens in ME - at least romanceable ones - are hardly alien when it comes to their beliefs, principles, backgrounds, culture etc, so an alien LI may fit your Shepard better than a Human LI.

2. Exoticism.

As for me personally, I'm also into xenophilia.

Miranda? Why romance Miranda when you can romance Jack?

Well, my FemShep went for Liara, but I guess that's besides the point in this MaleShep-oriented discussion.

Also I enjoyed the alien romances more than the human romances.
