a) I can't play a male Shepard to save my life.
B) If I could, I probably wouldn't go for Miranda.

As it is, she was okay, but the permanent wedgie and shelf bra were offputting to me, at least. Granted, I'm female and hetero so they weren't designed with me in mind.

Well I'm male and hetero, and it bugs me LOL. Her character is really well written, but they dropped the ball on the camera angles and outfit. It was like BioWare was pimping her out  giving a peak of the "goods". They do the same with Jacob too.

As for alien romances? It is a Sci-FI world where inter species relationships aren't that uncommon, and even Asari can reproduce with other species. Frankly I care more about personality than looks, but it is even more on a video game, because I don't really care that X set of pixels is slightly nicer than Y set of pixels. I find Liara's personality the most pleasing(even with the drawn on eyebrows, blue skin, and the whole back of her head deal). Although I would say Miranda is a very close second. I don't play much FemShep, but I liked Garrus and Kaidan the most for the male love interests.

On my canon playthrough in ME2 my Shep romanced Miranda, but in ME1 he had romanced Liara.

I may even stick with Liara post LotSB.

Besides the fact that it is what Captain Kirk would do, the Asari are sufficiently human in appearance that they are still attractive or even hot. The Asari are also female, with presumably all the same parts that human females have. Shepard sleeping with a Turian, Krogan, or Salarian? I'd fully agree that it is a little disgusting since they are not physically attractive by human standards, but the Asari basically look like blue-skinned humans. Plus both Liara & Samara were great characters.

Pft, speak for yourself. I think turians are quite attractive and last I checked I was a human.

The asari are basically like the twi'leks of the ME universe so of course they are well-liked.

I've always found Liara to be the most "likeable" character that you can LI, and quite frankly one of the most "likeable" characters period. something about her innocence and personality please me alot more than getting shot down over working with Cerberus or investigating Miranda's @ss(as FAYAYAYYYYYN as it is.) plus its a sci-fi game set up with atleast a dozen other alien races..why not go outside the box?

My simple question to you guys and girls is this. In ME2 you have a human, Miranda who is a possible LI but yet some opt for the "aliens" or non-humans, Samara, Tali, Aria etc. But why? Why get it on with an alien when you got Miranda around? Just curious on some reasons IMO i think it's weird, creepy and disturbing but hey thats just me. So you people that have romanced the non-humans, why did you do it? Hell, i might do it if i find a good reason.

"Freedom is the right of all sentient beings."

It's a sci-fi game, so honestly opinons like "You can't romance aliens, it's unnatura!" are pretty childish. Say me ONE space opera with aliens that doesn't at least foreshadows the possibility of interspecies relationships...
Said that, the reason is simply that everyone's got his favourite character... Miranda's a strong woman and she's pretty hot, no one deny this, but simply many of us (in fact MOST of us) find more intersting the story with Liara or with Tali because they are developed along the double of the time of Miranda's, and they don't need to be sexually exasperated putting continuosly their curves in the cam. I don't hate Miranda, and neither Jack or Ash Williams, but I don't see any logic in "she's the hottest human being in the game... she MUST be romanced!". Aside everything else, they're all fictional characters, so they're all at the same level... anyone here should be able to pick his/her favourite without being blamed or treated like a silly creepy fanboy for his choice.

I can romance a human in reality. I don't need a game for that. Additionally, I like the way the aliens are written/look better than I like Miranda.

This^^

I'm already happily married in real life to a wonderful human woman (who I wouldn't exchange for anything). However in this sci-fi, (this property in particular) I'm presented with a unique opportunity to be able to do something that I could never do in real life...date a blue (or green) alien hottie. How could I not jump on that...?

Personally I find the aliens cultures, societies, sociologies, viewpoints, and all their other nuances very interesting and intriguing. I like it because it's different. I get to use my imagination. If I want to see a human romance I can pick up just about any other game, watch any other movie, or basically engage in any other form of media; be it interactive or not and see human/human romance...human/alien on the other hand is (for all practical intents and purposes) something relatively new and unexplored.

I really like how the movie by James Cameron "Avatar" portrayed a human/alien romance...I like to imagine that one happening within the Mass Effect universe would also likewise be something worthwhile and engageing...

I rarely have my male-Shep date anybody other than Liara or Tali. Liara fits into the nerdy bookworm stereotype...but way more developed and interesting...and Tali is the shy tech-genius girl...what more could you ask for?

Here's hoping that Rana, Shiala, or maybe even an attractive female drell becomes romanceable in ME3.

Which makes them even more annoying. While I absolutely adore Aria and easily find her the most attractive female character in ME (followed closely by Jack), I'd prefer an alien that looks more like an alien and less like a human with a skin condition.

Anyway, I'm already with the greatest human guy in real life. All other human males, pixelated or not, pale in comparison. Like other people have said, I have little reason to bother with them when there's something more exotic available (although I can't seem to get enough of Alistair's romance, but his is just so well done).

Edit: And I don't like Miranda. Being a mostly hetero female (I say mostly, since I'd romance the hell out of Aria and Scarlett Johansson if I got the chance) and someone who exclusively plays FemSheps, Miranda isn't an option anyway.

Personality does count for quite a lot. Of course, the asari aren't all that alien, but I'd take an opportunity to romance Tali if it came up for my Femshep.

Eh, I don't adore and romance Liara because she's an asari. I do so because I love her personality and character, and think the Shepard/Liara love story is absolutely beautiful. The fact that she is an alien has never crossed my mind, to be perfectly honest.

I'd love her just as much if she were human.

Fan service or not, I romance Garrus in every playthrough and it's not because he's a turian, it's the because of his personality (and the voice).

I hate this debate.

Agreed. As I said before it's really silly to tread only the aliens' fans as fanboy... I see the same hardcore affection in the romancers of human LIs. Even more, in fact... I don't remember a Tali or Garrus fan who posted this kind of threads, do you?

This is the way I rationalize it: my Shepard is not a normal person. Why on earth would she have a normal relationship? To me, the aliens just bring up more interesting plot potential. [Not that the human love interests are invalidated, I pretty much love all the romances.]

I don't personally look at a character and wonder whether or not I find them attractive. I will, however, look for character archetypes that I do find attractive. In the case of Garrus- I like strong, dependable men. I don't really care that he looks like a giant cat-raptor-bird. It's a game. I'm not the one that has to worry about how it works.

This.

My favorite romance in the series happens to be an alien's romance, and it's Thane's. And Thane was written specifically for romance purposes, in case you didn't know.

Though her being an asari does have the (possibly small) advantage of being able to have natural children with Femshep.

No but don't you know, we alien lovers are the ones who bought the game specifically so we could get some alien booty. We also hate Cerberus and TIM because they hate aliens and can't accept our alien lovers, and who cares about the Reapers, as long as I get a DLC with my alien LI I'm happy <_<

Because of this.

That would be the first question of many people if we found aliens that look like Asari or Quarian :P

Weirdly enough, humans are always my least favorite race in almost every medium of fiction that has different races. Because humans are boring.

The funny thing is that I didn't know anything of the plot or of the romances of ME2 when I bought the
game, and in my first playtrhought I wanted romance Miranda... so [sarcasm] I don't know if I should be more ashamed to prefer a quarian girl or to have betrahied my initial intention of romancing a such a much
more hot and wonderful character [/sarcasm].

Being serious... I'm a user of a lot of forums about movies, comics and fictional
character in general, but this is the first one where so many people finds so funny s**t in the head of eachother 'cause they don't like the same character. I romance Tali, and I think that Garrus, Mordin and Wrex are the best male characters of the game. Deal with it. If you wanna discuss seriously and in a civilized way of the ME's universe, fine, I'm in. If you wanna treat me like a sci-fi equivalent of a Twilight's fan, your call... I won't care about it. We can speak hours about why anyone likes a character more than another, or simply we can respect every opinion out there and being a real community. I'm for the second option... I have to be blamed for this too?

lol I still believe that they should provide at least a human female LI for us males who play as a Female Shepard! I can't stand the male Shepard voice overs even if my life depended on it!

Well personally, I don't really see it as much different than romancing someone of a different ethnic background, lifestyle or set of social/physical skills that differ from your own.

Many real life couples make it work as such, so its not unlikley that a human and an alien could fall in love, even if the divide is potentially greater.

Perhaps because I'm less of a Furry than other people, I don't go for the alien romances as much.

I do not find squid-heads, lizardmen, jellyfish, chicken legs, dinosaur-men, or bird/cat men especially sexually exciting or tempting.
